My bloods are normal. I feel like I am defying the odds as an old large pregnant lady and I’m loving it! Don’t get me wrong, I realise that women of all shapes and sizes can develop GD and the actual increased risk comes from having a placenta in your body, but the NHS loooooove to large shame. They’re also really set on checking my blood pressure, fortnightly from now on I think, because of my ‘elevated pre-eclampsia risk’ aka being large and old. Blood pressure has consistently been perfect.
For reasons unknown they decided to re-check my blood type this time around, which funnily enough hasn’t changed 🤣 and my iron levels, which still remain perfectly within range.
To be fair to everyone except the horrible sonographer, nobody has been remotely large shaming of me. I was weighed at yesterday’s appointment but they didn’t tell me what my weight was. The gain was a bit higher than my home scales had suggested but I don’t think it was outrageous. The obstetrician requested I be given a leaflet about being a fatty and they haven’t given it to me, which I appreciated. But, the scars of being treated as nothing other than a large person by GPs (as recently as a year ago) linger with me, so I am constantly feeling like I have to prove myself by demonstrating how it is possible to have a normal pregnancy whilst being tubby and ancient.
How ancient are you?
I’m 42 if that helps, we can be ancient together
I accidentally saw my weight gain on Mychart 😱 my friends were telling me it’s all baby but bubs is only 23rd percentile 🤣

I’m 40. Big up the 40s massive, haha!

To be fair there is baby, the amniotic fluid and the placenta to take into the equation. Not that I’m making excuses! I swear I have gained this much weight before eating considerably less than I have been the whole pregnancy, I think my PCOS imbalanced hormones have a lot more to answer for than the GP has ever given me credit for! I’m not sure where my lad is on the percentile range, maybe it’s too early for me for that? I also learned I won’t routinely be measured with a random paper measuring tape because I will specifically be getting growth scans. Every day is a school day!

Same same. 39, first baby, overweight and high pre eclampsia risk. Been taking my blood pressure daily and it's been all good no GD, weight gain within limits. Still doing pilates.

I’m high risk (not to do with age) but I have an immune disorder like lupus which can potentially cause blood clots and preeclampsia
Bought a blood pressure machine and those urine dipsticks odd Amazon which gives me a sense of control and reassurance

Hunting for the free stuff from the Boots Parenting Club has been a bit like trying to catch pokemon 🤣 finally came across the Tommy Tippee bottle and soother today to complete my collection.

I’m just 16 weeks but am experiencing painful(ish) pressure feeling down below.. a sensation that can only be described as feeling like I’ve just been kicked in the privates by someone wearing steel toe cap boots, or like my legs have been on stirrups for far too long, and it’s worse when I bend down. Assuming this is all normal and just ligaments and things stretching. Just feels like I’m quite early along to be feeling anything this intense, it doesn’t exactly bode well 😅 any recommendations for relief are welcome 🙏🏻

Ah sounds like pelvic girdle pain. It’s been the same for me from around the same time. Sadly there isn’t a huge amount you can do. Make sure you are doing your pelvic floor squeezes regularly (there’s a brilliant nhs app called squeezy - you do have to pay but I think it’s worth it.) when dressing, sit on the bed and pop things like knickers and trousers on while seated (instead of standing and balancing), when moving in bed or getting out of the car make sure to have your legs together and move them together (pretend the paparazzi are trying to get an up skirt snap of you!). It’s important to rest so make sure you are actually sitting with your legs up for an hour or two if you can. Other than that sadly it’s just something you have to deal with UNLESS it becomes too much then please talk to your midwife and they can refer you for physio. Basically there’s no “cure” our bodies are just releasing a ton of relaxin into our crotch. Sending you lots of love, from one fan that feels like I’ve done a Tour de France to another xxx

I definitely felt like there was a small stone, maybe shot putt sized, bearing down on me quite early on, particularly near the end of a day when I was tired. Despite now being 28.5 weeks, it’s not gotten worse, it has become more manageable/ I’ve gotten used to it/ my body has adapted itself a bit.

MrDragName has gone away for work for the last time in my pregnancy/this year and this morning, before he went, he finally felt a kick from Junior ❤ was a very special moment.

Sorry for the huge delay 😂 Baby Koala arrived spontaneously (induction was booked for this day but labour started overnight so avoided!) 1st July, after quite a traumatic delivery- weighing 9 ibs 3 oz! Actual delivery time was 10 minutes 😭 he had to spend some time in the NICU but luckily we are all home now. ❤ my own recovery will probably take a bit longer but I’m just so happy he is here safe.

I got a letter today to say c section is booked for 29th August… immediately started panicking about really small things like the crib sheets and size of the nappy bag 😂 I don’t know why I am so stressed about sheets.

😂😂😂😂 I don’t remember getting so stressed the first time over anything the way I have done over crib and moses basket sheets. The amount of time I’ve spent googling is absolutely ridiculous!

Yes please lol
Basically don’t worry! I changed hers far less than i expected to, I thought she’d poo and wee the bed every 5 mins and it never happened! I just got these from Amazon and they were good. The second set are more waterproof and also more cosy as we had a winter baby

I also got these which were handy to just pop down under her for changing her nappy on the go or when I was downstairs and they were properly waterproof

speaking of sheets, what do you put in their pram? We have bought the egg 3, and the mattress topper/sheets that go with it, but none of these are waterproof, and it doesn't seem that there is a waterproof version? Am i missing something or are sheets/mattress topper enough? Also, the mattress topper is shearling and probably better for winter for the pram basinet, so is a sheet suffice on the pram mattress?

These things are distracting me from thinking about labour! 37w2d and finish work this week!

I managed to find a waterproof cover for the bassinet mattress which was like a terry towelling on the top for my Silver Cross pioneer a few years ago - pretty sure I found it from Amazon. I probably just searched for pram brand plus bassinet sheet.

Can we add a chat about good pram bags/nappy bags/bags for carrying all the baby kit when you’re out? Despite spending as much on our travel system as most people do on a second hand car, it didnt come with a bag unlike some of the systems. Looking for something in the grey/dark grey sort of colourway to match how dull and boring me and MrDragName are and it will go with the system we bought as well.
