Also - yes he's trending, but the top tweet is her original with just 7.1k likes & scrolling through 'top' there aren't any other big ones that I'm seeing, it seems to have largely just opened up a lot of debate? It's not been a huge viral take off, I think it's more indicative of a quiet news day than any real scandal breaking for him tbh. Twitter as a whole is very left leaning & obviously BLM has risen public consciousness anyway so people are discussing it, I don't think this will have any real world repercussions for him.
Personally - before she brands us all right wing trolls rooting for Walliams as I'm certainly not - I don't like the idea of classism/racism/stereotyping in any children's books, obvs. But I also think it's incredibly hard to avoid the inevitable classist/racist/everything-ist socialisation that your children will undergo as part of growing up in Britain, especially if they grow up white, unless you take extreme action and home school/completely 'other' them. Knowledge is compounding and builds layer by layer, kids are gonna be exposed to tit but it's about sitting with them and taking the time to explain the wider social context, why it happens, and why it's not acceptable/in line with your family's values, and your actions as a fam to stop perpetuating those wrongs urselves?
I'd argue that it'd be far more productive to discuss the inclusivity (and authenticity, as she's on it...) of the national curriculum and making swaps for celeb books like his with BAME & other minority group authors to expose kids to a wider range of world views. But again it's JM, why do a Marcus Rashford when you can amplify & criticise images of food parcels with no provenance and say you'll fix it in a sec, but never bother loool.
