How ancient are you?My bloods are normal. I feel like I am defying the odds as an old large pregnant lady and I’m loving it! Don’t get me wrong, I realise that women of all shapes and sizes can develop GD and the actual increased risk comes from having a placenta in your body, but the NHS loooooove to large shame. They’re also really set on checking my blood pressure, fortnightly from now on I think, because of my ‘elevated pre-eclampsia risk’ aka being large and old. Blood pressure has consistently been perfect.
For reasons unknown they decided to re-check my blood type this time around, which funnily enough hasn’t changedand my iron levels, which still remain perfectly within range.
To be fair to everyone except the horrible sonographer, nobody has been remotely large shaming of me. I was weighed at yesterday’s appointment but they didn’t tell me what my weight was. The gain was a bit higher than my home scales had suggested but I don’t think it was outrageous. The obstetrician requested I be given a leaflet about being a fatty and they haven’t given it to me, which I appreciated. But, the scars of being treated as nothing other than a large person by GPs (as recently as a year ago) linger with me, so I am constantly feeling like I have to prove myself by demonstrating how it is possible to have a normal pregnancy whilst being tubby and ancient.
I’m 42 if that helps, we can be ancient together
