This! The obstinate refusal to do the bare minimum. (Then again, that's our Roobee in a nutshell.) I don't know why she thinks it's acceptable to not even try to find out how the name is pronounced, and it definitely speaks to an almost imperialist mindset. Similar to the handful of times she's referenced a book not originally written in English - she'll say the name of the translator rather than the name of the author, because obviously foreigners don't matter. If anything, they should be grateful that someone has bothered to translate their feeble efforts into English.

(I'm not at all familiar with Einaudi's music, and sadly, thanks to Ruby, it's entirely possible I never will be. She's got the reverse Midas touch.)
Noo I love Einaudi. Before Covid I went to his concert in Milan and it was magical

Btw this is the same person who made a Holocaust Notion page for clout, featured a Holocaust victim's story in it, and misspelled his name several different times

She can't even pronounce or spell most English words correctly, sadly... I can't believe she ever took Spanish as a subject in school. Her accent must have been atrocious.
Italian and Spanish are very similar, and in particular c's are pronounced the same, so the fact that she immediately went with a soft c when that is clearly a hard c, and would be a hard c in Spanish as well (because it's followed by an o) tells you everything you need to know about her Spanish I think

I think her writing style is clunky, repetitive, and inelegant. My advisor's number one tip for writing my thesis in English was to avoid long and convoluted sentences with too many subordinate clauses, and I think that's what happened here. I don't know about you but for me, some of her sentences are hard to read and comprehend because they're too long.

Has the malnutrition fried her writing skills? I'd hate to know how many words she misused and how many sentences she mangled in her dissertation. She's an English student ffs
I was just about to the post this as well! Does she not re read what she's done before posting?? Says a lot!

I was in so much confusion and disbelief over the literal garlic bread that I googled "raw garlic on bread" and lo and behold, there is an actual recipe for this! Apparently the idea is to toast the bread and then rub the raw garlic on the bread so that the taste rubs off. It's also advertised as having "no added fat" so maybe that played a role in Ruby's thought process (?) as well.

That's how we normally make garlic bread or bruschette in Italy, you rub a clove of garlic cut in half over the bread with a little bit of olive oil.
But why would you serve it with the raw garlic still on it if it's not intended to be eaten?
It's not in Ruby's nature to look up actual recipes, I still think she just took "garlic bread" literally. I mean she's shown herself eating whole cloves of garlic in her food before.
Maybe it's a health thing. I've heard extremely old people mention eating raw garlic everyday when asked about their "secrets" for health and longevity

Holy mother of waffling, this essay is incredibly inefficient at getting to a basic point that Lemony Snicket is a didactic narrator, but also diverges from it in key, and still unknown as of yet, ways. There are so many filler words "gloomy and ominous" could just be "ominous", or better yet, "foreboding" likely covers what Rubius was trying to convey with both words. It's also like she doesn't know what pronouns are? She wrote "The Bad Beginning" and "narrator" so many times and with sentence restructuring it could have easily been "that/it" and "he" and cut down on words and repetitive phrasing. The sentence describing the plot of the book is a serious run-on and should have been cut in two. It would have read better and been easier to understand.

Also, this might be a regional thing, but across the pond in the US, we were told to never use parentheses unless it's a translation of a foreign word, a citation, or something else I don't remember. The reasoning being that commas suffice and that it's used as a lazy way to pack in aside information that doesn't have bearing to the main thesis. While I think this is mostly BS, I'm surprised that Rubidium has gotten away with it for so long and not been penalized. Especially since whatever writing I've seen of hers, whatever was in the parentheses was totally irrelevant. In my high school, this wouldn't have gotten higher than a C. How is this acceptable in a university?

Also Rubelite, I'd like to point out that I'm an engineering major. Yep, the major notorious for having poor communication skills and a loose grasp on English. I haven't taken a humanities course in several years, but I can still easily find problems with your writing as a 4th year English student. I think that's a fucking problem, don't you?
I think in British English, parenthesis using brackets is valid. We consider parenthesis as being through brackets, commas and dashes, rather than just brackets, as being pretty similar. It's a tonal/register difference, but grammatically it's usually fine.

Here’s a sample of the type of work she submits. I feel like a graduating English student ought to be able to distinguish between ”cite” and ”quote” and use a simple expression like ”in spite of”/”despite” correctly.

I went to her video and paused it so I could read. HOW is that an essay by a final year English Literature student, currently sitting on a First? HOW.

Her posture looks a little odd in that dress, if she'd hold herself more confidently, she'd look incredible. But it's understandable, it's totally out of her comfort zone
I thought the same thing- if she stood up straight she’d look way more comfortable. I don’t have room to talk, I have little self confidence but I always try to remind myself to stand up straight because it really does make a huge difference

Maybe I'm being cynical but I doubt we will find out the real grade. Whatever she gets she will tell us its a first, 115% or something realistic...
I dont believe she's been getting as good grades as she says she has gotten in essays either.

Just here to say

Hi, new here. I have seen quite a few of Ruby's old videos in the past, I like following booktubers so only ever was interested in her book content rather than productivity.

I'm quite shocked after reading the wiki, but what always bugged me about her was her ED. I stopped watching her videos even ocassionally because of how unhealthy she seemed. I just dismissed it as her being vegan and thus making herself sick - rather than researching how to eat a vegan diet she just eats like normal except things that aren't vegan (if that makes sense). Although many of the people I watch from YouTube turn vegan and the health issues follow shortly. Subtle at first, then doctors needed. But after seeing the photo proof from tattle about her meals I'm appealed to say the least. Especially that the "finger sandwiches". So irresponsible.

Other than that her persona and video ideas are pretty boring. I remember seeing one where she was talking about all the different ways you can use an empty notebook. Pretty wasteful in my opinion. You really don't need to waste paper on many of the trivial things she apparently uses her 30 odd notebooks for.

Reading about her wealthy parents I just don't understand how people find her relatable/inspiring/a credible advocate for lower and middle classes?? Despite her extensive vocabulary and apparent education she seems a bit daft.

I'm glad this thread exists and looking forward to seeing more on here, though I definitely will not follow or watch her again - tattle is my news source 😂📰

To be fair Jamie Oliver does this too I've seen a number of his videos where he suggests rubbing garlic on the bread to give it a garlic taste. Never done it myself but it must work if Jamie Oliver does it!
I think she def missed the rubbing part and just simply put it there for assthetic.

She looks like she's been crying in her most recent videos, could be the sun but her eyes look super glassy. Tbf though whenever she does a timelapse of her 'studying' she looks like she's on the verge of floods of tears

It's the way the t-shirt is oversized but you can still tell she's tiny and bony underneath. And her legs look like sticks. There's nothing to her at all. If she keeps going on like this she'll probably have to go inpatient in the not so distant future
I can’t help but feel that’s what she’s after. In her mind, it’s probably just like boarding school. I think the reality of adult in-patient treatment is a very, very long way from what Ruby thinks it is, particularly as there won’t be any going home every few days.

Having an eating disorder isn't a Get Out Of Jail Free card for for unethical behaviour. Bit suspicious of herathebeaver because they seem to be defending all of the studytubers from criticism. 🧐 Tattle is a gossip site, not a fanclub.

What a scary thought. We might log in one day and find you giving tea reviews (''banana-y, blueberry-y, birthday cake-y'') and telling us how we can condense our one big essay into 50,000 small, manageable essays. Perhaps this is a fate that awaits us all.
My thesis will suddenly just become tangents of just how banana-y banana tea tastes or how giving someone a gift is a part of gift giving.

Welcome to the I-am-no-longer-watching-Rubys-videos-club 😂 I made that decision like a week or so ago. You'll find my post somewhere. I think it's even on the previous thread if I'm not mistaken.
