The only thing remotely true about this is "I'll keep writing sarky backchat". She might need a "bump" of some kind, but not a fistbump, that's for sure. 🙄❄

She really is completely without morals isn't she?
Her response to her Kickstarter backers is worse and I urge everyone who hasn't seen it, to go back to threads 3& 4 and take a look.

Summary: she wanted to raise £8k on Kickstarter to self publish a new cook book. This was shortly after she split from Leggy. She got such a huge response of ordinary, well-meaning people, she ended up getting £70k. She said the book would be delivered to backers within a year, there would be a launch party, dinner with her for the biggest donors, extra treats and content.

Then....NOTHING. Backers started sending her messages, all extremely polite at first, asking for updates. Still nothing. Then gradually some people started to ask for their money back - there is a heartbreaking post from an elderly disabled man and his wife who donated money they could ill afford because they thought the book would help the poorest in society. No response from Jack. This was 2017 so all the time she was posting on Twitter and Insta, thot shots, chatting about award ceremonies, how great she was, and generally living the high life. Not a word to her Kickstarter backers tho. THEN she actually found a commercial publisher for her book and.....IT APPEARED FOR SALE ON AMAZON BEFORE THE ORIGINAL BACKERS HAD EVEN RECIEVED THEIR COPIES.

Naturally the backers got angry. In response, Jack posted a lengthy message using the same narc script we've all come to know and love which basically went:

- I'm sorry about the delay. I'm very mentally fragile, nasty break up and am living in a damp flat
- I'm working on the book but it's difficult to type due to my arthritic fingers
- I lost the first draft in an 'unfortunate incident' (does not specify further) Please stop bullying me, my heart hurts....suicide bait
- You can have the money back if you like....but it's such a beautiful book and will help so many people! You'll love it when you get it
- You've waited for so long....you wouldn't want to let me down right at the last moment.....would you?

This is actually a person who behaves disgustingly.

Frauen, I'm sorry to disrupt the thread, drop something and go, but I was mithering about laughing at the very early threads and thought it was important to remind ourselves of the below.

To summarise: Jack demanded donations at the start of lockdown on the basis that lockdown would cause her to lose money. Clear implication being that donations was the only thing that stood between her and destitution. This despite: she was living with a C4 executive; she had the BBC DKL gig; she was living in a 3 bed house in a lovely part of Southend. She clearly implies that she will use the money to launch a big campaign to help people in need during lockdown: WHICH NEVER HAPPENED. This is a time when hard working people DID lose their small businesses and go broke. Not our Jack.

The highly manipulative tone of this post is so similar to the DM she was sending wavering backers...and also the posts she made to the Kickstarter backers of her self-published book who had been waiting for years when she raised £70k and was ignoring their requests for updates whilst she titted about playing the big celeb on twitter and then accused her cheated backers of bullying HER...she has been playing this wicked narc game for years. So if anyone ever tells you we're obsessed, or we're mean girls, or we're trolls yada yada....just show them this.

Did we ever have Simply the Guest as thread title? I can't recall if it was just suggested. Feels like it's What Tina Would Have Wanted

Excuse you!! She went to Africa once and forgot how to use cutlery!

Just saying hello.

I'm new here but have been circling like a vulture for some time. The JM threads are like life's blood to me. Came for the goss, stayed for the witty thread titles and the pure joy of the company. Probably won't post much (for a while, anyway) but wanted to greet you all. Am ridiculously excited . . . :p

Throwback to one of guest's less well remembered blog posts just because it's funny: I gave up my smartphone for a Nokia 3310 and radically changed my life. Warning for mentions of rape and the uncensored N-word and R-word, Jack doesn't warn for these in the post itself.

Summary:
  • Jack went to the cinema with her girlfriend - this is from October 2017 so she was dating LJC at the time
  • She checked her blog and saw she was getting death threats and being called the N-word in comments on a recipe for mashed potato. Seemingly she had managed to offend that most niche yet dangerous of groups: blind racists
  • She then decided to ditch her smartphone and buy a cute yellow Nokia (non-smart. Stupid phone?) that reminded her of the one on which she wrote her first book
  • From then on she started using the Nokia, her smartphone relegated to a modem for her laptop or to check Twitter whilst on the loo. I know she's full of shit, but surely not that much that she was on the loo every time
  • Subsequently she started sleeping better, her personal relationships improved, and she began writing more and becoming creative. Also her alcoholism was miraculously cured and she started taking a pot of camomile tea to bed instead of whiskey. Why you would do that when the tea will go cold, the caffeine will keep you awake, and the fluid will make you pee all night is beyond me
  • She felt "awake, alive, heel-kicking umbrella-swinging Broadway-musical good"
  • She laments that she felt suicidal - yes, THAT again - after receiving online abuse, and compares giving up her smartphone to ending an abusive relationship. Complains about internet service providers and the Government not doing enough to regulate online content
  • And shares a photo that was taken with the smartphone
Why doesn't she come out with stuff like this any more? At least it'd give us a laugh

Poor Jack was rather unwell in December 2016 and hadn’t been for some time so she enlisted help with the kickstarter.

🙄

Incidentally, the kickstarter is still there so you can read her posts and the increasingly frustrated responses from her backers if you have an hour or two and want to remind yourself what a scamming scammer she is

I was mithering about her newspaper thingy where she was going to take families shopping, and how affronted she was when it was suggested she was pitching the idea. They asked her alright haterz?

I had read most this before I think. But it does serve as a timely reminder of how she's never changed, and trots out the same old tactics every time she's caught out. Just like the December/January "I know I've been awful but I'm going to make up to you, sincerely, Jack Monroe" grovel on Patreon that she STILL hasn't lifted a finger to rectify.

Didn't the same thing happen again on Kickstarter (or on another crowd funder platform) for another book as well? So many scams I really am losing track!
The "I know I've been awful but I'm going to make up to you..." Patreon grovel was actually in October last year.

She showed her 14-seater dining table covered in rewards, which she claimed were about to be posted, on October 31st. And then she told Shattenstone in mid-December that they had been posted. She made the same claim on Twitter just before christmas. And then on the 7th January, she admitted that they hadn't been sent in December after all (blaming striking postal workers) but said they had now "all been sent" - although she hinted that expectant recipients shouldn't hold their breaths due to the aftermath of the strikes.

And since then? Nothing. We've found no-one who says they received anything, and several people who were subscribers at the relevant times who've said they received nothing.

It's been almost 8 months since she posted that grovel, and in that time she should have made 7 more Patreon posts containing discount codes, and sent 6 further batches of physical rewards out. In reality, she has done neither.

Her supporters are getting restless. She's dropped from 659 subscribers at the start of November to 430 today - an estimated loss of £3,233 a month. Some have tried complaining to Patreon, but they try to avoid blame, telling subscribers to seek refunds from the creator.

We know about one person who did eventually manage to get their money back - but only after a great deal of persistence in the face of Jack's "your email must have gone missing, can you resend it" lies and other forms of prevarication. Another took their fruitless search for a refund to the courts. A CCJ was granted against Jack, but she still hasn't paid up. Other subscribers have been forced to simply write off the loss.

And yet her Patreon still remains open for business.

Whatever it is, that's a lot of house for one person to live in alone and a bargain at the price. Some might say peppercorn rent. Not me, because I know the meaning of words.

You can eat your peanuts, but if someone reacts there’s an onboard emergency, you don’t get any service whilst the crew deal with it. The plane may have to divert and you will be delayed and stranded for a time. Or it may not, but the medical crew and ambulance take the patient off first so you’re delayed.
your choice - delay or just…don’t eat peanuts

Im really fed up at the moment -as a disabled person- coming up with strategies which will enable me to function in society, shop, interact, socialise, eat etc and then because you’ve asked for x y z small adjustment, allowance you’re told no.
Able bodied people don’t want to have to make the effort. They don’t see the point. You’re asking too much. It’s an inconvenience that you even take their time asking.

I was a Kickstart backer (my copy has long gone to the great recycling bin in the sky) and I am ashamed to say that I was completely taken in by her woe-is-me messages and very nearly replied to her to say ignore the haterz, I’m happy to wait.

Send harder heartios.

I have since seen the light though.

The messages she posted on Kickstarter, and the dms Lyn said it’s fine to share, and various tweets all reveal what a manipulative shyster she is.
When you’re “in it” with her, believing her guff, each little escalation seems believable - ouchy arthritis, wheezy chest infection, using a stick to hobble to the post box, nefarious trolls, threats, bad mentals.
To a total outsider, if you come in at the part where the smol sickly pixie is dialled right up, you look at it and go “what a crank!” Writing labels with arthritic fingers for thousands of envelopes, who does that?is she stupid?”
For the people “in it” I think the large volume of “need cash/send casho’s” and “smol ouchy can’t do it/ also you’re all bullies asking me to deliver what you paid for” could be a silver bullet
It's all part of what is, to me, an astonishingly clear pattern.

The Kickstarter that went more than 8.5x over target, but which produced substandard work and had to be followed up with an additional beg for postage.
The lockdown begging to support a new project which never materialised.
Suggesting that she would like to crowdfund for a house.
The ongoing Patreon scam, together with her lies about having sent rewards and avoidance of paying refunds.
The VBI, with associated tip jar rattle to support the team she said she had put together to do the work that never appeared.
The Sue Lee scandal, with tens or hundreds of thousands in donations unaccounted for.
The HH2 tip jar rattle, based on lies about melting soap and solar light bulbs when she was bringing in an estimated £8,922 a month from Patreon alone.

People make excuses for her, and say that she's just disorganised and that there was no deliberate deceit or intent to defraud. I say the opposite: no-one could act like that by accident. She knows exactly what she's done, and what she's continuing to do.

This may only be relevant to people of a certain age, but a few of us from varying occupations were having a bitch the other day that everyone now is some sort of "label". Whether it's allergy, gender identity, politics that make Hitler look normal etc. There is something.

When I was a kid it was all fairly straight forward. You got on a jet you weren't told that someone was allergic to peanuts, oxygen and sunlight so you have to starve and sit in the dark for the whole flight. You didn't spend the entire day walking on eggshells in case you accidentally call someone by the wrong pronoun. Or you don't get coffee chucked at you because they overhear you say something that politically they don't like.

They were simpler times....
My reply to this might get long and it's not directly on topic so I'll spoiler it. *Potentially upsetting content WARNED*

I’m sure we have common ground in thinking that anyone who uses their labels/identities for attention or to evade criticism is a twat. And anyone who pretends to be part of a marginalised group is betraying people’s trust and doing a lot of damage to that community.

However, these ‘protected characteristics’ are more than just identifying with a subculture or something you try on like a fashion. They’re intrinsic to who you are. For example: I’m bisexual. I didn’t choose that label or seek out the identity – it’s simply the most accurate description of who I am already. The same would've been true had I been living in 1850. It’s really not a big deal!

For a lot of newly-diagnosed ADHD & autism folks, having these labels is hugely important because previously they’d never had the language to describe their experiences. These are people who’ve spent most of their lives, especially in school & work environments, being told that they are somehow ‘wrong’ and need to change to fit their surroundings. The growing body of medical/psychological knowledge adds to the overall understanding of these diagnoses, so that the environments can be adjusted to fit them for once. An accurate diagnosis should feel like a sigh of relief where you go ‘finally, that’s what this is called!’ So this is why I don’t think the labels themselves are trivial.

What you might see as an increase in (over)sensitivity or political correctness could be viewed as an increase in understanding and respect. Political correctness is concerned with politeness and avoiding offense, but imo the important concept is justice. It would be a mistake to call justice or respect 'political correctness'.

Take the examples you gave about pronouns and allergies: you’re thinking about your personal comfort on a flight. But a woman with a peanut allergy was left permanently brain damaged after a flight where peanuts were eaten. With pronouns, your concern is that you need to walk on eggshells to avoid causing offense. Meanwhile, earlier this year, a trans teenager was murdered by her classmates and then misgendered deliberately in the newspapers. The point I’m making is that the stakes are very different here – slight inconvenience vs. serious harm.

Unfortunately, these ‘simpler times’ were only simpler if you had the advantage of being a straight, white able-bodied man or someone in a position of relative privilege. Anyone else had to put up with varying degrees of discrimination, lack of awareness, inferior or inappropriate medical care, being denied jobs, lack of social support, being the punchline of jokes, and worse. Now these groups have a louder voice and can say 'hey, we've always been harmed by this and now you need to change' but there's a lot of resistance by individuals who've never had to notice how their behaviours and attitudes affected others. Having your needs catered to because you're considered by society to be 'default' and 'the average' is a luxury. It's also a luxury when you can go through life unaffected by issues that hinder so many demographics.

It can feel as though all these people with labels in their Twitter bios are coming out of nowhere to harass you, but there are a few factors to consider here:

-Increased public awareness
-Improvements in diagnosis and identification
-Reduced stigma

All these things lead to an increase in the number of people with a specific label - trans, autistic, whatever else. It doesn't mean there's bandwagon-jumping happening on a large scale.

Finally, campaigns centered around specific identities serve some important purposes:

-A way of organising for positive change, be that in attitudes, stigma reduction, better services or policy.
-Mutual aid and support. Mental illness and disability can be extremely isolating, so flags and symbols are a means of finding and connecting with like-minded people. In the past, there would have been loads of poor individuals sitting at home wondering wtf was the matter with them. Now they can go online and find their people.
-Pride. The idea behind pride events (and wider movements like BLM) isn't to revel in victimhood or to let one characteristic define your whole being. The point is empowerment, to make people feel supported and valued even when society at large doesn't treat them well.

*None of my trans friends will be offended if it’s a genuine mistake! They’re a friendly bunch and will probably just correct you and move on. @stunrw is marked safe from Big Linda. 😝

I bet you need a drink after reading that, tendertrifles. Big apologies. Rant mode was activated. Won't happen again.

Found myself balls deep in that frightful Mrs Gloss FB group last night (terrifying). How is this the face/caption of someone who doesn’t like attention? Also, I saw it so now you have to too. The arrogance! Queen Debbie Harry should not be mentioned in the same breath as guest.

I also borderline strained my sphincter beyond repair at the thought of her doing the hair, makeup, and doing multiple O faces in front of the tripod.
