It's a Mumsnet thing to brag about how sporty and active your teenage boys are, and how many calories they consume per day - hundreds of thousands. On the other hand, your teenage girls are petite and dainty, with birdlike appetites.
and also swear that girls and boys are “naturally different” and they’ve treat both their kids exactly the same yet the girl loves pink and vacuuming, the boy food and cars, so gender stereotypes are fact and not societal influence at all.

it’s the “treat boys like labradors” trope that gets me. No wonder so many kids are confused.

My mother told my brother when he was about 4 that his shoes were on the wrong feet. “No they’re not, they’re on MY feet” he said. He’s 50 next year and she never lets him forget it 🤣

Some snobby twattery about using a fork in your right hand and holding the knife like a pen. As long as people don’t lick the knife or eat like a refurbished washing machine, I’m not sure why it matters.

ETA cross posted with Matt Hancock's biggest fan ;)

I'm assuming it's on the Teenagers section of the forum.
@Gym&Tonic I hope you weren't offended by a thread crossover ;)

Some Mumsnetters cant comprehend that left handed people hold their cutlery in the opposite hands to right handed people.

Traditionally the fork is supposed to be held in the left hand and knife in the right so that's the "proper" way for the UK.

FFS. There’s a thread saying state pension in UK (£800 a month) is too much!
I've just been reading that and the OP has backtracked saying she means wealthy people shouldn't have the same state pension as ordinary people.

Too little, too late.

She's basically accusing all older people of being benefit scroungers, despite the fact the majority of them will have worked their entire lives and paid national insurance contributions throughout.

In what world is £800 a month a bloody fortune anyway?

What on earth is wrong with the posters on Mumsnet recently (I know, I’m preaching to the choir…)?

They have always been an argumentative bunch, but seem to be getting worse. I foolishly read an AIBU thread this morning where someone was trying to find some positives about the cost of living crisis and she was torn to shreds. Mumsnetters can’t seem to disagree with someone without being self righteous pricks!

I used to really enjoy mumsnet, but having lurked on tattle for a few months now, I’ve started to see just how personal and nasty the discourse on mumsnet is vs here. It prompted me to finally register a TL account and join this much friendlier site.

(I can’t wait for all of the currently vocal oppression olympics mumsnetters to find the poncetastic Christmas threads which usually start about this time of year. Wait until they see that someone has dared light a Christmas scented Jo Malone candle instead of donating said candle to a food bank - the horror!)

There's no right way to do Christmas on Mumsnet. You either buy from charity shops, wrap in newspaper, then post how ungrateful your children are for second-hand tat, or you spend an absolute fortune on hand-crafted wooden toys, wrap in environmentally friendly hessian sacks and ribbon, then post how ungrateful your children are because they wanted a gaming laptop and some trainers.

Oh and the revolting snobbery about the Boots 3 for 2 deal on toiletries makes me cross. I personally love getting toiletries for Christmas, and I have no problem washing with Bayliss and Harding products either.

Nooooo they can't find the Christmas boards, poncetastic is my favourite, I live there from about September, we're a harmless bunch there, I'd hate for the Mumsnet arseholes to find us.

yeah, I dont get the Bayliss & Harding hate either, it seems perfectly ok to me? maybe not as a gift from your absolute nearest and dearest, but say from someone slightly more removed, I'd be delighted!

My hate is only because I'm a sensitive flower so have to be careful of what I use. Childs farm is actually marvellous for me lol

I think the hate is because they are Jo Malone copies, and as we all know, only middle to upper class people should be able to smell of lime, basil and mandarin. Lower class and under class have no right to smell delicious after a shower. Coal Tar soap for us and a drop of Dettol mixed with washing up liquid to wash hair.

That's ironic considering Mumsnetters are the most ungrateful witches alive. For example on Mothers Day if they're not treat to a four course breakfast in bed on a tray complete with Bucks Fizz and DH showering them with gifts and affection and then taken out for an evening meal they'll come on in their droves to complain of their "mothers day disappointment". None of them every ask for special things to do for their DH on fathers day. And then there's the boxing day disappointment threads as well as you mentioned

I think the Baylis are actually supposed to Molton Brown dupes. For some reason, the Jo Malone dupes at Aldi are praised to the high heavens on MN. I actually think both JM and the Aldi version are crap. JM is completely overpriced for what it is (although I may be bitter because I was once conned* into paying almost £30 for JM shower gel).

*I wasn’t actually conned, just very stupid and susceptible 😭

You and me both.

Mind you, I think most of what people post on there is utter bullshit anyway.

I've got covid and I'm exhausted so was just having a read of this thread and now I have something to get off my chest that I've never been able to before.

It was 2013. I had two toddlers, had just moved back to my home country after years away, was going through a very difficult time emotionally.

I took my kids to the library for the first time, and when leaving the kids section, there was a man looking at porn on the computer with the screen facing the entrance to the kids library. I told the librarian and left the library. Was quite disturbed by what I had seen so after thinking about it at home, later on I called up and spoke to a librarian to see what had happened. This librarian was absolutely horrible to me and told me he wouldn't tell me. Fair enough. I left my number and asked for a call back.

I posted on AIBU to check if I was unreasonable to look for an update on how they dealt with it. What I got was pages of people insulting me, telling me I was nosey, I was a prude, I was trying to stop this man enjoying porn, it was nothing to do with me etc, etc. I posted once more to say that by the reaction I was obviously being unreasonable and left the thread. That didn't stop them going on though!

Back in reality, I was then called by a library manager who was more than happy to help me out and reassure me that they'd dealt with it. That was all I wanted. I still didn't return to the library for nine years though.

Thanks for letting me get that out! Feels good.

Some of Jo Malone (and a lot of other modern perfumes, to be fair) smells like actual tit to me. There’s definitely essence of cowpat in some of them!
