Straight from a dusty warehouse and onto her bed, too, judging by the creases. She'll never wash any of this.

"BOT OIY'M SYO VARRY JARMAPHYOBIC, JANUINELY!"

This bedding costs £250. Good lord.

I really can't imagine that the majority of her subscribers/ fan base could afford to spend £250 on a duvet. I'd imagine most are probably no older than 20 ish (at most) . So I don't know why the company would send her stuff.

She really has no idea of reality. When I was younger ( studying full time at college) and on about £5.00 p/h, that could have taken me close to 3 weeks to earn 😂. Today it would take me over half a week of work, to be able to get the duvet.

Horrifying. Those poor souls are going to be subjected to Ruby's idea of food?
I have to say this is my biggest worry. I’d imagine Ruby’s gone with mama so I can just imagine the scene. After a long day of writing, the attendees gather to discuss their work before dinner. First, there’s Ma Granger giving a reading of her Vogon-like poetry, followed by Ruby doing a hour-long dramatic prose reading complete with waggling eyebrows and much finger-pointing. Anticipation builds as everyone looks forward to dinner, and then Ruby appears with a tray full of small dishes. Nervously, the would-be authors look at the odd substance filling the bowls - ‘it’s FROYZEN PEAS IN YOGURT!’ announces Ruby proudly. Behind her, the staff look uncomfortable. They’d tried suggesting that this might not be appreciated but had been shouted down by Ruby, and anyway, they’ve got a few bottles of retsina stashed away for a party later so they don’t care. Dinner continues silently, apart from the odd tinkle as people try slip the frozen peas onto the floor without being noticed.

It makes me kinda sick to see how unstructured her "study" process is. Spending hours and hours (or at least so she wants us to believe) with copying out stuff barely related to her subject from one place to another. I hate how studytubers never make a point about being structured and prioritizing things, but instead just show fake videos of themselfes "learning" for hours and hours. Love how she cant even be bothered to read her primary sources for her thesis.
Exactly, she’s working hard not smart. She needs to go to the actual primary texts first to become familiar with them, but I suspect Ruby reads plot summaries and ASSAYS about them instead. She has the opportunity and time to sit and read all the texts in advance (if she has a reading list), she could really use the time to familiarise herself, she’s not exactly read much from that period yet, as far as we know. I’m still amazed she hasn’t gone for a course that focusses on Victorian Literature.

Good for ruby for getting out of the bedroom but I do wonder why she is actually going to a retreat other than trying to look like a serious writer. Isn't her home basically one? Big house in the middle of the countryside where she can take a lot of walks, the only difference is that her house is messy and that she does her own cooking instead of the meals provided.

I don't see her going to the courses or really interacting with the other writers as she wouldn't want to be with anyone who is better than her.

Also she's already had a holiday recently to apparently help with her writer's block and she's on a retreat. It almost feels like a sign that the writing isn't for her if she's having to take holidays to help her.

Also has anyone seen the tiktok about spending her birthday alone? She pulls a cupcake out of a green suitcase and puts a candle in it and is trying to look reflective and admire the countryside but she looks like a lost child who got abandoned on a picnic.
I wonder if these constant trips are tick boxes for her to say she had a gap yeah and has done travel? Then she can go to Oxford and talk about how she went to write in Venice, how she walked where Emily Dickinson once trod, etc.

I feel guilty if I spend more than 25 quid on bedding from Asda  250 quid bedding …wow.

A bundle of bedding from this brand costs £300.... Now looking at the brand, if you can afford this then fair enough - the brand claims to be carbon neutral, and the materials are sustainably sourced and you'd hope very high quality (though I'm still unconvinced it can *possibly* be worth 300 quid lol). If you can afford to buy stuff which is more ethically made than the cheap stuff most of us will be buying then I'm not going to criticise that too much. However what is the marketing team for the brand thinking, Ruby's core viewership is made up of people who have the resources to be buying this stuff.

I do wonder if I'm in the wrong career path if ruby is getting all these expensive things gifted to her. I wouldn't have associated bed sheets with Ruby unless someone from the company was begging her to change her sheets.

Perhaps I need to make shoddy videos of me as a masters student and pretend to read books to make money.

Someone mentioned earlier in the thread that Ruby's research interests, and her plans for her Master's thesis, look more like history topics than literature degree topics.
If Ruby wanted to look at girlhood in early modern England and fit the topic to her degree, she should look at literature and poetry, even pamphlets, that discuss girls' education. If she doesn't, it's a very badly-executed history thesis, citing only scholarly papers and no use of actual historical sources from an archive, which would be required for a master's in history.

I'm pmsl that she shelled out £500 to stay in a glorified hostel and write Erimentha Part II. The fact she's going to be subjecting these poor unknowing victims to her cooking as well... someone keep the Department of Health on standby.

Why is she even doing anything for her MA dissertation now? They're generally done during the spring/summer, and your proposal will likely only be due in December/January. I only really started thinking seriously about mine in about July and basically did the entire thing in August lmao

But did she actually buy it herself or was it gifted / a hidden ad?

The post is marked as gifted. That's why I can't understand the brand's thinking - have they not done any research into Ruby's demographic? Presumably those sorts of gifts are done with the hope that it will result in increased sales? Surely Ruby doesn't have that many followers who are likely to be able to splurge £300 on bedding?

I mean lets be real, for companies marketing via influencers has basically no costs. They just hand out two of their beddings which together probably have a production cost of 200 £ max. and thats nearly all the cost for them. If only one of Rubys followers feels inspired to buy the bedding, they`re in the plus. I doubt they do much research before just handing out a few products to influencers who have a kinda fitting aesthetic.

I’d imagine she’s got it off the back of the Son de Flor sponsorship she had recently. Let’s face it, Ruby’s audience is also unlikely to be dropping £140 on a skirt or £200 on a dress either, but it’s all the same aesthetic.

Seriously have to wonder where Ruby went on her ‘writers retreat’ it’s another one of those trips she went on because she has writers block.

You hit the nail on the head with Vogon-like poetry, that is so accurate XD

I have to say, I think we jumped the gun thinking it was Greece. From what she’s posted on Instagram, that doesn’t look like Greece at all. I would say the north of England, possibly even Scotland judging by trees - if it’s ‘now’ then it’s somewhere the leaves haven’t come out yet, going off her pics.

Arvon has houses in Yorkshire, Devon and Shropshire. Tbf they do look very pretty, but it's funny that Ruby's paying money to stay in a cottage when she literally owns a cottage.

ETA: I know a bit about this because my friend did a writing course there, years ago. They have (or used to have) a national poetry competition for teens and the winners all did the writing course. Theirs had tutors though.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was the North Devon location. She's already somewhat familiar from family holidays
