Just a personal opinion and I hope I don't offend any Fraus, but I always find it a bit depressing when people seem to treat politics - or the news in general, really - as almost like their main hobby. I mean don't get me wrong, I think it's good to be aware of what's going on in the world and I like staying up for a close fought general election too, but there's something that feels (ironically) navel-gazing about thinking a relatively minor local contest is 'thrilling' or that that you're doing something super important by keeping up with all the Twitter hot takes on the issue of the day. I always want to be like... can't you read a book or something? Go for a walk somewhere pretty, learn the guitar, study astrophysics, idk whatever you're into, just something that involves interacting with the world around you in a genuine way, and doesn't ultimately come down to introspecting about your own opinions all the time. Even gumshoe grassroots volunteering in your community, if you feel passionately about activism - but the kind where you meet real people and actually do stuff, not just sitting on social media complaining about how society is tit.
(I'm aware that I'm criticising the way people choose to spend their time after reading through 25 pages of bitching about a rubbish cookery writer on an online gossip forum But I have a life too - Tattle is how I pass the time when I'm bored, not a large part of my personality!)
