Well, I guess Channel 4 won't be running any expose upon a conglomerate with a recent history of propping up Apartheid, destroying the environment, poisoning workers, preventing union membership, modern day slavery and, frankly, human trafficking, abusing human rights, land grabs from indigenous people and all the generally horrible things they are guilty of any time soon now.

Plus a nice correlation in appropriating phrases associated with BAME/African American political progress with somebody who has appropriated BLM for their own ends.

Pity there isn't a single BAME cook or writer about food in the entire UK available for such a gig, isn't it? Just as well there's a middleclass white woman there to save the day yet again.

It does seem weird that after 11 weeks she was hiding from bailiffs? Surely it would take longer than that to escalate things? Or am I being naive

Exactly. How could you let your child live like that KNOWING you could ask for help from family? Asking isnā€™t shameful. Not asking for bleeping help is!
Tbf, it really depends on the family. Not everyone has a family situation that is a healthy place for them to fall back on. Fictional example but relevant, in the Gilmore Girls the Gilmore household, was toxic, controlling and manipulative. Lorelai was justified making sure her daughter didn't grow up in that environment.

The problem with Jack's family in terms of her story is that she tries to signpost herself as working-class when actually she was middle class and fell on hard times. That is a story and an important one to tell - that you may think you're immune but you're not - but for some reason Jack feels the need to pretend to be working class.

I still wouldnā€™t buy Del Monte products if I even liked tin fruit you paid me. We boycotted those fuckers in the late 70ā€™s early 80ā€™s for profiting from apartheid and they made masses of money on the backs of poorly paid, shockingly treated black South Africans that they never paid back! The ā€œman from Del Monteā€ was their white South African businessman who made millions. The twats also treated workers like tit in other African countries.

Nice work socialist Jack getting in to a nice lucrative deal with a company whoā€™ve exploited millions of poor people...makes sense really, maybe this is where you took your inspiration from šŸ˜ you despicable twit!

Thanks, @Dogmuck. Never delmonte in our house too, for that reason.

She's created a problem for herself. She's poor, ethical and constantly fighting for social justice (in her head) but wants brand partnerships and virtually all big brands are problematic.

If she were truly all those things she claimed to be, she wouldn't partner with delmonte (who are still shocking).

At any rate, I'm hoping for more eye of Sauron. The Hellmann's live were my highlight. I live tattled a few of them and never felt more alive.

I've delved into the archives and found a few recipes for inspiration for Jack as we all know that she reads here (hi, Jack!). One doesn't actually have any fruit in it but I'm sure that a maverick pixie can get around that.

Iā€™m looking forward to the national media promo interviews. Hopefully they wonā€™t just be print, so we get the chance to hear her not-at-all-cockney accent.
Sheā€™s going to be on her best behavior though isnā€™t she? More of Enid Blyton Jack

Would be interesting to know what dear heart Billy Bragg thought of this collab.

I wonder if sheā€™ll suggest reusing the empty smaller tins as napkin holders, like she did with the cat food tins?

Maybe she will forensically deconstruct pineapple upside-down cake and come up with a new creation, pineapple right-way-up cake.

Any news on the poverty book or has that been fucked into the skip?

And there was me thinking it would be available for pre order "soon" šŸ˜ž

Not enough eye roll emojis in existence for this one. First Hellman's now Del Monte for the person who constantly claims frugality and uh...literally refuses to admit ever buying anything other than value range items? Laughable ffs

Poverty Jack is dead following a SEVERE Waddelling. We are in the Corporate Shill Jack era now.

What will we do without the 453862220985th retelling of the The Poverty?

Ooh ooh got another recipe for you jack. Bit of a trickier one, but just be careful you donā€™t poke yourself with the cocktail stick you crazy cat
I used this on food and drink, but because I love it so (and cheese and pineapple):
