Ah, duck, those recipes are awful. And their intros!

I eat my hat if an Italian friend 'laughed and affectionately nicknamed it la zuppa di uno sciocco', because that's not grammatically correct in Italian. I suspect her Italian friend is google translate. Should be 'la zuppa di un sciocco'.

ETA: It's Con Te Partito all over again.
Sorry to jump in but uno is correct for words beginning with s + consonant (Italian graduate here 🔺)

Yeah, nah, that’s offensive. Got some facts wrong, too.
Aye, not a fan of that writer at all, referring to Caitlyn Jenner by her previous name. Be critical all you want about Jack Monroe, but in this space there is an agreement (as far as i can tell) not to refer to her by her old name.
Crab paste mixed with passata? Ewwwwww.

Also, I'm not forensic maths genius like Jack, but doesn't this costing make frozen onions literally double the price of fresh ones? Yet Jack describes that as "ever so slightly more expensive".

Things being more expensive is only important when it's value range pasta that she can tweet about.

This puts it as baldly in the press as I've ever seen it I think - specifically stating the drunk/spending/tramadol money was donated by the public, and was intended to support her work. And the FT too 😬
If that is not true (it is) that is the sort of thing you would think she should be litigious over.

Appearing in the FT is serious. They have the investigative journalists that have exposed some of the biggest financial frauds in recent times.

How do you finely slice a bollock sausage? They’re just paste inside.
If you have any of your childs toys kicking about that haven't been sold for solar lights whisky or tramadol, you could just pop them in one of these, sweet cheeks x

Erm lol I’m watching Saturday Kitchen Best Bites and Lisa Faulkner is being shown around an underground farm which is under the SK studio by the guy with the airbrushed potato face who accompanied Jack to Arcade Fire…

There isn't anything new or interesting in the Sunday Express Grifty supplement - I've attached it behind the spoiler below for completeness.

They haven't even named her on the front page advertising it! 🤭

That is grim. The humble sausages recipe, for example, reads like a first draft and has at least one formatting error. And, as previously pointed out, the lemon and rosemary roast potatoes don't have any rosemary in them.

Eta - and some of the photos don t even seem to relate to The recipes.

The whole world knows Jack is a bone idle grifter who has put zero effort in to this book (except for the photoshoots, Jack loves a photoshoot) over the 2 years she has taken to produce it. All the budget seems to have been spent on nice shiny paper and none on editing or proof reading.

The publishers must have known how tit this book is - is it some kind of tax write off thing?

What a great mum she is. Splash out "£300" a time on drunk sideboards, but spend not a penny on piano lessons for her son.
7 years of being drunk and frivolous. 7 years. Just proves what a comfortable MC privileged woman she is. If she was working class pissin it all up the wall for 7 years you'd be destitute, homeless or your kid in care.

Her recipes are aimed at people who can’t cook. Like me. I can’t look at at a list of ingredients and a method and see that it’s not going to work. If I then made the recipe I would think it tasted like shite because I can’t cook, not because the recipe is a load of cack, like my attempt at the peach and chickpea curry a few years ago. It wasn’t indelible, it was just bland as duck.
I am sure this is the reason she has had any success with her books.
Luckily my OH does the cooking and hardly ever sticks faithfully to a recipe because he knows what works.

Hilarious. Now she's bloody Chopin. Is there no end to her talents?!

Love the fact that she feels the need to state she used SECONDHAND BOOKS thank you, as well as her masterful, musical ears because she can't bloody afford the lessons due to her 49 boxes of books and 32 sideboards, ok?
There's no beginning to them

Hold on, so is this suggesting that Jack was part of a Tory think tank? 😬 much socialism
They chose a nice photo of her

ETA - it’s a cross party thing but I’m guessing her role is this…yep loads of experience

Coming back to this because those recipes make me feel sick, what relevance is her very limited experience from 10 years’ ago anyway? The benefits system has completely changed since then. It’s about as useful as her Lucca restaurant suggestions

Well I will say she has some skill - it’s quite a feat to write that many words about a recipe which is basically mix some prawns with ready made cocktail sauce and fry a bit of grapefruit

OMG is cooking bacon a thing? I’ve just cooked bacon but the packet didn’t specify. Am I going to STOP BREATHING?
Cooking bacon is a pack of offcuts from proper bacon. It's moist and stuffed with loads of little bits of gammon and smoked bacon and unsmoked bacon. Sometimes you get a pack and the bits are great, fry them up, sling them in a chilli or bolognese, or mix them in with scrambled eggs etc.
Sometimes you get a pack and the contents are only for either the bin or a Monroe sloppy slapdash recipes.

You can guess how good it is by the fact it's 85p for 500g. 🤪

Well then, Jack. It’s safe to talk about the recipes now. They’re a pile of tit. Which ones would you say you’re most proud of? Two years of ‘work’ for this poorly constructed, miserable section of unworkable, tasteless recipes. Hilarious 😆

Seafood sauce is literally just mayo and ketchup, plus whatever amount of tabasco, worcestershire sauce, lemon juice you fancy! It's the condiment version of puttanesca! You're meant to be able to easily make it from cupboard ingredients! It's more wasteful and expensive to buy pre-mixed stuff!

Also the idea of grilled *tinned* grapefruit is genuinely distressing.

EDIT: I also regularly make prawn cocktail for my family (🍉🦐) and that recipe is the biggest faff I've ever seen. All you need for a good prawn cocktail are big fat prawns, seafood sauce, and lettuce and maybe avocado for the salad, served with a wedge of lemon. It should take 10 minutes to make, tops, it should be simple.
I regularly make it too. The ingredients are 1 x Tesco ready made prawn cocktail in seafood sauce, 1 lemon, pre chopped iceberg 🤣 but I put it in a fancy glass bowl so it looks like I tried harder than I did 😂

I don’t think Jack has ever cooked half her recipes. Just lifted & modified to make them cheaper (worse). Edits and re edits my arse. She’s knocked that book out in less than a day but she’s procrastinated for two years. I mean she couldn’t even be arsed to steal 250 recipes from the original brief!
