Fraus I have misremembered. It’s wasn’t Boris’s pants 🤢 it was the governments (who Boris lead at that time). The councillor who taped it laughed but we saw the size of the room, they weren’t laughing.

credit to OG Frau Sideboob borb for the link, please watch all the way through, mithering follows on the thread which is all about Jack being 45mins late to Conference (Labour. She turned upon time for the Tory one, obvs) after which she went for a refreshing pint of Orange soda with everyone

This may only be relevant to people of a certain age, but a few of us from varying occupations were having a witch the other day that everyone now is some sort of "label". Whether it's allergy, gender identity, politics that make Hitler look normal etc. There is something.

When I was a kid it was all fairly straight forward. You got on a jet you weren't told that someone was allergic to peanuts, oxygen and sunlight so you have to starve and sit in the dark for the whole flight. You didn't spend the entire day walking on eggshells in case you accidentally call someone by the wrong pronoun. Or you don't get coffee chucked at you because they overhear you say something that politically they don't like.

They were simpler times....
Only for people who don’t need, or have, a label 😐😐

Oh I dunno, I think humans have always had an urge to adopt a chosen identity to make sure they're part of a group. 30 years ago it would've been football teams, or Goth / Punk / Mod / Rocker.

400 years ago it might've been Catholic / Protestant (more recently in some parts). 1,800 years ago it was probably whether you believed in Christ or Woden.

So I think that part has always been a thing, what I guess is maybe a bit more recent is a minority of individuals adopting lots of protected identities in order to place themselves above criticism. And in fact I reckon people have been doing that for a long time too, only now it's easier to get caught out because we leave such a huge trail on the internet.

You can eat your peanuts, but if someone reacts there’s an onboard emergency, you don’t get any service whilst the crew deal with it. The plane may have to divert and you will be delayed and stranded for a time. Or it may not, but the medical crew and ambulance take the patient off first so you’re delayed.
your choice - delay or just…don’t eat peanuts

Im really fed up at the moment -as a disabled person- coming up with strategies which will enable me to function in society, shop, interact, socialise, eat etc and then because you’ve asked for x y z small adjustment, allowance you’re told no.
Able bodied people don’t want to have to make the effort. They don’t see the point. You’re asking too much. It’s an inconvenience that you even take their time asking.

I think you are probably right. I'm not all that politically correct (stop laughing whoever that was) so I tend to pick up on this stuff. Even our kids comment on something that's gone on at school because of some protected characteristic or whatever and are looking at me or the OH to make it make sense.

And the Internet has without a doubt made it more "fashionable" for people to adopt all these labels and identities. And if it helps them grift........

I know. The wife works for a big airline. That was just an example. My (badly) made point was that it never seemed to be a thing many many moons ago. And now every other person is allergic to something

The internet has really opened my eyes to the extent of the problem. Before then I thought these attention seekers were rare. It's upsetting to realise there are so many of them out there.

The strangest ones are the people who pretend to be another race/ethnicity for attention. It's so messed up. There's a woman called Natalia Ivend (not her real name) who pretended to be Romani.

Extract from a blog post about her:

One such incident happened recently, when a language video titled ‘Romanichal’ was uploaded to well-known Youtube channel, Wikitongues. The video; produced and created by Natalie Winter, aka Natalia Ivend, also known as “Julie A” or “Nataliaki”, was born into a wealthy stockbroking family, raised in affluent London, and currently resides in Devon England. Soon after the video began to circulate it became a topic of great concern for many, as it appeared Ms. Winters had taken several elements of our Romani dialects from various sources and presented it to the public via Wikitongues as an “extremely archaic dialect” to which she is the “last known speaker of”.
Picturing some idiot larping about like this 😂

And again you have made the point better than I ever could.

By adopting all these identities and allergies and duck knows what else, it becomes the norm and an eye roll whereas good.people.like you who genuinely have to live with things suffer because others jump on the bandwagon

Jack definitely abuses the good will afforded to groups that are regarded as vulnerable by identifying as a member, I don't think that can be extrapolated to 'it's all bullshit' as a blanket sentiment about everything and everyone, not in a world where you can cop tit off strangers in the street for purely existing never mind actually being noticeably different.

The bandwagon ers like Jack of course are a problem and are co-opting identities and labels.
Some would say that people like Jack make it harder for those who really are disabled etc
I would argue that the “average person on the street” couldn’t give a flying f about adjustments for others disabilities, or preferred pronouns etc and people like Jack are a convenient get-out for the “average person” to say “ah everyone wants something or other and people only ask for things because they’re so spwecial” because ultimately the average person is biased and doesn’t care.
---
No. Its people adopting it for clout/grift/special treatment!
Exactly. How do you tell them apart. Peanut allergy can be fatal.

But see they should! If someone has a genuine need for something to be adapted the laws of physics shiukd be rewritten to allow them to life without issue. My (badly made) point was there are so many bandwagon jumpers now that it devalues people with genuine issues who deserves every effort to be made for them

People with life threatening but inconvenient to others allergies have always existed, disabled people have always existed .trans people have always existed , gay/bi/pan people have always existed, neurodiverse people have always existed etc etc . It’s just more visible these days especially with social media . Doesn’t always mean people are jumping on a trend or using their identity to grift .Sometimes it’s just us being us .

And as I've just said to Hotes who I respect on here as they talk a lot of sense, therein lies the problem.

Edit: And you should be free to be yourself without the fear of someone like JM co-opting whatever condition in order to shield herself/get special treatment etc

Oh, and nobody with a genuine condition is an inconvenience to anyone!

Life is harder when you're in a group that faces prejudice or disadvantages - and that's why no one wants guest latching onto that identity, honking about it like she's an expert and using it for attention or to excuse the grift
