I do wonder if she applied for any backup unis.

Extremely doubtful.

She has no real interest in academia or actually learning anything. The only reason she wants to do a Masters is for the extra shot at getting into Oxford to try to prove everyone wrong that she always belonged there. Anywhere else she'd just see as a 2nd place failure so there'd be no point in it for her.

I think when Covid struck. She has always fairly insufferable but some of that could be put down to age. Whwn she went to uni, I noticed a massive change and it seemed like she was growing up and thriving. Unfortunately when she was sent home in lockdown, she regressed and it’s been a downwards spiral ever since. I’ve always had a soft spot for Ruby despite her various moronic and downright immoral choices, but recently I’ve stopped watching aside from this thread bc she annoys me too much.

Personally I still think she has been accepted and is working up to doing a massive reveal.

Finding contentment in the simple things is hardly an original thought. It's so saccharine and obvious. I think it's, in part, this lack of originality which will make her a poor Masters candidate.

I don't think that she would be able to keep anything a secret, especially when it is Oxford. She has to show off every half-arsed thing she does for praise and this would be the same about Oxford. She is being rather quiet about the masters so I am wondering what is actually going on behind the scenes. I don't see her applying for a master's in any other university as she is too stubborn to consider anything else.

Adding here that I think Ruby's seemingly rudderless and childish existence was perhaps an inevitability. Her whole persona was built on being a child prodigy, early academic success and studying. There seemed to be very little balance in her life. I think her parents must take a significant level of responsibility with regard to this. My gran used to say that " all work and no play make Jack a dull boy". Ruby is the proverbial proof of this particular pudding - me thinks.

Ruby was uncharacteristically quiet about applying for a Masters, probably because she didn’t want to have to share a possible failure online. I have a feeling that she didn’t get in and is just going to pretend it never happened, because I honestly don’t think she would be able to hide it if she had got in - let’s face it, assuming an October start she’d get over six months of ‘preparing for my Oxford Masters’ content and it’d absolutely give some structure to her rather aimless days. The other possibility is that she has got in and has realised this ‘shiny thing’ isn’t actually making her very happy, and she’s deciding whether to accept the place at all.

I'm in two minds about it. I think that she has either got in but is keeping it a secret. I think that she applied for a smaller college and had more of a chance of getting in there, and keeping things on the down low until things have been sorted out like her classes, her accommodation etc. Or she is doing what she normally does, keeping things vague until people forget about them, like when she has been in hot water before like the memorial the cottage, her book agent, ect, hoping that people forget about them, as she has been rather vague about applying for the masters.

God knows. Online undergrad degree? Part-time something whilst still trying to be a WROITER? Reinventing herself as a slow-living blogger? Playing at being Beth March for real? She is presumably earning from YT and ma and pa seem happy for her to Miss Havisham her way through her 20s so probably more of the same, I suspect.

I think a distance learning Masters would be right up her street. It's self led, which she seems to enjoy, and she could stay at home and make study with me content.

Why not tbh? I agree that she should go back to uni or get a job to improve her social skills, but realistically most youtubers/influencers sit on their a all day filming themselves and doing duck all so idk why she would be any different.
Like really, what do most youtubers do? Film themselves going shopping or doing hauls and throw in a couple of holiday vlogs a year. It’s not exactly a riveting lifestyle. She makes enough money and will most likely just continue doing what she’s doing until she stops making money from it

I think she’ll try to get a traditional job in publishing, but she’ll face lots of rejection applying and then struggle with it once she has it

Also I want to know the full story with why she left her “teaching” job (if she definitely has!)
