I just hope she doesn't say something like this when people inevitably point it out, lol.

Considering her blatant, dubious lies when she gets called out for everything else (like her Depop scams or the charity swindle) I'd say that's scarily close to what she'd say.

As for the honey thing, like most of her screw-ups, it's not so much that she does it, it's that she constantly puts on airs of superiority about herself for being vegan, when clearly taking a flexible approach to it.

If she'd said "I try to be vegan wherever possible, but there are times when I make exceptions" it wouldn't be an issue. Instead, she just goes out of her way to lie about these things that can easily be disproven. "I always sticks to a vegan diet. I always paint my nails every day. I always clean my room and make my bed every morning. I always do this, that and everything inbetween because I'm more productive than most people." It's just endless lies to feed her ego.

Agreed! People (mostly vegans) on the internet can often be really critical of 90-something% "vegans" ("So you're okay with animal abuse, just 2% of the time???"). Which is understandable, because there are also people expecting vegan praise for their baby steps, like "meatfree mondays" or "pesco-ovo-vegan 3 days a week".

Regardless of that, I don't think we should be too harsh on Ruby's "vegan slip-ups", assuming she is trying to recover from an ED which could be intertwined with the whole vegan thing as well. Like, ordering something with honey in it instead of ordering nothing at all may be a 'good sign' in that sense.

This is a tangent but veganism is a whole lifestyle and you can’t really be “90% vegan”. You CAN be 90% plant based and eat honey etc. But that’s not what veganism is about. Like you can’t be 90% Christian or 90% pregnant. But more to the point, I feel for Ruby being “vegan” was another bandwagon to jump on, to make others see her in a “wholesome” way and just another thing she has deemed will facilitate her superiority and “aesthetics”. I have no doubt that if dark academia was also associated with a paleo diet, she would do that!

I really don't think Ruby's take on the Harry Potter series is nuanced enough to appreciate the character of Severus Snape lol I mean he was one of Hermione's bullies so that's about it for her. I get the feeling she mostly pretends the last four books in the series don't exist

As soon as the characters show any sign of maturity and start being more independent thinkers, doers and relationships click in, Ruby opted out of the series. Too mature for her to handle. If she only reads the first few books, over and over again, she can keep them perpetually young, like she wishes she could be. Hmm. Not going to work, Rubes. You are getting older by the minute and it shows.

I really thought is was sad and pathetic that she considered time going to random places with her family as unproductive. That is just so twisted. A wise person knows that you learn from every experience, big or small, good or bad. But why must every single thing in her life be about productivity? I have never known anyone so hung up on a phrase or word. I hope she never has kids because they would have ulcers by the time they are 10 trying to meet her agenda. I would be worn out being around her after 10 minutes.

i think there are loads of people who are not familiar with the vegan/plant-based debate (and ruby might be one of them), and would simply consider themselves or others "vegan" even though they eat honey or buy second hand leather, because their diet is vegan otherwise. in my opinion it's a very nitpicky topic lol

Honestly I don't think Ruby would even begin to know the difference between, smart, wise and just having a good memory. Like with her obsession with early Hermione and the need to memorize everything in her textbooks, to the point she wasn't really learning but just quoting things, where in later on books when she actually starts using her Knowledge in different scenarios to prove she actually understood.
Also if Harry Potter was real and Ruby went to Hogwarts I'd have no doubt in my mind that Ruby would think Luna Lovegood is an absolute idiot and probably loathe her for getting into Ravenclaw because she wasn't the type of smart Hermione was

Just skipped through Ruby’s aesthetic bookshelf whatever tour and noticed that she once more pushed "The Overachievers" as one of her absolute favourite books, best she ever read, such an interesting look into the education system etc. Has anyone else here read that book? Because I did, when I was younger and more stupid and thought Ruby wouldn’t recommend it so highly if it wasn’t good.

And that book is so superficial, repetitive and shallow. Like, yes, some parts in between are interesting because they give an insight into other peoples lives. But there is so little depth to it. Which is fine! not everyone wants to read highly researched takes on what the education system does to people’s youth. But if you have the slightest interest in this area, "The Overachievers" is just the same old basic ideas about overscheduled kids and the evils of overly selective colleges rehashed over and over. The message is basically "Getting into Harvard isn’t all that great anyway, look at Frank here whose mental health totally suffered, and all the really smart people choose to schools that fit their personality regardless of the school names prestige". I truly did not understand how Ruby "I obsessively research everything I’m interested in" Granger could seriously perceive this book as one of the most insightful and best pieces of nonfiction ever.

Of course, it turned out that persona is fake and Ruby is exactly as deep as "The Overachievers", so it all makes sense after all. But seriously. "My favourite book ever is The Overachievers!" perfectly encapsulates Ruby.

I've never really understood why adult YouTubers do 'Back to School' content. It would be more acceptable to title them as 'Getting ready for September/new academic year' or other more generic title, then viewers can take what they want from it (be it school, university, a new job etc.).

It makes it confusing who she thinks her audience is.
