Her house parties are like marmalades pictures, she has cardboard cutouts of herself dotted round the place, and no argumentsShe doesn’t have enough friends for a house party. Can I just say that this thread is a truly special place. It makes me so happy.
I've said before I'm ish about Ruby, but maybe she's realised calling Sir Matt a prick, and being associated with Jack aren't great career moves? In other news, Ruby Tandoh hadn’t followed Jack back (which might not be that deep, and that she just had more to her life than Twitter), but she does follow Trifley D.
Brilliant work - have often just assumed that the vegan thing was total bollocks, just by way of the fact that she adopted the character long before any of the real sacrifices were made. Wouldn’t be surprised if the same is true for her latest non-drinking crusade..I'm a bit ill, not enough to retweet that fact repeatedly, but enough to spend all day on the sofa. Earlier I was digging through some Jack Instagram archives.
There's some stuff that only becomes truly fucked up in hindsight, like the pets that get introduced, photographed 20 times in a month, then are never spoken of again. But I don't want to go into that too much...
I was curious about how long her veganism actually lasted. It started as Veganuary (although she didn't mention that in the infamous Guardian piece). By the 12th of February she was judging a kids' LGBT-themed baking contest (?), with plenty of non-vegan cakes:

Then it gets a bit messy and full of contradictions. Non-vegan food (and face cream!) shows up quite regularly for the rest of 2016, and by the time we get into 2017 we see:

I feel like she lied about being vegan a LOT longer than she actually was vegan...
If I'm still unwell tomorrow I might tally up the number of times she talks about her newfound sobriety. It happens a LOT - note the date here, October 2016:

Lol @ the idea of cracking addiction in two weeks. Idk how she’s not embarrassed to speak with such authority on everything, she really doesn’t know much about anything so often misses the mark. Mortifying.I'm a bit ill, not enough to retweet that fact repeatedly, but enough to spend all day on the sofa. Earlier I was digging through some Jack Instagram archives.

Have previously tried piecing together the timeline to create a Gantt chart for us, found it impossible tbh, below was just from the various guardian pieces she’s done:

There’s probably more of a correlation between her cash flow issues & these ebbs and flows of drinking problems than anything to do with MH. The guardian was her very first pay pig
Regarding being given platforms about these things - it seems as though they’re drying up though? - perhaps they’re becoming wise to her never-ending grift of adopting an authoritative view on important lifestyle matters which are nothing more than fads to her, and selling this view to the highest bidder. One hopes they have, anyway. What I don’t understand about this is why she is given these platforms to write about the sobriety and alcoholism when it is obvious from her back catalogue, she has not become “sober for the first time” every time she is given the opportunity to spout off again.
Why don’t the researchers do their due diligence (it isn’t that hard fgs) and and see she writes about this every few years?
It is harmful to the community, personally harmful to individuals and shows the publications up to be useless. it
You've only got to see the lack of RTs from editors and commissioning editors to know this is true. Poor old Carole is lumbered with her (and what she thinks in private is v different to what she says and does in public, I guarantee) and a few others feel pity. There are a few high profile accounts who worry about what she might do if they withdraw completely. They are trapped. Then there's Grace Dent who is, underneath it all, a bit of a gullible fuckwit for all her public brio and cynicism.Regarding being given platforms about these things - it seems as though they’re drying up though? - perhaps they’re becoming wise to her never-ending grift of adopting an authoritative view on important lifestyle matters which are nothing more than fads to her, and selling this view to the highest bidder. I could never diss Ina!As someone said on another thread “if we all felt the same way about everything, life would be boring”*
*please no one say they don’t like Ina.
Yeah, not just editors but really anyone with a blue tick and /or anyone who's remotely influential within the twitter world (other than the odd sympathy 'darling' post from Mom). All she's got are her gullible squigs and even they seem to be dropping off. You've only got to see the lack of RTs from editors and commissioning editors to know this is true.
I think there is possibly an interesting piece of digging to do about the Guardian and sobriety given the number of their journalists who have decided to claim a history of Class A abuse in an effort to make themselves sound interesting, some of whom (Crace & Freeman for starters) were working there when Will Self was sacked for writing about the same thing (personally I don't think that his personality flaws excuse their hypocrisy). TLDR: Jack was given a national platform to write about something she is highly unqualified for by people who arealso cynical liars. What I don’t understand about this is why she is given these platforms to write about the sobriety and alcoholism when it is obvious from her back catalogue, she has not become “sober for the first time” every time she is given the opportunity to spout off again.

I know everyone needs to eat but I would have donated my fee to the children's charity. That's what celebs normally do isn't it.Hello, I know with more application I may be able to figure this out for myself, (emphasis on the may be able to) but could someone explain the turd pudding funding to me?
I have got as far as a grant that Bristol Council are using to ensure children are fed in school breaks, however wouldn't this be separate from Netflix/Aardman funding to promote their movie and wouldn't that be used to pay for Jack? and, hopefully, the contents of the pudding?
I LOVE Ina. She got me back into cooking, way back when things were grim. I tend to halve the sugar content though..As someone said on another thread “if we all felt the same way about everything, life would be boring”*

I suspect Jack's picked up a lot of her notions from American TV shows. They tend to show things like therapy and recovery in a very over the top way. Her whole language and behaviour around the subject is off somehow. It’s shocking how little due diligence the media actually do. Always mention the Theranos case/podcast soz but that’s an actual federal trial happening rn that references Elizabeth Holmes’ use of the media to legitimise her false claims, establish her personal mythology and get in front of the right people to gain investment for what was a non viable product & company. She might go to prison for this!
Jack’s done exactly the same but on a budget, she manages to be labelled as an activist through the press through which she then vacuums up all CSR budgets these brands have for more ~ethical~ influencer partnerships (particularly in a post BLM/FSM world) AND opens up a Patreon and PayPal and Twitter donation button for well meaning people to support her “vital work”. The latter couldn’t exist without the former and it’s entirely on the likes of the Guardian and GQ for corroborating the lie that she does any form of activism work. Why aren’t we taught to be cynical of “activists” with Ltd companies?
The alcoholism stuff is… euck. As a young-ish woman in recovery I find it really embarrassing to think that anyone may believe her over hammed portrayal of what it is like. Most of us weren’t nasty people or abusive, for a lot of us the rock bottom is an emotional one not some ridiculous story about chucking books at interns and hissing at people. If she did act like that then it’s a defect of character she needs to deal with, it’s not something that happens to us all and tbh it’s not something you hear often in young women. We’ve been socialised differently, made to be more agreeable, we commit less violent crime & are less abusive on a whole for that reason. But hey, Jack isn’t like other girlsTM ! But it’s media portrayals like this that make it harder for people already riddled with shame & guilt to enter recovery. She really needs to stop it.
Sorry for the long message
Ins cheese toastie is superb compared to Jack’s dry one!I LOVE Ina. She got me back into cooking, way back when things were grim. I tend to halve the sugar content though..and I get serious house envy too
I love Slopbot, he really needs his own range of merch. Bedding, soft toys, board shorts, stationery, cat accessories and work shirts. That was an amazing chaos yesterday. I hope mercury squiggle is ok. And I hope all the mithering ninnies of the cable are ok after all the triggering bullshit of the last few days.
look what’s for slopfast this morning:
