The rate we’re going we could nearly have the thread title as what day of the trial it is! Fastest moving thread I’ve contributed to 😳 I reckon it will get a lot of traffic the deeper we get into the evidence
Definitely. I can see this being one of the biggest threads on tattle in months to come. Not sure how I'm going to juggle this with my real life responsibilities.

The sarcasm on this thread is really off-putting. Think I’ll stick to reading about the trial on my own.

Seems you can’t ruminate out loud on here without someone jumping down your throat about it. If I don’t like a certain poster’s stance, do you know what I do? I scroll by. You don’t need to bite and suggest they’re wild conspiracy theorists.

@avabella was a good contributor to other trial threads and I like that she thinks of all other possibilities. It’s a weird case and there’s only so much information to go by just now. I expect there’ll be much more by the end of the 6 months.
Thank you that's really kind of you.

does it not mean post-mortems etc or would the RCPCH have already done that?

they said most of the infants had gone through a post mortem (I think I read elsewhere 1 of the parents didn’t want it done but don’t quote me on that as not 100%)

I mean tbf isn’t the law innocent till proven guilty? So it is a bit different declaring her guilty after 5 days when (as these threads show) there are still many unanswered questions and a lot of unexplained things.
We are not on the jury though. We are allowed to form an opinion based on what we’ve heard so far. I think most people on the thread are open minded to changing their mind as we get deep into the evidence. It doesn’t help the defence haven’t really offered much yet to cast reasonable doubt but he did say he intended to keep the opening short and leave the details until later.

If you want us to behave like we are on the jury then perhaps we should delete all the threads and stop talking about it.

So what about the poster she was picking on in the previous threads because she didn’t like their opinion? If you’re going to keep coming back with the same theory people are allowed to ask how that conclusion is made.
I didn't pick on anyone because of their opinion. I asked someone who was seemingly a 'professional' and armchair diagnosing Lucy with a condition, how they could do so without even managing to spell said condition properly. But the very fact you've brought that up sounds like you have an axe to grind with me so I'd appreciate if you just stick me on ignore.

Picture the scene. A meeting. Fair amount of people in the room.

Right.. figures are looking awful. Loads of extra deaths and crashes here. We really don’t want to be seen as responsible. Any ideas guys?

Could we look at shift patterns? See if we could pin it on anyone.

bleeping great idea. Ok.. one… two.. nope she’s off there. Ok.. one.. two.. three… four.. five…six…seven..could be on to something here! Ah tit nope that doesn’t work either.

Check again.

By Jove! We’ve got someone..Letby was there for all of it!
Jesus that’ll be a hard sell.. isn’t she the one we stuck on all the posters to be the face of the unit?

Yeah but you’ll never believe our luck, not only was she there for all of it- she specifically requested to work with a lot of the babies that went on to die in similar ways! Including those impossible to dispute insulin poisonings! That helps hide our tracks eh. Aaaaand she’s said loads of creepy stuff like she didn’t think babies that were doing well would get out alive.
Bingo! Perfect. Fingers crossed she’s got a load of weird Facebook activity and a note at home with the words I’m evil I did it I killed them on purpose at home.
God yeah that’d really help wouldn’t it Dave.

Right, think we’ve got that all tied up Phew! We can get back to looking really fantastic now. Want anything from the canteen?
Genius!!! 🤣

I think you’ve misinterpreted my comment tbh, I’m saying that there’s a lot of tension on the threads because obviously it’s an upsetting case but there is no point in getting upset with each other over having differing opinions on whether she is guilty or innocent because it’s not like any of our opinions are actually going to have an impact on the outcome of the trial.

I’m already struggling to keep up😅 no idea how I’ll stay in the loop over Christmas and other life events without neglecting my responsibilities. Sorry kids, Christmas is cancelled because I’ve got a trial thread to follow! (Joke of course)

If she’s not taking the stand in her defence, is it likely this note will ever be explained?
I think the prosecution will read out her police interviews and they will have asked her about this. If she had an innocent response and prosecution don’t raise it then I’m sure defence will.

I’ve seen cases where an NHS disciplinary proceeding has recommended an NMC review and the NMC have moved to strike off the nurse and brought in the police at that point - hope that helps. Not sure if that’s exactly what’s happened here but have seen that in the past.

Why would I ignore you, I simply asked you to elaborate on the same theory you keep presenting.

Let’s just move on now anyway because at the end of the day there have been several mod warnings on the LL threads already and if people continue sniping at each other over differences of opinion, arguments will continue to break out and the thread will just end up getting locked.
I know this is an emotional trial and there will be a lot of strong feelings, but I personally find these threads very interesting and have learned a lot over the past few days, so it’d be real a shame if they got banned because people couldn’t just politely disagree with each other and move on lmao.

Does anyone know with opening statements is the defence allowed to change theirs last min once they’ve heard the prosecution?

I felt the defence could have done more to create doubt about some of the big things the prosecution brought up in their opening statement

I thought they were required to report it to the police as a result of the RCPCH review as they made a recommendation to conduct a thorough external independent review of each death - was the external body not the police? Maybe I have it wrong though that’s what I took from it.

I’m not getting your point.

Anyway, failing trust, not optimal care etc.
I know it’s not comparable in severity but it would be difficult to find any care setting (NHS or private) where optimal care is given all the time.
There’s no one to help give an old lady her dinner, not optimal. A man waits 30 minutes for someone to help him to the toilet, not optimal. You suffer a complication after your private knee operation and have to be shipped out to an NHS hospital as the private hospital has no ITU, not optimal.
This thread is about the trial of LL. It seems she had a grievance against the hospital. Probably because she was on admin duties as a baby killing suspect.
I’m 100% certain there will be an enquiry after the trial. This will all be thrashed out then.
I know people will want to concentrate on different things but I’m interested in the evidence. For example the TPN bags of which I knew little until it was very helpful explained.

My point?!?! I was responding to a comment about why the police where brought in… I believe it’s because of the RCPCH review recommending an external body. This is regarding Lucy Letby so I’m not derailing or saying anything about suboptimal care.

OK I’ll rephrase that. I don’t know what RCPCH is. I’ll admit my ignorance about many things. Ultimately the Police were brought in.

The second part was just my general feelings on the matter.

They are the royal college of paediatrics and child health. They reviewed the issues at the neonatal unit lucy worked in and found no particular reason for the increase in neonatal deaths so they recommended for an external body to conduct independent reviews of each death. I believe the external body was the police.

Thank you for the info. I didn’t mean to be rude.
I think many people are going to be confused about the medical evidence, HNS management structure and processes and other professional bodies etc. I mean, if you don’t know you don’t know. Very helpful to get explanations.
