‘I founded my company when I was 17’

No, it’s just crappy influencer merch that your management company created for you lmfao. Let’s not get it twisted 🤣

I’ve just watched the book video. Those poor books get bashed about in her hands and there is so much hand-clawing going on.

What is with her strange obsession with age? “At 2 I took my first steps. At 5 I read my first book. At 10 I rode a bike.” Those kind of milestones get old at about age 12 unless she’s vying for a spot in Forbes 30 under 30 list or something.

I feel like her mum was the type to say “my daughter did the dishes when she was only SIX!!” and Rubes is stuck thinking attaching age to accomplishments makes you better somehow.

I would tell her to grow up but it seems like she doesn’t want to.

re. your last point, I’m sure the underside can be a little bit messy, but it’s definitely not supposed to have huge loops loose all over the place like hers does - she’s just half-assed it, the way she does everything 😂

idk why but I’m raging rn, I’m just so exasperated and borderline triggered by this video, she’s skimmed through a number of books, insists on having heard loads of ppl mispronounce Karamazov, Babel is quintessential dark macadamia, she’s making a handkerchief that has a suspicious green blob already on it and is never ever going to be hemmed, etc. She’s indescribably stupid and lazy in everything she does, and when people try to correct her many mistakes, she just doubles down on it. She could do a minimal amount of research before filming a video, but noooo, she’d rather just blame her mistakes on some random ignoramus she’s once heard give a lecture.
Oh I'm with you. She is infuriating. And no bleeping way did she actually say 'pronounce-iation'. Even the way she says 'Eye-van'. My slavic ancestors are arising in my blood and making it boil. I'm expecting any minute my Baba will call because she will sense something is wrong with me 😆
---
Her accent in this video has a touch of American - she says "liddle" rather than overenunciating her 't' and her 'right?' sounds like it's mimicked from somewhere as well. What's her newest source of a personality, I'm intrigued.
I fully noticed it too, some new accent. Even when she said Ivan as 'Eye-van', it was the 'van' part I noticed sounding kinda American. Maybe she has been listening to some american audiobook version lol.

I love how her latest TikTok is just shameless lie after shameless lie.
I feel that since we've just had the Oscar's, we should have had the "Ruby's", a chance to honour the best of Ruby's lies in one year. Different categories, of course...a Ruby for the most shameless lie, a Ruby for the most harmful lie, most baffling lie (I nominate "I never wear jeans"...or the "I handwash everything") etc...

How does her fake accent keep getting worse? At this rate, she'll be speaking in nothing but vowel sounds by the end of the year.

Some of the books she pretended to read, according to Ruby's embarrassingly fake Emma Watson accent:

I wish I'd read the version Ruby read
How do you read an entire book about someone and say their NAME wrong every single time...

Also noticed a few cuts where she states the title CUT by x author. As if she hasn't spent 5 hours reading something by them...she can't even recall the name of the author off the top of her head.

If this is her attempt at proving she really does read and IS A BOOKWARM, she's doing a terrible job. At this point she's just exposing herself and proving our point.

"Characters are complex!". "You can play with language!". The depth of analysis is astonishing.

She's added chapter markers to the video and almost every one of them is in the wrong place. Each one starts some time after she's started talking about the book in question. How is she this bad at absolutely everything?

Yes! This should definitely be an annual thing.

I know there's no way she read 8 books in one month, especially when one is Babel and the other is Brothers Karamazov (even with her saying she started it in January)

"....precisely and completely accurately...." stop

I have never done embroidery but is the underside supposed to look that messy?
I've been doing embroidery most of my life and the answer is no. The back is meant to be almost as neat as the front. She evidently has no skill in this area. This isn't to say she can't acquire it but honestly like everything she does it's just sloppy. Her presentation of self is sloppy, her cooking & food presentation is sloppy, her bedroom is sloppy, her craftwork is sloppy, her videos are sloppy, her research is sloppy. I think she assumes herself skilled in every perceivable sphere. I think many (most) of us here on this tattle thread would be happy to disabuse her of this false notion.

Sorry Edit:- I've re-looked at her embroidery video. She obviously hasn't 'forgotten how to do a leaf'. My best guess is she doesn't know in the first place. IF she has been taught to do embroidery she was not taught by someone who can embroider themselves. As someone who was taught by an expert (the person who taught me worked for Norman Hartnell) my best guess is she never been taught at all. The fact she didn't split her thread, know how to thread the needle or start her first stitch is highly suggestive she cannot embroider. I wonder if this is yet another 'her truth' moment.

The Hunger Games is my favourite series and has been for years, I don’t think my last fragile thread of sanity will survive if she starts trying to LAKCHAR us about it. I genuinely will scream if I have to hear her share her (very surface level) thoughts on it 😭

She's completely incapable of just focusing properly on one thing in a video, either.

The video was supposed to be a review of books she "read" in a month. Yet she crammed in a terrible display of her lack of embroidery skills and keeps including random irrelevant footage and asides about how she's in a rush and needs to leave and has to pause the video to do other things.

None of this needs to be in the video. This is what editing is for. She has no problem whatsoever cutting out things like this when it would shine a light on her dishonesty (like when she neglects to include footage of her painting on freckles in makeup routines). But she insists on including it here as a desperate attempt to make herself look incredibly busy, productive and multi-talented when she's actually doing very little.

Her insistence on always trying to seem smarter or busier than she is ducks her over every time. Instead of being just a book review video that made her look like a simple-minded dunce who only reads Wikipedia summaries, she also shows off her shocking lack of talent in other areas, makes herself look incredibly disorganised and calls attention to her abysmal editing skills. What a dumbass.

I also cannot get over the irony of her pronouncing "pronunciation" wrong.

I think she believes she is much more capable than anyone so she will immediately master any skill just by doing with no research or practice.

Its the gifted child syndrome but she never grew out of it. She killes her potential of learning and improving because she refuses to acknowledge that she doesnt have any skill im anything. It is uncomfortable to see her fail so obviously with sewing, embroidery, writing, editing, tidying etc.

I haven't watched it yet, but she's been doing this in all her book-related videos and it drives me crazy. She'll announce that she's going for a walk with her parents or there'll be a jarring cut and she'll talk about going for a RON. These interruptions add nothing to the videos and there's zero reason why they need to be included. Ruby believes it makes her seem productive, but it actually comes across as unprofessional. It's not a good look when you can't set aside time to make a straightforward video and can't be bothered to edit out the irrelevant parts.

I think it's interesting that Sixteenth are closing their stationery companies. I wonder if they're struggling financially? They don't seem to represent anyone high profile.

don’t watch it i’m begging you😭 i’ve been re-reading & watching THG recently after having a very deep love for both in my teens and she’s driving me mad talking about it.
“the idea of having teenagers fighting to the death in an enclosed space and that being televised, it’s incredibly messed up” wow really ruby?? i was rooting for them all to hack each other’s limbs off the entire time, i had no idea!

In her last video, she again tries and fails to perform the role of the ~ intellectual ~
1. Who the hell is JOHN Perec? It's Georges, you idiot.
2. The irony of her using "faux pas" wrongly... She says, "the kind of faux pas the society makes us believe are important." Faux pas are when you make a mistake that is *socially* regarded as mistake. What society makes you believe faux pas are important? Is it like a society of Roos insisting that it is Brothers Karamatzof and not Karamazov? Or, does she mean like a society of Shakespeare scholars making the point that Nick Bottom's malapropisms are important to the play? Or, is Ruby, again, using words that are above her reading level wrongly, again?
3. Genuine question: is it normal that she keeps refering to the author of Choose Day with their first name, Mitch? To me, it sounds like they must be buddies if they are on a first name basis? If that's like a totally normal thing to do, would my lit. professor be ok if I referred to Shakespeare as Billy? Or is it too much?
4. "Babel is a book rooted in language." Literally, what book isn't? Ruby name me a book that is not rooted in language right now or I swear to God I will lose it. (jk I have already lost it)

I think @Griftwood mentioned they were probably due to reach the end of a 5 year contract with suppliers, which would line up with them closing them now. I think they just realised that the vanity side grifts weren't worth the hassle of dealing with anymore for how little they sold and the diminishing return on investment year after year.

I'm sure they're doing okay financially in general. They don't attract any major new talent, but they've retained their cash cow influencers like Ali Abdaal, Jack Edwards, Ruby, etc., and their whole setup seems to just be a dodgy cattle farm for young (usually scam-happy) influencers who they can get to churn out as many (usually dishonest or undeclared) ads as they can and accept any sponsorship on offer.

Jack Edwards is one of their bigger influencers and every single video he does is a shameless sponsored ad. Ruby's videos and content are crammed full of undeclared ads that she'll be getting paid for. They take a 10-20% cut of all brand deals and sponsorships alone while doing almost nothing in return, so I'm sure they're in no risk of going under anytime soon.

As opposed to the full-page picture books that mothers show their baby. 🤣
