There was a chair in my house that looked like that after four plus years of constant use plus a dog sleeping on it.

It definitely is NOT ridiculously easy. I just finished law at Exeter, I was expecting to, honestly, fail despite the effort I'd put in, because of mental health issues. I've worked ridiculously hard this year and I got a grade that reflects that hard work. Just because you want to criticise Ruby, doesn't mean you can do it in a way that comments on everyone else on this thread

Congratulations! As I said there are obvious exceptions and everyone is different and as you said yourself you had mental health issues that made it harder for you. I was just sharing the experience I have been told first hand but in no way did I want to be little anyone on here. Getting a degree is an achievement no matter where.

Why is it that in the few excerpts from her novel she's shown so far, there's always someone picking at their nails, or their cuticules, or the irritated skin on their hands? It makes me so uncomfortable. Is she obsessed with this?

Ruby is missing out on the books that Enid Blyton apparently wrote whilst on crack, where some kids (two of whom are called Fanny and Dick) find a magic tree and make friends with a guy who has a giant head shaped like the moon.

She just said in her ”getting out of a reading slump” video that one of the books she wanted to read was Jacqueline Wilson’s rewrite of The Magic Faraway Tree because it was her favourite book as a child when she was ”younger” (bc as we all know, she still thinks of herself as a child), and J.W. ”is” (still?) her favourite author

That reminds me, the other day I saw a clip of an Emma Watson interview from when she was about 11 and it was almost eerie how much she reminded me of Ruby: her accent, tone, facial mannerisms, everything about the way she talked was almost identical. Ruby’s just copied everything about her childhood idol and she’s been doing it for so long that I don’t know if she even realises it any more. She‘s become this strange 22-year-old tween and it gives me the creeps.

Actually i think she doesn't do it on purpose, i think she just speaks like that cause she's just pretentious af. And she probably only interacts with pompous ppl like her.

I've seen tons of ppl on Tv speak in that exact same intellectual genius af way. It's so irritating. lol.

I think every year she sounds more and more pretentious. Maybe someday she'll think she's too good for Youtube and retire.

It was definitely spoken about on instagram (at the time, anyway) as that's how I found out about it, I don't really use twitter regularly. Obviously not so much now because it was a while ago and probably also the fact that liking tweets is definitely less severe than the actions of (like you say) JK Rowling, although still questionable. I wasn't necessarily criticising her for reviewing the book giving a plot summary and describing the writing as beautiful and cosy, it's mainly because because I was an active follower of 'bookstagram' at the time Collins was liking the tweets/the discussion was popular, everyone was pissed and so that was my experience of it, rather than hearing about it a year later on a gossip forum fully appreciate people are entitled to read and review what they want but I don't really think it's 'chronically online' if someone makes a personal decision to not support an author that has previously exhibited 'harmful' behaviour (however they subjectively define it)

No of course, I understand that people might have been upset by it, especially if they’re trans rights activists and were big fans of this author, to learn that she didn’t agree with their views would obviously be a bit of a blow.
By ‘chronically online’, I didn’t mean you choosing to not support the author, it was more that it seemed you were suggesting that Ruby shouldn’t support her either bc of these liked tweets, when in reality they’re not particularly controversial or openly anti trans. But if you weren’t suggesting that then it doesn’t matter haha

I am willing to bet anything she meant biscoff because that's the only way a mini banoffee pie works. She's just too dumb to know how to spell it.

She's 100% only going to back to the book club and her abandoned Discords to try to use them as a resource to steal book ideas from. Expect lots of random "questions" like, "I was just wondering what's your favourite scene in which a very gifted bookworm whose family don't appreciate her is bullied for being too smart? Mine is Matilda, but yours should be books which I haven't read (like that narrows it down haha!) but I will act like I've read them as soon as you mention them because I can't have any of you common scum showing that you read more than me!"

Imagine Roobs accidently stumbling down the V.C Andrews rabbit hole on her quest to steal content. I don't think she'd ever leave the manor again.

yes and no. I have been a customer for a couple of years.since I saw them at a Vegan fair.. I was attracted by the pumpkin one which tasted much better back then. some are great. some are vile some are tasteless.

One of their big sellers is Blue Raspberry which tastes like metal to me but they do a Peach Cobbler one where you can actually taste the pastry. The Chocolate digestive one is lovely.

They do have a nasty habit of discontinuing my favourite flavours

She's probably having a hard time finding vegan stuff to eat while on holiday here, it's often hard to find vegan options, especially when it comes to street/beach food. Most places have vegetarian options with cheese but vegan options are definitely harder to come by. And even asking for modifications isn't very easy when there's a language barrier and the average 18-year-old working at the beach bar can barely understand what you're saying

For a one-minute video, I thought it was very food-focused. Or maybe that's normal when you're traveling?

I think I'm just so surprised that Ruby has read Call By Your Name and apparently loves it as it's really not a book that I can see her wanting to read it, let alone inspiring her to go to Italy. I thought the book was okay but I dislike how predatory it was and the peach scene, I was horrified by that and it's put me off peaches ever since I've read it. I wonder what Ruby thought about it.

Would Ruby want to live in Italy after this? Will it become her new personality and fulfil a certain aesthetic for her? Anxiously awaiting for the new episode of the adventures of Ruby!

First off, I have watched the film not read the book yet*
Are there wild differences between the two? The reason I'm asking is because the book seemed to be marketed as a great, tragic love story.

The film made me feel uncomfortable and your "predatory" description nails why. An underage gay teenager being seduced by an early to mid twenties aged man isn't a warm-hearted love story.

Ruby claimed to love the Netflix drama 'Heartstopper' but CMBYN is a world apart.

I own the Salman Rushdie one and that came out in 2017. There are probably newer ones but the series is at least 5 years old. Of course not everyone knows every book, but not very on brand for her.

It's the assumption that because SHE hasn't seen them, they must be new. Also lowkey outing herself as a fiend for covers rather than content.

Tbh good on her, those results are amazing and it’s clear she worked very hard for them.
I’ll be honest, I was discouraged when I discovered how well she’d done (and that she was disappointed with her diss grade) considering I recently got a 2:1 that I worked very hard for, but then I remembered that I got that grade while juggling 2 part time jobs and dealing with my boyfriend being hospitalised twice and my close friend going missing. Ruby’s grade clearly indicates that she worked very hard, but let’s not forget how privileged she is. She can afford to spend all her time studying. She doesn’t have to worry about paying rent and she has grown up in an academic household with a private education. She is at a massive advantage compared with the average student and is still coming out of uni with relatively limited life experiences despite her stellar grades.
I also find it funny how much she stresses that numbers don’t matter while giving a paper by paper breakdown of her high marks and expressing disappointment over a solid first. Also that pterodactyl blouse.

I'm so sorry for everything you've been through. I hope everyone you love is ok now.

I am glad she's asking for recommendations on Italian literature though. Perhaps she finally realized there is a world of foreign literature that is just as good as English literature.
Il giorno della civetta (The Day of the Owl) is quite a famous novel but I've never actually read it myself. I know it's about the Sicilian mafia but not much else.

I've read a few of the Andrea Camilleri/Montalbano books someone recommended to her, and really enjoyed them. They're detective novels though, so probably not her type of thing (though I think he also wrote historical fiction before he started the Montalbano series).
