If the rumours are true and he tried to commit suicide then I’d say he’s going to be medically unfit for quite a while.

I've scrutinised what his wife said for clues of a suicide attempt but it only stated that he's in an 'episode' of his 'well documented' battle with 'depression'.

If he had tried to take his own life and needed emergency treatment and hospitalisation, he could be in a life and death state, in an induced coma, etc - could be for many months to come. But she didn't seem to be dealing with anything like that, in my opinion. Also had that been the case, I imagine there'd have been news reports of ambulances and all sorts of drama that the public would have captured and would have been leaked online by now.

I think it's more like he had a panic / breakdown / paranoia attack - we know he was filled with rage as it's been reported - if he's been using substances or drinking he probably hit the bottle and had a little rampage and his wife / agent / PR / legal took charge. Whoever dealt with this, they did a remarkable slick job.

As I have said before, if he's gone to some long term treatment centre (never mind 28 days in the priory BS), he could be at least two months drying out and getting stabilised on the right medication, then many more months to come of therapy, group work, sober living, dealing with other 'issues' such as sex and porn addiction I would suggest, childhood trauma, relationship dysfunction, workaholism, gambling, underlying issues... it just goes on and on. Some places you're not allowed your phone or to speak to friends and family for at least the first six months. I think this is a more likely scenario which is why no-one's leaked anything.

Actually, in the typical UK celeb redemption tradition (the jungle, Big Brother, Strictly, etc), his best shot at any media thing right now probably is light entertainment. Which I wonder if that wasn’t something he secretly actually was quite keen on. I understand that it wouldn’t have been compatible with his news job but now that he most likely doesn’t have that job, do we think he’ll go for it (if offered)?

I think he might? It would be a good way of getting back into the public eye and into people’s good books again while also reinventing/relaunching himself. He would probably have to make some sort of statement beforehand though to be “accepted” again (), because most people are probably going to feel like they need an explanation of some sort.

I was watching Strictly last night and the Channel 4 newsreader taking part made me think of Huw.

Yes that was being mentioned in mainstream media just before he disappeared and obv no-one can discuss now. There was one specific example where he told a female colleague her dress was nice or something that had made her feel uncomfortable which was maybe a bit of a reach IMO and there was stuff being hinted at about younger staff that was never fully described and then it all went silent.

I was expecting a Schofield or grooming type scenario where we'd find out he'd been chatting up or pressurising younger staff but if there has been something like that we don't know about it. I don't know any insider gossip, I supposed there's a lot, but we certainly haven't had that type of thing confirmed in the mainstream media.

That was my understanding as well. The only threatening behaviour alleged so far was towards people outside of the newsroom AFAIK.

I wonder if The Guardian have new information that they can’t explicitly report (yet), or if they’re just confusing separate incidents.

I don't know if the date is american style on that post, ie today's date? However, if it's today, then guaranteed HE has been snapped coming out of a treatment centre / rehab / medical facility / psychiatric hospital and *that* would be breach of his right to privacy and GDPR, a solicitor would certainly have grounds to act if any mainstream site published. The thing is, can't stop them being 'leaked'.

No, not if he was in a public place. The only time photography is off limits is if it's shot through the windows of private residences or suchlike.
