Hmm. Singing style has changed a bit... got to say I think I preferred the ‘rough’ version

ok. That's it. I am OFFICIALLY OFFENDED.
Kirsty was (is) my absolute hero. duck of Jack. And then duck of some more

Hmm. Singing style has changed a bit... got to say I think I preferred the ‘rough’ version

oh yeah, whilst I'm on one....

Billy Bragg is the ultimate class traitor. Champagne socialist doesn't even come close. Saw an article in an interior design magazine about his mansion. When I say 'mansion' I mean bleeping castle.

Also Jack, what is with bizarre mockney accent? You sound like 'That Man'

79p bacon. For a 90% vegan she sure does like cheap, low welfare meat products doesn't she?

In that video she actually comes across a reasonably likeable and I can see why so many people were taken in by her. She’s young, fresh-faced, a bit rough round the edges (but in a very middle-class, mum took me to ballet clahhses dahling way) & at no point starts a pity party (or if she did the guardian cut it out). If she’d built on that, really worked on her public persona and developed as a person, she could have been very good. Unfortunately she didn’t grow up or change with the times. She just acquired more money, more stuff and a bigger chip on her shoulder with each passing year.

Long time lurker, first time poster. Had no intention of ever posting and just made the account so I could see the receipts (hence the rubbish username) then some of your posts were just too good not to like/react to but since @GrunkaLunka (I think) so nicely asked how we all the new people found this thread I wanted to reply.

So I first discovered Jack when she was first being featured in the guardian and A Girl Called Jack came out (let’s be honest I’m a fairly middle class young female lefty who was a student around the time so basically her target market). I got her first book (there were no memorable recipes in it). Followed her on twitter since (until I unfollowed during the pandemic due to her behaviour) but never really actively engaged with her.

Up until a few months ago I only considered her to be ‘a bit melodramatic’ and rolled my eyes a fair bit at her many many medical conditions that were oh so very significant but not very consistent and soon forgotten about. Was slightly irritated when she went from being ‘vegan’ to suddenly eating animals again (she was never vegan, she was plant-based for a few months if that). At the beginning of the year when she was posting those singing videos I’m ashamed to admit that I was taken in (in a bad way though-I actually pitied her and I even messaged some encouragement to her). At the beginning of the pandemic I was vaguely aware of her throwing tantrums at JO but was very BUSY at the time (triangulate that I work for the NHS 🤣) so didn’t pay much attention & didn’t watch DKL at the time.

I found you guys probably at about thread 34 (it was a couple of threads after she’d shown up-I then grunkad thread 31 onwards) and have avidly lurked, liking posts since. I must admit I found you because of a combination of my years of eye-rolling at her and the fact that I’m a nosey cow who found it very strange that she suddenly stopped mentioning ‘Mrs J’. I expected you all to be a bit bitchy and below the belt (dare I say it I also thought you’d all be right wing, possibly transphobes etc) & had no intention of spending hours reading your posts.

But I found that you cabal of haus fraus are the best. I’ve followed along for the various dramas Jack’s created over the last few weeks. I’ve laughed out loud (literally) at some of your posts, have loved your insightful, analytic thoughts on class, food, Jack’s purchases and everything else you’ve discussed. I was taken by how bloody kind you all are. Jack’s tweets are so bloody triggering at times and the kindness you’ve all shown to each other, the addition of spoilers etc have really touched me. I’ve been eye-rolling at Jack’s tweets for years and down-right appalled by her behaviour lately (you guys have really helped me see it as I’m not nocturnal so have previously missed them all and just found the ‘this tweet is unavailable’). Thank you for all your receipts, for making me laugh, making me think & for generally making her debacles less triggering and more amusing!

For triangulation purposes: I’m middle class (& not ashamed of it unlike Jack). Probably lower middle class, dad has WC roots. Still renting despite having worked a damn sight harder than Jack has & that’s fine. Sorry this was longer than I expected <insert gif of grandpa Simpson yelling at cloud>.

Not sure if i did the quotes right...but I had to finally step out of the shadows too and say hi 🙋‍♀️ because your post could almost have been written by me!

One of the main differences is that I have been lurking since thread 2, and have kept up more or less ever since. It's been almost a full time job...for which I have had to, at times, neglect my actual full time job (but this has been far more interesting, that's for sure!).

You are such an intelligent, articulate, hilarious and empathic cabal, and although we have never actually spoken I feel like I have been on this whole journey together with you and it really has gotten me through lockdown.

I don't plan to post much but I wanted to say hello and send my love to you all 😍. I am also lurking in the Food and Dick/Drinks thread (getting there via Downing Street was quite the ride 😂) and might pop up there too if I get the time.

This is the most Guardian-esque video I've ever seen (and I say this as someone who looks at the Guardian news site lmao - if you can't roast yourself how the hell you gunna roast someone else).

When Billy Bragg says Gawd Bless ya... does he think he's Tiny Tim or what 😂

Listening just now to Out to Lunch with Jay Rayner, and he and Grayson Perry (who I love!) talk about class. It’s a great podcast, even without the class stuff
Ah yes, love these podcasts, sure it was him I listened to with Kathy Burke, it was a lovely, really funny chat.

Just hovering in background at the moment, was dreaming about the kitten, thanks to all for the spoilers, really want to punch JM's lights out. Very much enjoying the class discussion 🙂 (way behind as usual 🤣)

I reckon she couldn't give a rat's arse what or when the kid eats as long as he's not "wittering on" about his books or interrupting her naps. Fair play to her for not plastering his life onto her social media (surprising, really) but when she does mention him it's usually not all that nice 🤔

I am this close to driving to Thorpe Bay and taking that kitten off her.

Jack, what you are doing is called animal abuse. I will be ringing your nearest RSPCA branch tomorrow to report you. They may or may not be able to intervene but it's worth a shot. I cannot stand to see that defenceless animal suffering for your warped vanity.

Btw good evening, dear cabal. I am beside myself with anger at her disgusting behaviour but I want to give everyone here a massive long-distance hug XX

The funny thing is, if she had evolved away from the dubious origins story and embraced her true & final formation, none of us would be here now? We’d have nothing to talk about if she was just doing big brand deals with Hellman’s etc and embracing the fact she’s cushty?

The cat pics are bleeping vile, she’s doing these for the back story’s photo montage when she has her supervet moment 🤮

I only went on insta to look up ptwm and this came up. I wish she would give trigger warnings.
baby wearing the bleeping kitten again. I'm pretty sure it's not contented. I'm still so angry about this.View attachment 179748
I have never owned a kitten therefore I don’t understand why she has to have it in a sling all the time? Is there a reason??
When my dog was a tiny puppy, I tied one of my long scarfs to make a sling for him when we took him out before he had his jabs, so he could be socialised. But he never was in it in the house. All I can think of is how uncomfortable it must be for the poor thing, especially with its issues 😢.
Is she doing it because it’s been took away from its mum too early (it’s never 10 wks old) and the vets advised her to do this, as she hadn’t done it before the vets (bar the ridiculous inside a hoody pocket). Or is it to protect it from Cooper? Maybe all’s not good with having a new kitty in his territory??? I just don’t get it.

The kitten in the sling thing is just dumb. Calling it ‘babycat’
It’s not her baby, it’s an animal. And it’s probably really uncomfortable shoved up in that sling. You’re a bleeping clown, Jackie.

And, Christ - why does she always preface cooking for SB with ‘I was so exhausted, but I used my last dregs of energy to make him a condiment-sized bowl of slop.’ Newsflash, you’re not the only single mum having to think of things to cook every night - but I bet you’re the only one in close radius with three fridges, Viv Westwood dresses (god rest her), and an Emin hanging on the wall.

Cook him something nice. ‘Rind of a cheese’ - I know rinds like Parmesan can be used for flavour, but it sounds gross here.

Please, keep this non-recipe under lock and key in your Bermuda Triangle headvoid 😂

A long winded comparison to draw but hear me out: the tone of it is very Church choir isn’t it?
‘Weird old mum church choir’ 😂 YES.

On one of those ridiculous Hellman nightmares I saw today - she disappeared off camera to check on him and to tell him to be quiet for 45 minutes. Fair enough - Mummy is working. I get that. Almost!
But I am convinced she locked the door on her return into the dining studio?
To me that’s scary. Locks on doors, with small children in the house, rings alarm bells in my ears.

no, i give up. What is this please? 🤢
That, my dear Frau, was chicken drumsticks (I recall not browned off) cooked in a hellscape of sludge, which was Jackie’s reverse engineer of her dad’s Chinese-style chicken curry. And a load of frozen peas for texture.

Which, turns out, was from a jar when her dad made it. Wonderful anecdote.

Good point. When I first began to have misgivings, it also struck me how few apparent witnesses there are to much of the history that shapes her narrative, other than SB when he was too young to remember. A lot of drama and back up for her various claims also happen in her private DMs - the 100s of schools that contacted her in the wake of the DW non-scandal etc. Not saying they didn’t happen, m’lud, but I found it disconcerting even back when I was a fan:oops: (let’s never speak of that again😅).
The thing that gets me here is the arrogance. I'm pretty sure that librarians and school teachers know more about children's books than she does! And even if you did want more advice on having diverse content, why would you message a food writer who only just found about David Walliams books?
