I feel that I'm getting stressed for Ruby's dissertation especially when she is mentioning that she is going over to see if she needs to do extra research. There has to be a point where she just has to stop messing around with the dissertation and get it done and handed in. How much work does she have left to do?

And the daddy bit … let’s just say that people got a bit thirsty at the height of lockdown. It was not our proudest moment.

Perhaps one of the most shocking moments in the whole time I've been on the group. It wasn't the best moment, I thankfully never succumbed to appeal of Daddy Bones as other than being a bit gay, the fact that he is realted to ruby is enough to put me off. I do wonder what he's like, he's a bit of a man of mystery and how does he fit within the Granger family?

Admittedly I find the whole family just interesting. I'd like to be a fly on the wall and see how ruby is doing with her dissertation as the last video looked like she was floundering a bit with it. Still don't know what it's about, wonder if she'll ever explain it. It doesn't feel like it has an argument other than Lewis Caroll wrote letters and gift giving.

To be fair, English literature as a field of study has undergone/is undergoing a rethink of what constitutes "the literary" and letters are definitely fair game.

Absolutely, I think letters can also prove vital for specific literary research and I'd say most written texts can be fair game as long as there is a logical reason behind the choice. I think what bothers me most is that her dissertation seems so directionless, there seems to be no rhyme or reason behind why she decided to focus on these letters specifically besides "I love Victorian letter-writing etiquette" and "I ALWAYS make sure to post seven letters a week". Also, the fact that she was researching Bakhtin's polyphony of the novel at some point which the author strictly applies to Dostoevsky's Brothers Karamazov (which just sounds like another Greek muse excursion but in a completely different direction) - it is just such a puzzling experience to witness.

That Mother Granger's roomba really threw me off for a moment, because of this forum I thought she was referring to Ruby for a second

As a stopgap until she finally builds all those Holocaust memorials in schools across the country (which is JANUINELY, HONESTLY going to happen, for sure!), Ruby has decided to punish young students by tossing "THARTY" of her shitty unsold planners at them.

Y'know, the planners that have been gathering dust in a warehouse and she's been unable to sell even at drastically reduced prices (they've coincidentally dropped down to £2.99, which is still £2.99 too much). The ones that run from January to December, making them nearly 50% useless for their already questionable purpose. So KOIYND and SALFLASS!

A lot of schools could use a lot of help, and subjecting them to your scatter-brained planning nonsense ain't it, Rubert. Why not volunteer your time to help the community? Why not make a meaningful donation of actually useful school supplies, books or money to a school or appropriate charity instead of offloading your worthless trash from your failed vanity projects onto people and undoubtedly claiming it as a tax write-off?

I wonder if it's because Ruby doesn't react well to criticism and they don't want to offend her? Some of her outfits look fine, but others make me hope she never ventures out in public like that for her own safety.

I was thinking that too. Ruby seems friendly on the outside but I feel like she'd take criticism badly and would get really defensivem pouty and angry.

It's the way the t-shirt is oversized but you can still tell she's tiny and bony underneath. And her legs look like sticks. There's nothing to her at all. If she keeps going on like this she'll probably have to go inpatient in the not so distant future

I think that it actually is a published piece called 'The Shape Shifting Storyteller' (you can find it here) https://lup.lub.lu.se/student-papers/search/publication/1776537 . No idea why it has 'Final Version before PDF' in the title.
I'm still curious to see if Ruby will share anymore of her essay/dissertation though.

I do feel a bit embarrassed actually that I've ripped someone else's work lowkey to shreds so apologies to the OP who didn't sign up for that but I doubt they'll ever read this forum anyway. I was assuming it was an undergrad level piece of work. I'm used to thinking in terms of 2000 to 3000 word essays in which case the wording seems very wasteful to me, but that's because I edit and condense my own work a lot, and clearly this author has more space in their piece to be less direct and immediate.

I doubt she'll miss Exeter at all, has she even spent time there? She kept wandering around the old parts of the uni and pretended to be in Oxford. I haven't witnessed her making the most of Exeter once, she's been either back at home or rarely in London whenever she got the chance. Ruby's shedding tears because she'll no longer have the student blanket over her fuck ups.

(I've been following PaigeY since her first exam result and acceptance video, she loves Cambridge, she asked her company to transfer her to their Cambridge office. She's found a flat with her uni friends and now she's working and living there as an adult with a job. Relocating is quite easy if you don't have a partner or kids with steady jobs/schools. Ruby just wants to play boarding school until she's old and grey.)

It's not like she's preparing for a big life change anyway, she's taking a gap year precisely to delay the big life changes as much as possible and continue doing what she was doing as a student (stay home with mommy and daddy and read children's books)

I don’t want to be *that* person, but on Jade’s story it said they all invited their parents and Jack had a picture of him and his mum there. But the sentiment still stands for all 3 of them! And the question of why she only invited her dad!

I stand corrected! But now my confusion extends to the organisers… they do realise that, just because they’re “studytubers”, doesn’t mean they’re still school age?!

In her vlogs she shows herself cleaning her laptop by shutting the lid and disinfecting the top (not really disinfecting because she wipes it off before it has time to work), but she doesn't clean the actual screen or the keyboard, ever.

Okay I was too curious and clicked on her latest video and clicked to see the comments in chronological order (newest first) and many people stated their age for some reason (or when they finished their studies) so a quick summary of the first comments:

- I'm finishing high school this year (so 17/18?)
- it's been two years since I've been out of college (24ish?)
- last year as an undergraduate (22ish?)
- I'm 31
- I started a master at age 42
- I relate to this at 26
- had my last school day last week (18?)
- gonna start university this summer (18?)
- been studying at uni for 7 years (25ish?)
- finished high school last year (19?)
- I graduated (22ish or older?)

Too lazy to do more. But many seem to be older than Ruby and then many around 18. Didn't find a teen or child but then again only did a little scroll.

By the way, she says in the comments she'll take a gap year and then do a master's. Did she ever say what she will do during the gap year?

I'm awaiting the inevitable 4-5 stars on Goodreads, either with no review at all, or a pointlessly vague one that repeats the pull-quotes she was handed at the screening and confirms that she didn't read it:

"Anyone who knows me knows I don't usually read graphic novels but I loved this so, so much! It's groundbreaking, honest, authentic and moving - but also joyful and fun! I would HIGHLY recommend this to anyone! Also check out the TV show which is one of my most favourite series! (4 stars)"

Well, she didn't even give it a score on Goodreads, but she did "review" it in an Instagram reel.

All Ruby's narration now sounds like she's just smeared peanut butter all over her mouth, it's just gross lip-smacking between every syllable. It makes my skin crawl.

That's not to say it's a unique and revolutionary book, just that Ruby never reads anything that isn't about rich children, with a recommended reading age of 8-10.

"It's about tyoo boys, NickandCharlie, byoth around fifteen, who fall in love, and roughly half is SAT at their school."

This tells me nothing. Ruby's just flicked through this and read the cover blurb again.

"The REALLY distinctive thing is how REAL it all is. I just LOVE how Osman focuses on toiny myoments instead of HUGE unrealistic plotlines."

I mean...that's almost every teen drama/romance story. And the "real" teen drama moments are the ones Ruby has been very outspoken about not liking and has a tendency to just skip over those subplots, even when it's integral to the story. Weird how that suddenly changes when she needs to advertise something and has very little idea what it's about.

Ruby, it's a GRAPHIC novel. Of course there's going to be a lot of visual space devoted to the story. That's kind of the point of the entire medium: it's 90% artwork. That's like reviewing a prose novel and saying, "So many words and paragraphs were centred around the plot and the characters."

Ruby didn't want to reuse the words "authentic" and "honest" again, but her brain is a withered prune and couldn't come up with any other synonyms, so she just keeps talking about how "real" it is without expanding on that in any way whatsoever.

"This was a really quick and comforting read which you should DAFFINITELY try ahead of the shyow which comes out today and is jost as gud."

In true Ruby fashion, she used a lot of words to say nothing at all. Yet again, it's so vague that I don't think for a second that she read this. If she did, that'd be even more damning in a way, because this is the most her brain can critically engage with or describe a book after years of studying English Literature and pretending to read hundreds of books a year.

Her review footage is also SYO AUTHANTIC that she gets in bed to pretend to read...

Sixteenth "talent" chosen to be embassadors for United World Schools' gala for girls' education. Ruby, whose entire brand has been focused on studying and academia, and who exclusively associates with girl students, is conspicuously absent.

Did she refuse to get involved because this is a charity drive in which she'd have no opportunity to keep the money (like the Ukraine charity fundraiser that she had to be dragged kicking and screaming to do anything for, and even then it was the bare minimum and she looked miserable throughout)? Or have Sixteenth gotten smart enough to keep her far away from any future charity arrangements?

(Also hilarious: She still can't figure out how or when to use emojis, so just duplicated Jade's.)

Jack said that they fund the tickets themselves so Rubi probably didn't want to spend money and do some actual "work". (I'm unclear on what they are going there for but probably- not to have a holiday).

I bet she has no public speaking skills and would be shocking speaking to a medium sized group face to face so probably decided against it. Especially people that are very very different from her (she loves people who are the exasr same) , possibly with difficulty of speaking English (which would freak her out because she's sO wELL sPokeN
