The thing is a lot of these people think Jack gives the patreon money directly to foodbanks and actually think she is doing 100hrs volunteering in foodbanks. Even if she was, why should she get paid while others volunteer for free and quietly

It's utterly grotesque, she treats other people's problems like porn, gawping at them and exaggerating what she sees. She's an amoral, ghoulish vampire.

Many of us thought this back in 2020 too. Her behaviour has actually gotten worse since then. She is disgusting in the way she feeds off crisis and suffering.

So that recipe in the book says her “tarkari” is based on a recipe from a local Nepalese restaurant, but she replaced the chicken with black beans and replaced the mango with tinned peaches.
She entirely replaced the two main ingredients. (And I’m not convinced by the spicing either - she actually suggests adding the juice or syrup from the peaches to temper the heat of the curry, but where’s the heat supposed to come from? I don’t think 2 tsp chilli flakes will do it).
She’s just so terrible at this.
Wooh! I get to trot out my favourite Jack lore: that her chickpea peaches curry is actually apricot chicken with substitutes. As I say every time I can (see what I did there?) it tickles my humour so much more than it should tickles my humour.

So this makes twice the fun for me.

This is why I think it's important what AM is doing, putting her tweets in one place where they are easy to find.
I think so many people just see random tweets on their timeline and put 2+2 together in their heads and make 5. If they don't dig deeper they won't see the contradictions, nastiness, and deletions.

Ah that makes sense - because she had been talking to the Marines, I jumped to the conclusion that when they said “where”, they were asking assuming she’d been hurt in the line of duty!

It’s just her being tricksy with her words again I think, they probably simply asked “what happened?” and she’s inflated it in line with her ego
I watched this video eons ago and IMO Jack definitely suggests the servicemen were asking her where she served. That way she could tell the story at TedX with her at the centre while pretending to make others at the centre: aka Jack's MO

I wonder if the squig who asked Jack if she had a professional account to follow as her updates seemed very personal is still following

The people in attendance at that talk probably couldn't tell you where their local JobCentre+ or local foodbank are even located.

She preys on middle class ignorances, they lap up her over exaggerated stories of the evil people against the poors. It's really sickening.

Turns out that when you search American Google for her name, you get a different set of results from the UK.

(No Jack, before you start, the USA contingent doesn’t want you DEAD).

At the time, we thought it bore a striking resemblance to Alan Partridge's poetry

I don't understand why the children have crumpled bus tickets. Where have they been, where are they going 🤔
The crumpled bus tickets were stuffed into their holey shoes, weren't they? Which was confusing, because the shoes were already too small. I can't imagine it'd be comfortable. I prefer to fold my bus tickets gently into shoes, so they curve around my rickety toes. A bit of duct tape on the outside, and I'm good to go.

That might be the comic book character Jack Monroe.
Lol yep, it’s just such an amusingly ridiculous hybrid set of results. I clicked and the Lucifer one’s the TV show, but in further Jack Monroe crossover, this is the episode title that manifested…I think they must have seen her “recipes”.

It makes me sad that people can afford to give to charity, but the money ends up in Jack's grubby mitts.
Me too.

I've got myself a bit upset today when this came up on my timeline.

My lovely mum was a nurse, who had to leave when she married my dad and had us kids, and only went back later when the marriage ban had been lifted and I (the youngest) was in primary school. That meant going from the regular salary of a nurse (not much, but decent money and a job with a certain level of status) to relying on my dad's work in the shipyards. Which really went to tit in the 70s for obvious reasons.

When she wasn't employed, she threw so much into the community and particularly supporting women. She genuinely did the good work (and still does!). So when I read absolute crap like this about a grifting, lying person like Jack getting called a secular saint, it makes me so frustrated because there are people up and down the country (and they're often women) who, like my mum, hold their communities together. They do the difficult and long hours involved in making sure that kids are fed and families are supported. And they don't do it for the horrible, self-serving reasons like Jack does.

Jack wouldn't know the work of the righteous if it slapped her in the face.

I still can't decide which is more fascinating - Jack's delusions of grandeur or the squigs that think she deserves to be paid for her efforts. She's perfected the art of turning herself into a charity over the last 10 years.

I don't deny that she did (at least in the beginning) deserve some sort of recognition for shining a light on poverty in the UK but what is bizarre, is the way that the initial campaigning has been skewed into fund raising for her own gain. That's the issue. That is what is hard to get across to the hundreds of loyal supporters who are merrily handing over their money to the Jack Monroe campaign.

I hope that the AM threads are beginning to plant a seed of doubt. I'm sure that hoop-gate has started a movement for people to take notice of her 'recipes' 🙃 and I'm certain that if she does start to lose respect it will be at her own hands as people start to see more of her controversial/weird rants over on Twitter.

The patreon numbers and follower count is particularly interesting to me and I'm inclined to believe that this is down to people rubber-necking the situation. More and more people are tuning in to see what will happen next. I definitely think she's in a precarious position. The tide is softly, gently turning in Southend-on-Sea.

I think her behaviour and overall arrogance really cranked up a notch after the dayhab spell. Not sure what that says about the 'therapy' she received there 😐.
Just as religion can create monsters when used by disingenuous people for self interested ends, the same can be said of therapy I think

My thoughts after a partial grunk:

The Prima advice section was tit. How hypocritical of Jack to encourage people to continue to buy unnecessary toiletries with "don't forget to value yourself" schtick. I wouldn't resent her brand deals because at least it's a legitimate way of her earning money, but she's such a massive, massive sell out and hypocritical to the extreme.

Her advice to buy reusable pads for the purposes of saving money is bad. They're like £7 each, and you need quite a few of them. The poorest people can't afford £50 or more. Yes, you probably save money in the end but some people don't have £50 to spare, as she who claims to have used socks and newspapers as fanny pads ought to know. Wonder why she didn't add that into her advice. Probably because she knows it's such a ridiculous story that it's not suitable for her Superdrug brand deal.

I personally use cloth pads, because they're more comfortable (my periods are extremely painful), and hold more blood. Also your flow changes for the better, most of it comes out on the toilet. I got them for eco-friendly reasons, but honestly, you have to wash them a lot. You also have to replace them every few years in my experience. I'm not sure how beneficial they are in terms of the environment, although they certainly help reduce landfill waste.

As for her primary school, I'm almost certain I've found it. It's very close to her childhood home. It was a separate junior and infants school in her time, and the junior school was on special measures between March 2007-December 2008 (so not "constantly", and 8-9 years after she left). It is otherwise a good school. 51.8% of kids are eligible for free school meals, compared to 22.5% nationally. Searching the roads that surround it on three sides, there are indeed some properties that are listed as social housing in each of those three roads. I don't know whether or not it's an actual "council estate". But there are blocks of flats and small terraced houses, which is probably enough to make someone who grew up in a 5 bedroom detached house recoil in horror.
Ah dear ninny - Jack answers this in the next line of that verse. For some inexplicable reason these children with rickets used their crumpled bus tickets to stuff the toes of their duct taped shoes. Seriously.
No me neither.

ETA aren't bus tickets really small? Like a large stamp? Why would that help with shoe stuffing?

Extra ETA

I think AM persisting with tweets is working. With her first epic response to the poverty-woe blog, although a small number of tweeters had the courage to like it or comment, most stayed silent and watched as Jack railed and all the Jackals kissed her hoop & bayed for blood. Compare that to now - as noted upthread, searching her handle or ‘Jack Monroe’ is now a real mishmash of fun, with the fanatics significantly reduced, and the numbers of people daring to criticise her - even in direct response- or mock her openly, or bring new intel, way higher and actually in the majority at times. It’s taken time for that momentum to build, and I think Molly’s posting strategy has been a key driver for this. She’s stayed very calm, and showed she means business and will do what it takes to hold that grifting cheat to public account at last.
There's also been an uptick of small anon accounts sharing stuff about Jack or doing parody stuff. As you'd expect quality is variable and I would say they are less FORENSIC and focused than Molly and just jumping on all and every Jack inconsistency but none are what you could call trolls or abusive. Regardless of how you feel about this, go and look at any issue starting to gain traction on Twitter you'll see all kinds of accounts start to spring up that are devoted to it. It's just what happens on that platform. Contrary to what the stans would have you believe I haven't seen anything that looks like a bot yet, once we see bots springing up we'll know it's got really big. Again, don't like it but it just seems to be how Twitter operates. As with most situations, there is no main character here. Tattle won't take Jack down, Molly won't take Jack down, SmellMyHoop286543 won't take Jack down, it'll be enough people saying "hang on a minute" and withdrawing support.
