That’s totally fair, I think that one of the most important things to highlight if you’re giving study advice is: find out what works for you. If you learn best through physical notes that’s great, if you’re better off with digital that’s great too. But Ruby seems to think that you have to use EVERY method to do well, hence having notes on notion, kindle, in physical books, notebooks, planners etc. Maybe she should say “if you like online notes, x is good, alternatively y is great for people who prefer paper” rather than encouraging her followers to buy the entire stock of a stationery store, as well as apps and tech (spending double the amount of money and time necessary)

I guess that's the takeaway here: Rubadubdub is incapable of thinking about anyone except herself and therefore any other way of doing things!

I was in the shower and, because Ruby Granger lives rent free in my mind (lol) I started thinking about the baffling lack of compassion and the selfishness that she shows.
I've been "following" her for years at this point (I'm not subscribed to her channel anymore but I keep an eye on her). Correct me if I'm wrong, but has she ever raised money for a cause? Donated money? Shared a GoFundMe page her fans could donate their pocket money to? Donated her possessions?
Granted, she may have done charity in private and not talked about it on her channel, but I doubt it. This is someone who expects praise because she held the door open for someone. And even if she did, considering the massive following she has, it would literally be detrimental to a cause if she just donated and not shared it on social media.
The past couple years have unfortunately been full of disasters. Everyone else I follow has done something about at least one of them. Either organised a fundraiser themselves or donated to an existing one and urged their followers to do the same. Ruby is out there buying houses with her revenue from Youtube, her family lives in a literal mansion, her father drives an Aston Martin, and she won't even donate her old clothes. So much for being "an ambassador for kindness" and "aligned to the values of Christianity". I guess she skipped the lecture about giving everything you have to the poor.

Molly and Blakeney both have short hair, I wonder if Ruby would be tempted to copy? Then again it wouldn’t be very Victorian I suppose. I’m actually surprised Ruby doesn’t research and cosplay elaborate updo’s to match the aesthetic she is trying to portray.

Theoretically the goodreads rating system should be based on how much you personally enjoyed the book. So it could be that your analysis is different from how much you actually enjoyed reading the book. But in reality it just doesn't work like that.

If I had to list the top 10 Roobee cringe moments, the fake freckles would be surprisingly near the top. I feel like they just epitomise (oh hey look, correct usage!) all that’s wrong with her.

Also just to stick up for her a little, it’s not a bad thing that she has mental health issues.

While these threads are fun for gossiping, they are just gossip at the end of the day and you can still like aspects of Ruby while not liking other parts. Eg I think Ruby is disorganised and repetitive with her content, but I also think she does study hard (and gets good grades) and I haven’t seen a reason to think she isn’t kind.

I do not blame Ruby for having mental health issues, that’s totally ok! The thing is that people see her as perfect example of being in harmony with herself (lots of comments on Yt prove it). And she is an influencer. But she lies to her subscribers and to herself as well. I just wanted to say that there’s nothing perfect, even she is not as perfect as she wants to be. And now it’s just hard to believe her because there are lots of things behind the beautiful picture. And yes, she is a hardworking student, but now I’m not sure that she really enjoys studying as much as she talks about it. I’m not sure that she reads books for pleasure and not for numbers. And that she buys books because she likes them and not because wants beautiful decor in her bedroom. Same goes for kindness. Maybe it’s just for a perfect image (in which she truly believes). Anyway, it’s my problem that I was so naive to utterly believe her and I still think that Ruby isn’t a bad evil person. Just maybe not the one she wants everybody to believe in. And it’s not a good idea to want be like her (but lots of people want because of the influence). Correct me if I wrong

We use to rent in what was classed as a one of the poshest parts of Birmingham and paid 650 a month for a two double bedroom flat with a private garden

Side note did anybody read those rainbow fairy books, Ruby the red fairy etc because I used to love them and I'm only mildly annoyed there wasn't any with my name, I'm shocked Ruby hasn't read those recently though she loves a children's book

Oh my god I loved these books when I was a kid they were amazing!

Also I don’t really have an issue with Ruby not reviewing everything she reads. I only write reviews on GR every now and then if I want to put my thoughts down, but I’ve rated stuff 2 stars and not justified it. I’d be curious to know why she’s rated stuff the way she has, but I don’t see the fact that she hasn’t put up a review as something to criticise.

THIS THIS THIS 1000 times over! I am due to start my primary PGCE next month, and one of my greatest motivators to be an educator is to help my students learn “how to fail” in all the ways I didn’t… until I was 21 and faced the biggest “failure” of my life, suspending my degree 6 months out from graduation because my mental health hit rock bottom.

I was Ruby. I was the girl who measured her self worth by numbers, by grades, by social media likes, and in the end by calories too - the final thing being the tipping point, and what I fear will be Ruby’s too. All of that was embroiled in the pursuit of “perfection.”

If my recovery journey was a book, the title would be “How to fail” - to quote Elizabeth Day, who would get an honorary mention in my dedication, because her podcast by the same name has been a game changer for me!

It was during the THREE YEAR break from my degree that I decided do work experience in a primary school, and after just one day I knew that’s what I wanted to do. No question. That afternoon one student had expressed her fear of failure with me - I vividly remember it was over a shoebox doll house they were making. She was so scared of getting it wrong that she had barely started 30 minutes in!

I saw how, bytalking to her and empathising, I was able to reach her in a way that jaw stayed with me ever since. I realised that, not only could I rewrite my own story, but I could give others the tools to write their own with words that are infinitely kinder, positive and - well - accept that they are HUMAN.

As I said, It was THREE whole years before I went back to my degree. That is how long it took me to truly get my life back from the grips of an ED, which was merely a mask for the real issue of crippling perfectionism and self-worth. I write this because I do desperately fear that history will repeat itself with Ruby. Just knowing that she is doing the same degree at the same university is like dejavu, but there is one more similarity that I almost fear more than any other - the role of the “good girl”; the “perfect student.”

I played it for over a decade. At school, and then at Uni. I was the girl who didn’t so much as drink a sip of alcohol until freshers week, never went out to nightclubs and - yes - I did judge others who did. I had that superiority that i see in Ruby, because that is not what the “good girl” does. That is not what the “model student” does.

Yet that “good girl” didn’t realise how bad things had gotten; how far she had lost herself in the pursuit of perfection. She didn’t realise because the lie was so powerful she had convinced even herself it was true; that the A*s and 1sts and curated images on Instagram were somehow more real than the sunken cheeks, the dead clumps of hair, the bloodshot eyes and the silent tears.

They’re not, Ruby. And if your reading this, I only hope you realise it before it is too late. I say that as someone who geninely cares, which is more than can be said for the dozens of ”fans” on Instagram and YouTube, who at this point are no more than enablers.

I am so sorry for how long this is! But I needed to get it off my chest, as you’ll provably understand why. The quoted post really hit me - but in a good way. In that I’m so thankful I was able to “make it it the other side” and now use my experience to “do some good in the world” as Hermione would say ( book seven Hermione, that is… when she’d finally sorted out her priorities!)

I am so glad for you that you are on the other side of your journey. The thing is, knowing
the eating disordered mind, coupled also with Ruby’s sense of superiority (à la Erimentha) - she wouldn’t read this and be motivated to solve her issues in case she falls down the same hole. She will read this and think she is good enough to balance an eating disorder with studying. She will think she is not weak, that she is the person that can control her ED rather than have it control her, that everyone who is saying that had to take time out etc was just not as strong as her.
This is common in people with EDs I think, it’s the denial, but particularly with Ruby who does live in a bubble of thinking she’s better than other people because she doesn’t fall victim to things like night clubs, sex, and losing control to their bodies.

This annoys me so much those books aren't cheap.
I donated my first year books to the university who gave them to someone that was struggling financially
There's no way they could do that if I had scribbled all over them

I do not get why an English student would choose to write her notes by hand, either on paper or on an iPad, when typing is so much quicker, more versatile and requires less effort. I get that someone who is studying, idk, Engineering and needs to write equations or draw diagrams and stuff can only do that by hand, but Ruby is studying Eng Lit. I imagine her notes are a lot like mine. My International Law notes are 120 pages long in a Word document. Can you imagine if I wrote all of that by hand?
Then I make mindmaps and stuff by hand when I'm studying because it helps me remember but writing out extensive/discursive notes by hand I do not get at all.

Sometimes it’s a good learning technique. When I was studying if I typed whilst I’d get loads done, due to my learning difficulty i wouldn’t remember very much or at all. So it could be a muscle memory, there’s a great study on why blue biro is the best to revise with due to the way the brain processes it

While I agree there is always a possibility someone will find out where you live when you're somewhat popular. Especially when you're not only filming study videos by your desk but also show your general life and surroundings. Sure don't show your house with a street and house no. on it but at the same time if someone really wants to find you they probably would. To avoid that you'd have to have a 100% anonymous channel without any reference to your actual name, area of the country, preferably film in a room in which your friends / acquaintances won't recognise. I mean if you want to keep your privacy you totally can. Thing is when you want to get shit tons of money solely for showing your boring life you need to be ready for disadvantages of that too. What if one of her followers lived in the same village - she could be spotted even in a shop and followed later. Same thing could also happen to someone who is not popular at all but came across some psycho. At the same time Ruby's not even close to the popularity level of celebrities who actually take precautions such as having a gated and guarded properties.

It always amazes me a bit how casual so many influencers are about their online safety. They moan and complain that they get doxxed online but in 99% of cases, they‘ve done it themselves and haven’t been careful about what they’ve shared. This seems especially so when they’ve started out at a fairly young age and they really haven’t comprehended the possible future impact of sharing so, so much about their lives and homes online.

She just lies about what she reads, drops random ratings on books because she knows she can't give everything 5 stars without even her fans raising an eyebrow (although I'm sure some would comment "You can tell Ruby's a true bookworm because she loves every book!) and now avoids leaving reviews because it would highlight that she didn't read the book in question (like her infamous Call Me My Your Name review).

I missed discussion about her review of Call Me By Your Name so just went to read it and…mind blown. How can she be an English student and book lover when her sentences are just random words (questionable in being actual words) put next to one another?

It's very blatantly written to be as vague as possible since she has never read the book, but she wanted to jump on the CMBYN popularity bandwagon and sound intelligent, so she shoved in a bunch of misused or invented flowery words. It's meaningless word soup that's so vague and ambiguous it could apply to almost any book. It's a classic "I got called on to do a book report but didn't do the reading" tactic. And she does it a lot.
