His Twitter account is not available anymore. Anybody knows the reason?

Jack is probably the only "study-tuber" (apart from Eve Cornwell, sorry she's my babey) who I can stomach these days. A lot of the time his videos will just go on in the background whilst I'm working and I find them great to get new recommendations for books as I'm not as keen on reading as I once was. That being said, I'm not studying English literature and I'm not very exposed to that world (sorry, Law student here) so I imagine it's quite jarring to those who are.

I think it's fair enough for him to keep his gf private - he doesn't owe anyone an explanation of anything, and he keeps the majority of his private life private anyway which tbh I prefer over seeing Jade's younger sibling half naked on her bed or Ruby and Maaaarfa being absolute tosspots.
When it comes to books... I will choose Jack over Ruby. At least that guy actually reads rather than focusing on the aesthetics of his bookshelves (yes Ruby, I am looking at you)

Oh yeah, his account no longer exists. Weirdly when I Google it, it comes up with a Bulgarian 'This account does not exist' message instead of English (I'm UK-based, so no idea why that could be happening).

He either deleted it himself (which I doubt tbh), or he got hacked.

Edit: I don't know how long it's been gone for, but I don't think he's addressed it on IG.

I just watched his new video - he deleted his Twitter because he didn't feel it was serving him and Twitter became a competition of sorts (I wasn't really paying attention tbh) but I say fair enough

It's always Twitter they (Influencers) delete/don't use because it's the one that they have least control over the replies/comments etc compared to other platforms.

In his new video (the Dua Lipa one) he says he deleted his account after reading the book Trick Mirror, essentially a reaction to one of the essays in the book

I think a lot of influencers (at least British ones anyway) don't use Twitter that much unless they are into the satirical, jokey nature of the Twittersphere. Studytubers and booktubers don't tend to be part of that.

Twitter is a dire place, so I very much understand anyone not wanting to stay on the platform.

His StoryGraph video irritated me because he’s still using goodreads!!!
It annoyed me the second I saw that video pop up, because it's blatant lies for sponsor money - Jack will stop using Storygraph the second the video's posted and the cheque clears and then continue using Goodreads.

It's the most transparent bull ever, like when influencers get gifted new laptops and phones to advertise or for paid sponsorships, and instead of just saying "Hey, LG or Huawei or whoever paid me to advertise this. Here are the features!" they always go overboard and shout how "This is my new everyday phone! It's the greatest thing ever!" or "I'll be using this laptop for everything now! I've already smashed my MacBook now that I'll never need it!" and then never touch those things again after the video/Insta post goes up.

I'm pretty sure sponsor money isn't dependant on you saying it's the best product in the history of everything, just to advertise it and not say anything outwardly negative about it in the sponsored video, so it baffles me that influencers always go there. And if it is money in exchange for a positive review, then you have to ask if shredding what little integrity you have is worth the money, especially if your channel is built around supposedly honest reviews and opinions.

The video isn't sponsored though? It would have to say if it was. We're so used to influencers being disingenuous that we don't trust the ones who actually rave about things for real 😂 The Storygraph is a good website, theres been lots of tiktoks about using it too

But still continues to use good reads…. When he said he’d stop?

or she just prefers to be kept off the internet? she's not an influencer so i guess its not weird for her to not want to be online
I presume she wants to stay vaguely anonymous, which is absolutely fair enough. I've always found it cringey when YouTubers pressure their reluctant partners into being in videos, so Jack's doing the right thing by her I feel.

It's not sponsored but the video did feel performative... like why did he have to make it such a spectacle to show him setting up an account, it's not that hard, anyone can figure it out. Also the way he only put "diverse characters" and "world literature" as his likes seemed kinda pretentious idk and I wish he had mentioned some of the downsides of thestorygraph too

I don't technically mind him still using goodreads for a while, after all it's technically part of his job to talk about books online and lots of people probably do follow him on goodreads but aren't on storygraph but still, he shouldn't have made it such a thing™ in the video then

Having watched it now, it definitely feels off. The whole thing screamed "sponsored video" from the thumbnail, description, but even if it's not, it definitely feels like he's desperately angling for a paid partnership deal, especially with him making a point to brag about how many followers he has on Goodreads and how popular he is there (which felt like a 'Hey, Storygraph, look at all these people I could coax to you platform!' nudge). It also feels super disingenuous: I don't believe for one second he'll ditch Goodreads in favour of Storygraph.

Am I right in thinking people were discussing migrating to Storygraph last year? It feels a bit like Jack has gone ‘damn, I need to catch up and I should make sure everyone knows I too am leaving the Bezos owned goodreads!’ A bit performative, you know?

Plus Storygraph seems totally antithetical to what an influencer would want from a platform like that. On Goodreads, he gets to brag and boast openly about having a big follower count, and that popularity contest is out in the open for people to see. On Storygraph, it sounds like all that is hidden away and you can't see who's following you, see people's follower counts or interact with other users - it's not a social media platform like he seems to think.

That and the video is pretty much just him setting up his profile. Shouldn't you spend some time with something before announcing that it's going to be your platform of choice?

He also criticises Goodreads for looking dated, but Storygraph looks like a more simplified clone of the same layout. It does seem to me like he's trying to court a sponsorship and heaping unqualified praise on Storygraph to do it.

While I don't particularly like Jack (he's too try hard in most of his videos) I have to hand it to him that he's made a legitimate successful transition from studytube to booktube and probably done the best out of his generation of studytubers (eve, jade, ruby, iz etc) in keeping his audience. His audience and subscriber base definitely helped him get into booktube but in comparison to a lot of youtubers who start making videos about education/when they're in uni, he's adapted his content pretty well.
