Mumsnet #7 Tinkly little laugh

I've got covid and I'm exhausted so was just having a read of this thread and now I have something to get off my chest that I've never been able to before.

It was 2013. I had two toddlers, had just moved back to my home country after years away, was going through a very difficult time emotionally.

I took my kids to the library for the first time, and when leaving the kids section, there was a man looking at porn on the computer with the screen facing the entrance to the kids library. I told the librarian and left the library. Was quite disturbed by what I had seen so after thinking about it at home, later on I called up and spoke to a librarian to see what had happened. This librarian was absolutely horrible to me and told me he wouldn't tell me. Fair enough. I left my number and asked for a call back.

I posted on AIBU to check if I was unreasonable to look for an update on how they dealt with it. What I got was pages of people insulting me, telling me I was nosey, I was a prude, I was trying to stop this man enjoying porn, it was nothing to do with me etc, etc. I posted once more to say that by the reaction I was obviously being unreasonable and left the thread. That didn't stop them going on though!

Back in reality, I was then called by a library manager who was more than happy to help me out and reassure me that they'd dealt with it. That was all I wanted. I still didn't return to the library for nine years though.

They love nothing more than a pile on there. I was reading a thread earlier, about a work situation. I admit I skim read the OP but it reminded me of a work situation I had once upon a time. I was the newbie on the team, and one woman on the team constantly needled me with smart comments, supposedly funny.

If I said anything in return, (I seldom did, I was young and wet behind the ears) the others would rush to her defence, aww Joan is so funny, she is just having a laugh. I moved on and only heard in later years that one day Joan turned her bitchiness on a more senior member (same level as Joan) of the team, and the end result wasn't pretty.
I have no idea if it made any of them think back to telling me she was such fun.

Anyway, back to my point, most of the posters on the thread launched an attack on the OP. She is wrong and they don't see the problem with what the guy at work was saying to her etc.

I'm currently working with a woman who is nearing retirement age, but whom the rest of my colleagues hold in absolute thrall. She comes out with the most staggeringly bitchy comments, mostly aimed at me, and when I confront her, I'm told I'm lacking a sense of humour. She's also a horrific racist. She sent me a Facebook friend request and I took great pleasure in blocking her sorry arse.

To be honest, I'm old enough and ugly enough to stand up for myself, and if I posted about her on Mumsnet, I'd be told she probably has dementia because she's over 60

I’ve just read a thread about SAD (seasonal affective disorder) and how difficult they find the shorter days at this time of year and it’s taken less that one page before someone has come along to say how much they love it because it’s so ‘cosy’ and they can snuggle under blankets and drink hot chocolate with twinkly lights everywhere. Read the bleeping room!

Personally I’d rather be out and about in the fresh air feeling the sun on my skin and surrounded by nature than stuck in doors all day being ‘cosy’ They can stick their slippers and throws up their arses, The only time I want to be snuggled up and cosy is if I’m ill.

To be honest, I prefer to be out in the fresh air as well, no matter how chilly it may be. I feel stifled if I’m too warm.

Every time I see an advert for a cosy jumper, I think of Mumsnet and tinkly laugh

Respiratory syncytial virus.
Basically it’s a contagious respiratory virus that goes round in winter ( although we see it all year these days) and is like a cold for most people but can really cause issues in some babies and young children (Bronchiolitis) can can also affect medically vulnerable/older adults. It’s rife atm!

I too hate central heating. It’s horrible and makes me feel headachy and congested. It’s dry heat and don’t think it’s good for you. My grandparents resisted having it installed in their homes for years, we’re talking well into the 2000’s. They were rarely ill funnily

Oh dear lord. There's a thread going on atm from a mum who is miffed that her 6 year old daughter learned about sex from a friend at school, saying she's too young etc.

Personally I think that's fair enough but the majority of posts are flaming her saying her daughter should already know about it and shame on OP for not already educating her on it. With one of the posters saying she taught her kid about sex aged 3. What the actual duck? Surely this must be a joke?!

They're so middle class! When my 'DS' was in Yr6 they did some sex education and then proceeded to shout 'penis' and 'vagina' at one another.
