Is 'taking in ironing' even a thing outside of MN world? In this day and age, not the 50's I mean?

Also, can someone please clarify if it is normal to meticulously meal plan to the extent that they know exactly how many baked beans they will be having for breakfast in 2 Saturdays time? (OK I'm possibly exaggerating). But every time I read some sort of food or recipe suggestion thread I'm astonished at the extent of the planning.

I get that it helps in saving money, being organised blah blah blah, but sometimes it reads like they literally have nothing else in the house other than the set items on their plan. Don't most people have a cupboard full of essential stuff like pasta, rice, passata, herbs etc? I don't know anyone in real life that meal plans to that extent. We do always have a vague idea of what we might eat that week or we may decide to cook something fancy with niche ingredients on a Friday/Saturday night which of course needs a bit more planning, but man alive. What if you get to Thursday and decide you don't want the toad in the hole that you'd planned for the nights dinner 2 weeks ago??

I wouldn’t dare post on the step parent board because I knew I’d be ripped to shreds for how I feel being a step parent. It’s bloody hard work and depressing, having a hard time with it at the moment. Not everyone is a Mary poppins figure, but you should be in hell if you’re not according to them. To be fair I’m surprised many of them found a partner to even become step parents to begin with :LOL:

I've had my first comment deleted by mnhq. I feel like I've made it.

Apparently suggesting parenthood isn't for those who are wondering if they can put their child into care if it turns out to be disabled goes against their guidelines. Normally I'm not mean, but as the parent of a severely disabled child, it boils my blood.

I'm going to tell her that any kind of window covering - blinds, nets, drapes, curtains - is relentlessly old fashioned and screams ancient fuddy duddy to the rest of the world. No curtains is the way forward. How else can the neighbours see your Farrow and Ball walls and your 80 inch plasma TV? Why would you even want privacy in your own home? Have you got something to be ashamed of? Lights on in every room, no window coverings, let your home become like a full size dolls house for passers by.

Anyone else noticed the weird, lazy replies when an OP uses a measurement system others aren’t familiar with? If someone told me their weight and height in metrics on a post I’m just going to pop them into google to convert, but these MNers reply “don’t know what you’re going on about? Please repost using a weights and measures scale I am familiar with”

ah yes okay, Paula, what would you like? Happy to provide my weight in gallons and my height by hectare? Would this help?
