I'm an idiot. I made the mistake of reading their nicola bullay thread, thinking as mothers they'd be sympathetic, feel like I need a shower, they seem to be so so wanting it revealed that her partner killed her, to fit their narrative that all men are awful except their precious DH. Such horrible people.
Yeah I had a read of it too, was bleeping dire. They've been reading too many crime novels

Yesterday I saw someone use the acronym TYOJ, which I didn't understand - I googled it and got 'trust your own judgement', but in context it seemed more likely to be a person. Evidently someone else didn't get it either because they tagged the OP and politely asked what it stood for. A third person replied with a condescending post about how it meant 'trust your own judgement', and did the questioner's device not allow them to copy text into Google, which would tell them the meaning much more quickly than tagging someone and waiting for them to reply, if they even bothered to do so at all. Only Snarky McArsehole clearly hadn't read the full thread and so had missed the fact that the OP had *already* replied, just a few posts after being asked, to say it stood for 'the youtuber Owen Jones'.
That exchange really just summed up most of MN for me - loads of people who don't have the first clue what they're talking about jumping in to 'well ackshually' one another and rolling their eyes at how stupid everyone else is for missing the 'obvious', even when the so-called obvious is completely wrong. You see it on literally every topic from covid to Ukraine to cleaning to people's favourite breakfast cereals and it's just so boring.
I remember someone once saying something like, the problem with MN is that you get a few very knowledgeable people sharing an equal platform with a lot of very ignorant people who are totally convinced that they're right, and the anonymity means that if it's a topic you don't know much about then you don't get the usual social cues to help you tell which is which. This was ages ago so I've probably butchered their wording a bit but I think that's basically true. So much of it seems to be dumb people thinking they're experts after reading another dumb person's twitter thread, and making bystanders dumber too in the process.
Have to admit I did laugh at the poster asking her if she was going for a bottomless brunch.
i grew up in the 70s and 80s. Our cupboards had one or no packets of biscuits, one box of cereal, maybe some yoghurts in the fridge or fruit in the bowl. The fridge wasn’t packed either. We had our meal every evening and that was it. Maybe a cone from the ice cream van at the weekend or a single biscuit if we asked nicely. Snacks really weren’t a big thing. By the time I had my kids you weren’t a proper mum if you didn’t have plenty of snacks in for them…even carrying them around in your bag.
I went on holiday to America, aged 8, to visit relatives and loved their packed fridges/kitchens and all the treats.
Same. We only had sweets once a week (a chocolate bar) and that was it. It was a proper treat but as soon as I was a teenager and had my own money, I binged on sweet stuff all the time.
Having said that, there ought to be a balance. The way some of MN go on about ‘snacks’, it’s like their little darlings will collapse if they don’t eat every hour on the hour. Same with water at school and the constant need to be ‘hydrated’; I’m sure other kids of the 70’s/80’s made it through to adulthood without drinking 97 litres of water everyday.
These kinds of news stories bring out the ghouls. It’s worse when there are children involved.

I’d love for someone from here to put together a really ridiculous outfit and post it to see how much they gush over it. Obviously we’d never know who it was but I want to see just how awful the outfits can get before they stop saying how fabulous everything is
Spot on.
It entertains me though when they jump in with the 'well ackshually' when it's so obviously a troll in the first place who has contradicted themselves ten times over anyway.
