New to this blog and Kylie's channel. Does anyone else think Guido has a German accent?
Hi @Pensicola
I thought Guido's accent in English was unusual and couldn't quite place it but after learning that his mother is English I saw how his accent might have developed. I imagine his mother's English being clipped and formal.

Re: discussion of Kylie preaching about never drinking or having one night stands etc etc!

Specially for your enjoyment @emm @Denise0211 @Appleblossom @PlinyinTorquay!

Somehow I don’t think K has shown Guido her ‘uncouth, gluttonous, animal like’ behaviour (yet i.e until that gold ring is firmly on) Thought you would all like this story that Kylie did as a one and only freelance story for Australia’s SMH newspaper: (when she was having kittens about Spain and it was her true spirit animal rather than Italy):

“We maniacally spoon more and more of it into our greedy mouths, tearing at the seafood with our oily fingers, lemon juice running fast down our chins. Suddenly I am outrageously thirsty and look up to see the chef standing over us with a contented grin, watching our animal behaviour. He slams a jug of cold white wine on our flimsy little table, now strewn with prawn heads, lemon wedges, clam shells and olive oil.

“I am gluttonous, uncouth and in heaven. I gulp down an entire glass of the cool wine. Chuckling, the chef fills it up again, splashing wine onto the floor.”

“I raise the glass to my lips in private toast to this city.
She is cupped by mountains, sprawls out to beaches, has cosmopolitan promenades and dark secret corners. Barcelona truly is the lucky witch who is intelligent, beautiful and good in bed.”

"Hola." His eyes are shiny and his gaze so direct it seems almost childlike. "You are beautiful....”

Oh God I am surprised she didn't quote Vicky, Cristina, Barcelona at one point 🤦🏻‍♀️ does anyone else think this piece of writing is quite immature ? She was 25 here (not 16 😅) I am 1-2 years older than her here (although I'm an accountant so 100% not qualified to judge journalism) but I can't imagine writing something like this, it sounds like a teenager on their gap year to me, I just find it quite gimmicky for a self proclaimed award winning journalist e.g. of course there is a man that whisks her away and some cliche references to an old Signora (sorry not sure why the Spanish equivalent is called 🙃), it just seems all very eye-rollingly Eat, pray, Love to me, like I find much of her content.
I also don't understand lying about never drinking alcohol I mean it's not hard to find these articles, and info about her it's just one Google search away.. I don't think anybody would judge her for having drunk alcohol in the past, so why lie ?

*Speculation only* But I wonder if she developed a problem with alcohol along the way somewhere? She is so vocal about not drinking and judgey about it now, but it is clear she used to. My boyfriend doesn't really drink at all, but will have a sip of bubbly to clink glasses for a birthday or a bit of wine with friends to be polite at times. If you look at this video (more rich friends of Guido's), less than a minute in there is a?particular exchange between Kylie and whoever was serving. I remembered this video not only bc of the gorgeous villa but bc of the weird wine moment.

I just braced myself and watched her Year of Joy video. The segment with her friend from wherever is in it (that I mentioned a few pages back). When I saw it I didn't realize it was so recent (last summer, evidently). Was she trying to make Guido jealous....or? Wow.

It is odd @Denise0211 because It seems like the waiter is giving her a glass of wine (that she wanted) but she is not going to have it on camera but she will have it with lunch....

Couldn’t watch much more, her self-conciousness and the prententiousness and showing off is too much😬 She makes simple Italian food and an afternoon in the country seem like one long massive boast (like most of her videos) “Oh look I have friends with a huge villa/restaurant, oh look at my gorgeous Italian boy-friend, oh look at the gorgeous Italian food I am going to eat, oh look at my (terrible) interviewing skills..” and so on🙄

Also as an Italian, when she speaks my language it is like nails scraping on a blackboard, have to turn off... she tries so hard for a fake posh accent like in English that it is just too jarring to listen to....

Oh from when she has been with Guido she had totally put on a proper Florentine accent. I'm not sure whether to mock or compliment her lol.

Hi @Tdrinker I thought it was really badly written and that she came out of it seeming pretty uncouth and ignorant...she was never published again in that newspaper. Her descriptions were so over the top and unlike the house style (I used to read it when I was studying in Australia). She’s a really bad writer.

Oh definitely mock @Denise0211 😅. To us she doesn’t sound Florentine at all (and not all Italians agree it is the best/top, especially those not from Tuscany!) but the try-hard accent seems a peculiar melange of influences like her English...

toally agree, the SMH piece was what I would call "flowery", just like something of a high school studnet trying to sound "romantic", what a non surprise she was never asked to do anything again . I don't think she has had some kind of issue with alcohol tbh but she just uses not drinking as a way to make herself seem better than people that do drink imo... I don't know about the italians in this thread, but from some of the more "traditional" italian men i knew when I lived there there was a big thing of men drinking bit women not so i don't know if this might be the case with guido, trying to be the perfect casalinga etc. Also now I imagine she is pregnant so....

omg I have just watched around 10 minutes...so many thoughts already... first of all the italian government didn't "advise" people to stay at home, it was a legal requirement, second.... her acting as if it could be some kind of beautiful experience, yes I can imagine in a villa in the middle of the tuscan countryside when your work isn't really impacted it might be relaxing, less so if you are in a tiny cramped flat with no outside space and children who you are home schooling i would imagine?! she is just so out of touch it is unreal

@emm I don’t think she has a drinking problem either it is just another way to pretend and show off that she is different to the “ordinary” person in her vlogs 🙄 and that she is the perfect casalinga as you say!

Can’t bring myself to watch the Year of Joy yet😬

I would save yourself the time and not bother either! two things which really stuck out to me from it were - one thing, the fact she doesn't use contractions, it makes her english sound so bizarre and foreign; the second, at one point towards the end of that video she is talking about not appealing to all companies to work with and then (unless i missed something) segues into making it about a partner with "and not every partner is going to want to spend a lifetime with you, or be sexually attracted to you.."seemed really random to me

So ignorant and rude!!! 🤣 As Kylie told that Mimma Brontola person who mentioned the same issues. Ahahaha.

The weird exchange I mentioned was her getting a pour of red wine and obviously declining. If it weren't such a big deal she could have kept it rather than exchanging for sparkling water. It was as if she highlighted it.

ahh okay! totally missed that, that is bizarre, why bother leaving that in when she could have more space in for how children today are so awful and how families spend no time together  I live in London and had that whole video been set in a garden rather than the tuscan countryside I would have seen very little difference in the children of my friends on a sunny day

Agh she has so many strings to her bow that I got confused and have possibly incorrectly referred to her as an award winning journalist when in an article she describes herself as an award winning editor before moving to Italy, and it was too late to edit my post.
I’m a bit confused though because I think I have seen somewhere that she has called herself an award winning journalist but then I couldn’t find it so felt the need to correct my self 🤷🏻‍♀️ I guess she was quite young when writing this article but still it must have been later on in her Australian writing career? I haven’t read that much of her writing so not sure what the rest is like to be honest

Hi @Tdrinker Kylie worked in public relations in Australia, she is not a real journalist or editor except at a casino publication and a ‘what’s on’ blog. She freelanced a bit, but unsuccessfully as her ‘writing’ is always centred on promoting herself. It is Kylie that refers to herself as an ‘award-winning editor, publisher and journalist’ (!) - it is just not true. She copied the title from someone else (who really is) in Rome🤭

who is the guy in this vlog?

"lots of people aren't spontaneous they pay their taxes, they work in an office..." this is pretty telling, 100% she has her accounts based in monaco, I cannot think of anyone who would phrase this sentence like this

@emm it’s a guy she did a project with in Rome who is one of her exes. Agree it’s weird to post a vlog she did ages ago while she is with Guido. Yes maybe it was to make him jealous🙄

By the way, what’s with the puffy hair and headband?! Not a good look but she’s keeping it up in Tuscany😅

it seems like everyone (male) she has worked with has either become/ was a boyfriend before! I would love to be broke like her/him managing an almost bankrupt magazine (honestly who in 2019/2020 would launch a magazine?!) but be able to book an impulse flight to morocco

@Antonio. I think it's all about cultivating a 'vintage' 1950s look. https://www.insider.com/trying-50s-hairstyles-tutorial-photos-2020-4

It's 'Golden Age Thinking' as Kylie is very attracted to past times

Omg yes I have just seen your previous posts on this! 😯 if this is the case then for someone who I think wants fame, then you would think that she would know that these discrepancies would rise to the surface at some point...
