I’d say I 85% enjoyed the pod. I dont mind LS at all but the only bits that annoy me are when she talks for a bit too long like doing the ‘intro’ to the second hour she’d written and just laughs at her own not great jokes.
off the cuff she seems much better EG ‘I don’t retrieve it’ but she amuses herself So much when she writes. It’s not just her - anyone who does that annoys me. I also dont like when she / anyone says words in a bizarre pronunciation thinking it’s funny.

I totally agree with this. Laughing at your own jokes makes me cringe.

Oh my goodness!! My people. I’ve found you on Tattle! How nice to have some good people to talk about amidst all the horrors we normally deal with.

Retro One-r far too many times over, live vibe chaser etc etc. Husband takes the piss out of the fact I refer to them as if I know them.

John’s post was beautiful. I always feel oddly proud of him and Elis (and Dave). I am hoping for nothing but good things for him.

Hello! This is for anyone who would like to chat about the Elis James and John Robins show/podcast, which is on 5 Live on Friday afternoons. This is my first ever thread, so here's hoping I did it right...

Shall we start with how we discovered the show? I started listening to it on XFM yonks ago when I'd run out of murder podcasts, then I somehow forgot about it for a couple of years (maybe when they left XFM?). I rediscovered it in lockdown and my obsession was reignited. I listen to old episodes every night to get to sleep now! I just love how safe and inoffensive it is. I also have a bit of an inappropriate crush on John, lol (I'm sure he'd be... challenging... to date). I'm actually seeing him do standup twice this year (never have before)!

There are some absolute LOL moments on there. I love John's outbursts and Elis's refusal to be emotional despite the world burning around him. Dave is also a VERY GOOD EGG.

Something that really tickled me in the latest episode was when Elis said something about spoilers for tonight's game and John asked how they'd know the score already and he replied that he hadn't said something for a while so he just wanted to speak .

I made that face and 🥹 when I was listening to John talking about the expressive consent and the show during Cool Club, and like Elis the way he's spoken about it its made me want to watch it. But also he really does just articulate stories and anecdotes so well.

He sounds really content with his new GF. I hope this is the one for him. She sounds like she's good for him, which hasn't always felt that way to me from anecdotes about others in the past.

I've never listened to the Off Menu pods, but that's been two rave reviews for our boys doing it so I'll have to listen to theirs. Not sure I've got enough capacity to add another podcast to my rotation (especially not one with a back catalogue as long as theirs - I'm listening to back catalogue of Sexted My Boss, and the only reason I'm able to fire through them is that they're only 30/40 mins long (or 15/20 at my 2.0 speed)).

Well John’s storytelling becomes a bit of a running joke in the Off Menu one so if you’ve room in the podcast listening I’d recommend!

I agree, he sounds very content. It’s lovely.

Last time I got involved in trouble was when I dared suggest Jack Monroe wasn't quite the Saviour of the Poors as others thought. I wonder how that would play out now!

I think there are enough neckbeards on that group to soundly, self-righteously drown out any criticism of Grifty McGriftface. I wouldn't want to start the debate on there but I would kind of like to see it happen - bit like driving past a car accident that you can't help looking at.
