I disagree. Men can be breathtakingly dismissive of women’s issues.

…I take it you’re a man?
Of course men can be dismissive of women's issues. My point is women can be just as dismissive of men's too.

Something I've experienced myself many times.

I hope I didn't cause upset or offence to those when I posted that screenshot about surrogacy

My tipping point was when I started getting Facebook ads about egg donation (seriously) when the algorithm realised I'd hit 30. Over those months I discovered radical feminism and for me, the take home message for me was always: men cannot be women, and should not buy women, whether it's through prostitution, pornography and yes, surrogacy, as it requires the sacrifice of another woman's body for the gain of another, and the women 'choosing' to do it are often poor and exploited in other ways. In a previous thread I discussed this: it's not uncommon in places like India or Ukraine, for the money made via surrogacy to line the pockets of their husbands or fathers.

In the UK the language of surrogacy is changing to make it more acceptable for gay men to have children via surrogate than adopt. The language used to be 'surrogate mother' then 'surrogate' now it's 'gestational carrier'. So it's not just via gender ideology that the language of women and the disruption of the mother-child bond takes place.

But infertility is a very difficult topic and I can understand why for example, a woman born without a uterus but with ovaries would want a child via a surrogate. But for most of the world's women, that's not the case.

The first stage in Dr Haddock's tribunal has finished. The next stage is for the panel to decide whether his fitness to practice is impaired, and then the third is to consider sanctions.

Thank you 😊

The way twitter was going in today, it was if they expected him to be hanged, drawn and quartered this afternoon.

Here comes a condescending man into a group of women to contribute nothing besides telling us we're wrong. How terribly surprising.

I also really want a biological child so some of the comments stung a bit to me too but that's because I kind of think they're right. I think it is a selfish decision to want to be pregnant/ give birth/ have a baby that's mine (and my husband's) especially given the world we'd be bringing that baby into. But I have decided I am going to be selfish about this and also there's an argument that I think I'm an okay person who has thought a lot about how I was raised and how I want to raise children and it's important to raise good people which (hopefully!) my child/ children would be.

I also want it so physically- the only reason I'm not trying already is career plans and money worries, and when I think about postponing any longer than six months, it aches so much, I just want to be trying now, I want to be a mother now more than I've wanted to be married, more than I've really wanted anything in my life before.

I have thought about having one child biologically and then adopting, but I worry that even if I treated them the same way, even if I loved them both dearly, some small part of me would know they were different experiences, and the adopted child would know that too and that would just not be fair to them. I also live in a part of the US where there have been horrific cases of white people adopting children taken from their parents by ICE and then when this came to light refusing to give the child back and I would hate to do that (I'd also you know give the child back).

I think the for-profit model is the problem and that the people - the women- most effected are women with little other options, women in eastern europe or in India. It's not a choice, in the same way prostitution is rarely a choice, and it's not like selling hair or something which will grow back, it can have lifelong consequences.

But if my sister, who I love dearly, couldn't conceive and I could, I would 100% be happy being a surrogate for her. I would still be part of that child's life, I would know my sister wouldn't leave me in the lurch, she would not blame me if something went wrong, she would help with medical stuff.

(Although the comments from people in this thread about being adopted and at some level knowing that they didn't have that connection with their mother have given me pause).

I'm so happy for you and your child.
You sound like you’ll be a great mum. I totally understand your yearning to start trying. It was a while ago for me now now but I remember it well. 12/13 years ago I was posting on a TTC (trying to conceive) forum not dissimilar to this. The women on there really helped me on my darkest days. Good luck when you start TTC ❤

Only that's not what I'm doing at all.

Jesus. I was just talking about how being a lone gender amongst a group of people from another gender leads to the same sort of group-collective response regardless. It's a valid point.

I'm the only woman among a group of mostly left-leaning males and I had a really frustrating conversation with them yesterday about the trans agenda, where I was told to "grow up" and that I was getting riled up by a few fringe crazies on Twitter who don't represent the majority of trans people who just want to get on and live their lives quietly.

Someone even confidently mansplained that Gender was determined by an enzyme affecting the embryo at the exact right time and there fore it might be that the process goes wrong at some point. He was promptly shot down and told that sex is determined by chromosomes, but I couldn't believe the confidence with which he came out with complete rubbish.

I know you have to know your audience with this as a contentious topic, but I feel thoroughly flabberghasted and gaslighted into thinking I'm the crazy one.

tl:dr - men innately sticking up for other men. It's not them who are affected, we have to absorb all of the 'others' into our language and spaces.
I obviously don’t know them but the fact you mention left leaning indicates a lot to me in that they are going to support any perceived minority interest. I have come across guys like that before mostly online. The vast majority of guys I know would have no opinion whatsoever on it and if questioned would probably come out with pejorative term for trans woman. I seriously doubt a single one would agree with the statement a trans woman is a woman. The guys I do discuss stuff like this with includes a communist and a Corbyn supporter. They are all firmly on the sides of TERFS….one of them actually happens to run a project in a prison so is firmly against trans mixing with woman. As is incidentally most of the prison staff he works with most of whom are men.

lastly this is maybe going off track but based upon personal experience none of the guys I know would date a trans woman or even have sex with them. This is in the west of Scotland so maybe you would get a different answer if you spoke to a guy in London for example maybe in his 20/30s rather than me in my 40s.

The liberal woke bros have found a way to openly hate women and call it being 'progressive'. Trans activism in a nutshell. I also do believe there are some who believe the false narrative that trans people are the most oppressed of all but I find those types just as annoying as they're more concerned with 'seeming' progressive rather than actually listening to women.

But you're right, in the real world everyone knows what a woman is. Even those who shout 'trans women are women' know it's a meaningless statement

Congratulations! You’ve managed to come out with the #1 cliche voiced by a man who is upset with a group of feminists criticising men as a class:

Women do that too you know!

#2 is saying forget women’s issues, men have issues too! And I think you sneaked that one in as well.

It’s also been my experience, both on social media and in real life, that the left-leaning blokes I know have grasped on to the trans issue with a surprising and disturbing amount of glee once they realised it was a perfect opportunity to dismiss, harass and victimise women. Even the ones that posted lots of supportive stuff about the ‘me too’ movement and how we should believe and listen to women suddenly aren’t that keen on believing and listening when it comes to maintaining safe spaces for women and girls. It’s been a really disheartening experience.

The thing is, in my experience, you could quote that word-for-word towards groups of women when a lone man is present. They all synchronise and become a single entity. I don't think it's down to either being men or being women.
You could substitute it for many scenarios, it also reminds me of conversations I had with older generations about Muslim communities when fear of terrorism was rife. I am talking about this specific situation though. I don't know what you thought you were adding to the conversation by coming into this thread which is about a specific topic and dismissing what we're talking about by generalising.

They have already pretty much said that they don't think TWAW, although they do leer jokingly(?) at the pornified ones that mostly pass.
When the BBC published the article about the cotton ceiling, I tried to get them to say solidly whether they think it's acceptable that lesbians are being labelled bigots because they won't accept penises, and no one committed to an answer and then went back to the usual spiel about how most trans people don't care about this stuff yada yada yada.

One of them did kind of stick up for me and say that the media coverage is not proportionate, if indeed trans people are small, opressed minority that mostly doesn't care about this tit. I could have gone in with stats about referrals to tavistock and the whole self-ID doctrine, but felt utterly defeated by that point.

I would disagree that it's a loud minority on twitter with extreme views, as the views they are espousing is mostly Stonewall ideology. I know I am probably preaching to the converted here, just wanted to air my frustration!
