She's definitely said before that she and her brother don't get on so this is par for the course with Jack. Didn't she claim she'd punched him and he'd made cracks about her being a single parent?
It's hard to tell what the truth is behind Jack's many tales, but I do think her Dad must have been incredibly disappointed/annoyed when she chucked in the job he clearly got her on a whim and the stories she tells about that and the chief must be an absolute humiliation for him. Not that she should have had to stay there if she didn't like it just because he got her the job, but the way she did it seems to have created an absolutely awful situation for both of them - and if there's any truth to the poverty I assume that is the reason she didn't go to them at first.
I didn’t turn out like my parents wanted but I don’t give a crap Spent years justifying why I didn’t apply to Uni in sixth form, then when I finally went a few days after I turned 30, they bleeping moaned about that as well. Neither have anything but bare basic GCSEs, ones never worked a day in her life.
Working single parents have it rough, in general. They do all the sick days, which makes them “unreliable”, daycare is only available 8-6, weekdays, (if you’re lucky, in my hometown there are no nurseries/childminders, no after school clubs), everyone assumes you have an army of family to “step in” (most don’t) and ex’s are useless.
Hence why I had to leave work 10 years ago with a 3 and 1 year old in tow and go on benefits because I just couldn’t bleeping do it. And why I moved 7 years ago so I could live somewhere that had all the above mentioned childcare, go to college and then Uni. Still no help from anyone like but the daycare made it doable and at Uni there’s no getting fired for being off with a sick child.
