I don't really see the issue with the telephone triage? The last couple of times I've had that I didn't actually need to go and see a doctor, I just spoke to them by phone. Saves me the trip of going in. I do think some people need to get with the times. You don't necessarily need to see someone face to face. I've also used private appointments done by video call and again I prefer that to having to go anywhere. Had my prescription within 15 mins and even had the option of having it delivered to my home. The NHS definitely needs an overhaul but I don't think the people arguing that realise an overhaul would most likely result in an increase in telemedicine or seeing e.g. ANPs rather than a GP, and they never seem to want that either.

Re car parks - this was over 10 years ago now but when I worked in the NHS you had the option of paying £20 a month for the car park, and that wasn't even your own allocated space, just being allowed to use it! People were always moaning that they didn't get a space and they were paying for it. Stupid system.

Can they suddenly make car parks free for staff. I would put money on them being sold off / leased to private companies along when labour did all that ppp loans stuff.

You get a card from ours for free parking for EOL and NICU I think that goes in the machine. Just shows how each different hospital are singing off diff song sheets

Nothing the trusts do make any sense imo. Where I live there was a walk in centre in the middle of the town, they closed that, made it appointment only, then moved the walk in centre to Tameside hospital, but the reception is just the one in A&E, and they just bloody send you to A&E anyway or paediatrics, the walk in area is always empty. I took my eldest to A&E last year with a broken elbow and it just looked like another walk in centre because they’d sent all the kids with the usual toddler plagues up to A&E

They should do starting after 7:30pm and finishing before 8am as it's a gov guidance, although I've no idea if they can say the car park has been sold off so it's not within their power.

Hospitals are often so difficult to get to on public transport. The cost of buses also can be ridiculously high so many working people have no choice but to run a car.

ANPs are already there loads in primary care and physician associates. I haven't seen a FTF GP since before the pandemic and I have complex health conditions and medication. They can prescribe , they can't do sick notes but that's going to be phased in. I would be fuming if I was an ANP it's 50k salary but basically expected to take on most of the role of a doctor. This is what the government is doing piling on more responsibility and keeping pay static.

They still do the car thing now. Where my Mam works someone got pissed off and went around the staff car park scratching up cars from bonnet to boot. Security couldn’t tell them who had done it either.

Yeah I have no issue with ANPs but I meant it's the same kind of person who says 'I want to see a real doctor' etc. I think if/when the NHS is overhauled there will be a huge increase in stuff like ANPs, nursing associates, physician associates - aren't they talking about giving more responsibilities to pharmacists too? I wouldn't be surprised if eventually they bring back that conversion course for nurses to qualify as doctors as well.

I sat in a board meeting once in a large hospital whilst they discussed whether they could make parking free and decided they couldn't afford to lose the revenue. I suppose once you have had it coming in it's too much to lose.

I don't have a problem with telephone triage as a concept I have a problem with its current inefficiency and the inefficiency of the NHS as a business. I don't have a problem with giving nurses a pay rise I have a problem with the demand because col is living is high. I don't have a problem with recruiting more nurses I have a problem with not offering alternative routes to nursing instead of same old way. The NHS being run exactly the same as it was 60 years ago does not make any kind of business sense.

Completely agree with that. The NHS as it is currently run is a financial black hole. I suppose it would cost a hell of a lot to do a complete restructure and take a long time as well so governments (on both sides) think it's easier to just keep chucking some money at it and hoping for the best

Parking at hospitals should be free for everyone, or at least a nominal payment. It's extortionate.

I disagree about parking being free for everyone. I think that outpatients could have free parking but not visitors otherwise it becomes a freeforall. Every hospital I have seen has a bus stop on site and a taxi drop off point.

If you are working through the night, then there should be somewhere to get food. Even takeaways close at around 2am.

And this is where the problem lies imho. GP surgeries are private entities and whilst accountable to the GMC, the NHS have their hands tied. We need complete reform. And I say this as a registered nurse working in the nhs and with GPs daily.

Nah MRI is also a bit of a tit hole although can’t speak for the the children’s. I imagine if you have something rare it’s great, but if you want care for something run of the mill then a local district general would be grand

Sorry to derail the thread but I have a question about nurses. I have a friend who works at the hospital and she’s made it sound like she’s a nurse but I searched the register and she’s not on there.
