Anyone dyed their hair in the first trimester? My greys are so bad 😂 but really not sure what to do for the best
I did right at the end of the first trimester, I asked a hairdresser for her opinion first and she said she'd had plenty of pregnant clients before for colour and there'd never been any issues. She did stress that it's totally individual choice

Thank you so much! Everything is so nerve wracking now x

You can dye your hair it’s just recommended to have a patch test before because you may be more sensitive to it while pregnant and also the dye may take differently in your hair 😊

If there is a more suitable thread please point me in the right direction, hoping anyone who has been in this position is willing to let me know their experience please😞
Our NT reading at the 12 week scan (although actually 13 weeks) came back at 7.10mm today and I am absolutely heartbroken. It is such a worrying position to be in so any experiences, positive or negative, would be appreciated if anyone has experienced similar😞

I’ve been lurking on here for a long time but never posted! I’m currently 29+3, second pregnancy and for the last 2 weeks I have developed really bad PGP. I work as a nurse on a really heavy ward in a hospital with lots of moving and handling and I’ve had the last 2 weeks off sick after basically breaking down in tears at work because of the pain.
I just don’t know if it’s worth me getting signed off now until my maternity leave starts or try to go through occupational health with a view to doing lighter duties on the ward, something which I’m not sure is possible as I can’t stand or walk around for long without suffering 😭. I have an almost 3 year old at home and it’s a struggle trying to stay active for her never mind throwing 12 hour shifts into the mix. It’s just making me feel soo defeated and depressed, I feel like an absolutely failure I can’t give my daughter the time and energy I once was, and then feel like a failure in my career as plenty of pregnant people work on hospital wards up until a lot further along than me. Just feeling really down with it all 😞
Also I had a scan today and my baby is breech with legs up to his face, should I worry about that at this stage?
Fellow nurse , did you not have your risk assessment down in first trimester and then reviewed in second trimester

What does everyone use for a hospital bag? I’m thinking of getting one of those small cabin cases but my bf reckons we should just get a hold-all. Also any tips Of things to put in there which you found really useful but aren’t typically on all the lists online?
I’m using a cabin case for mine and mt changing backpack for babies stuff.
For me I have: PJ’s, nightie, dressing down, flip flops, cosy socks, tracksuit for coming home in, pair of black leggings, vest top, bra, big black pants, disposable pants, maternity pads, breast pads (just a few as milk probably won’t come in), bikini top incase I go in pool, long phone charger, handheld fan, headphones, earplugs & eyemask, spritz for bits, wet toilet wipes, skin care bits, toiletries, lucozade sport & snacks
Baby: nappies, wipes, nappy bags, nappy cream (probs not necessary),large cotton wool pads, muslins & bibs, dummy, hat, cardigan/coat, short sleeve vests, sleepsuits & 1 outfit in first size (7 1/2 lbs) & newborn/up to 1m (10lbs), blanket, car seat & ready made formula bottles (planning to bottle feed from get go)

With my first I didn’t know I was pregnant and bleached it and it come out more purple than blonde, I couldn’t work out why, until I took a pregnancy test 🤣🤣

I'm 30 weeks (😳) FTM and all is thankfully well so far, but one weird thing is my baby gets the hiccups so often? Like 2/3 times a day. I know it's normal for them to have hiccups, but does anyone else's baby get them this frequently?

Have they offered you the NIPT test? Did you have the combined screening, what did that blood test say? What is the hospital saying, have they booked a rescan and referal?

I haven’t been through it. A lady on these threads in my last pregnancy had a positive test for Down’s syndrome after the amino. She chose not to continue with her pregnancy. She was shown nothing but love and support here.
There’s around 15% chance statistically of baby being healthy assuming the measurement is correct.

thanks for your reply ❤
the blood test was carried out today so waiting for results from that on Wednesday, then the option of the NIPT test or a choice of invasive tests which are a little more accurate although carry risks. It’s so devastating and really took me by surprise as we had an early scan a few weeks ago and were told everything was great😢

Not really, it sort of just got swept under the rug and left to me to raise any issues if and when they occur. I spoken with my manager about taking me off night shifts and giving me lighter duties/no M&H, however my rota has still not changed, still on nights and still have back to back long days. I ended up breaking down after a particularly heavy shift a couple weeks ago and have been off sick since 😣

You really need to get it down by your management , for me it goes down a long list of factors and what my exposure is to them all , list of all my restricted duties

I’m sorry you’re facing this and I really can’t say anything to ease it but didn’t want to read and run so maybe at least as a sounding board we can help.

Your Fetal medicine specialist or genetitcist will know far better than I but I read extensively about amino and CVS risks. There was a lot of talk that although X% pregnancies might spontaneously end after invasive testing, the reason for the invasive test may be the cause, not the test itself, they would have ended anyway so it’s impossible to get an accurate ‘risk %’. Like a correlation is not always causation situation. Of course, they will talk you through it all.

I’ve had the NIPT test twice due to my age but had no other risk factors. I don’t know personally if the NIPT test would be enough for me in this situation, if I’d go straight to the invasive testing. Perhaps if Wednesday’s results were positive it would be the decider. It’s a deeply personal decision. Some people decide not to test at all and take what comes. That would not be my approach but I understand it.

Some people already know what path they’ll take. Others take it as it comes, don’t make decisions until they have the full information, reevaluate at every stage and there’s no right way, what anyone else would do is irrelevant.
There’s also age, health, existing children to take into account. For me, what I’d have done in my first pregnancy isn’t what I’d have done in my second. Whatever you’re feeling, it’s all personal and valid and no one can judge.

Anyway, I’m trying to talk it out in the hope it can help you feel less alone but appreciate that ultimately it’s not a position I’ve been in and it might not be the right thing to do so just wishing you lots of strength and hope you have good support around you whatever comes. If everything turns out perfectly this is still incredibly scary. We’re always here if you need to talk x

Is anyone else an underweight BMI? I am. It never actually occurred to me this could affect my pregnancy and baby but now I’ve realised it can and I’m freaking out!!! It’s not on purpose, I can’t stress how bad my diet is - I eat a LOT of bad food, don’t exercise at all - ever. I quite literally do less than 1,000 steps most days as I WFH. So to be honest, I live the life of an overweight person it’s truly genetics and heritage to blame. I’ve never been over a size 6 and have weighed 47kg quite literally forever

But now hearing all the associated risks with being underweight I’m just panicked.

I am. It sounds like you've just described me above. I haven't been told any risks though, I just got told they'll likely monitor us more closely with extra scans later in the pregnancy.
Please try not to worry because the midwifes etc know what they're doing, they'll keep a closer eye on you and take any extra steps if they think it's necessary x

I am low BMI (was with my first pregnancy too… again, it’s genetics. I am vegetarian but my entire family is small and I am naturally a size 4-6 and 5’1 and have been my entire adult life!)

having a low or high BMI usually puts you on the pathway for extra growth scans. For example, I’ve not once had my bump measured the traditional way and it would be inaccurate based on my size. So both pregnancies I’ve had additional scans.

please don’t worry! I managed to grow a very healthy 7lb 2oz baby which was a shocker for me and the twins are currently measuring on the 62nd centile so there are no growth concerns. You will be absolutely fine ❤

Thank you so so much for your reply, it means a lot❤ I’m a little lost for words right now, just going to have to take each day as it comes and hope for a positive outcome. Thank you❤

Has anyone else had a birthing options appointment? I have one with the midwives and one with the consultant next week, due to have a emergency section, just wonder what happens at these appointments?

Yes, they just explained I could try for a VBAC and what could happen, how likely to be successful etc and let me ask questions. The consultant was better than the midwife. Neither can ‘advise’ as such but they can talk about likely outcomes.
