It’s not a surprise - mental health issues have always been rife in celebrity and sporting circles.

It's terrible. I know of a few. One club in particular had a quite a few all at once and I contacted them about it got the stock response. So I challenged them again and nothing. There was at least 5 players at the club struggling with their mental health is some form including eat disorders (very common in footballers) and from what I could see not much was done for them and a few left to escape it.
Footballers have the whole they know people don't love them for them thing too, it plays havoc on their self esteem. A lot live fast and loose because and accident could end it all but that lifestyle also jeopardises the career. A lot of footballers are quite fragile and a lot of those we comment on being stable with wives etc are actually the ones open about their mental health etc
Also exposed to a lot of drugs and we know clubs give painkillers and sleeping tablets etc like sweets causes a slippery slide. It needs properly monitoring and a big overall but won't happen.

That’s absolutely shocking I know a lot of football clubs simply can’t be bothered to take interest in real mental health they’ll do the mental health awareness day stuff because the FA says so but most owners view it as a business and don’t give a shit about the players and staff members well beings. I know a old footballer player turned manager who took his own life because of years of mental health issues his best friend also took his own life and Barry Bennell was involved in both those suicides. I also think that’s why they’ll never be an openly gay footballer in the premier league because of mental health fear.

I know who you mean people have suggested he was gay too and that played a part possibly.

I do know of (not know personally) a few gay footballers (one confirmed the rest unconfirmed ) but that is information I'm never putting in public domain. Just the pressure though plays a big part too. So much speculation as people expect footballers to have a glam wife etc (luckily that perception is changing) they're damned if they come out damned if they don't. Its why one wrote to the papers saying he may retire early.

Thats exactly right the whole story is horrendous.
There are a good few rumours that have floated around about a few footballers being gay I know one which is slowly doing the rounds again but it’s whispered and when I look at this footballer on insta I sort of see why it’s not James Maddison even though I’ve been shown a pictures of him and his supposed boyfriend and I see why people think that of him and why people will say he’s bi I called him the next Caitlyn jenner because of those daft outfits and earrings. A girl who was a booty call started the rumour about RLC being gay he’s not to my knowledge he’s just crap in the sack.

I've not heard anything at the moment tbf but I tend to take them with a pinch of salt because like you say spiteful girls can be behind a lot of the rumours

The abuse my gosh it has an affect mentally and I'm not sure people grasp that OK it may not be true and you shouldn't get offended by people thinking you're gay but at the same time you are also being exposed to vile abuse. It's not as simple as they should be themselves no one cares on the pitch. That is absolute crap. Players miss a goal they get abused, they get homophobic terms as insults from own fans, when they aren't gay can you imagine that on a mass scale? Also you can't stop it because how do you prove you aren't something? That's got to be so frustrating

I don't see a world where footballers (and athletes in general) will be able to come out anytime soon. This is so sad.

Not just that, most football fans come from countries where being gay is illegal and taboo. I follow some of the major leagues such as EPL, and most of the fans are not receptive of the LGBT gestures and campaigns in football. The players know the repercussions of coming out such as losing fans, endorsements and possible death threats.

Plus players need to know there won’t be a negative reaction to reaching out. A real fear is if they talk to someone at the club then their place might be at risk.

The wife hasn’t unfollowed him. If the story is about him she’ll stay like she always does. She got the ring so thinks she’s is better than the rest. He constantly posts on Instagram of his 3 children with his wife but never posts his other children. It’s really sad he portrays this family man image when it couldn’t be further from the truth.

I can’t imagine a gay player would ruse of the regular escorts who are hardly known for discretion and keeping things Secret.
And any hints about the one being whispered?

He did a wonderful thing with the free school meals.

Gay men aren't known for discretion and secrecy either, especially not among the gay community itself. I suspect that any gay footballers will, unless they are essentially celibate, be well known, or at least widely discussed, in their local communities.

That would be a massive story. I feel a lot of that is wishful thinking that the big coming out will be someone loved and seen as willing to be an activist.

Dexpends if they date or use mostly rent boys - most rent boys in cities are not British so are less integrated In even mainstream gay community,

True, but rent boys also don't have the best reputation for discretion, either.

And I think that someone "loved and seen as quite pure" would have the least trouble if they came out, honestly¹. I still don't think it's massively likely anyone will actually come out, though.

¹Second least would be someone who became a professional having been openly gay since school and never hiding it. They'd most likely have to be bloody good and very thick skinned to actually get that far though.

If it’s true then yeah it would it’s floated about for a good few years and some recent pics on his insta are getting it whispered again, I know people say Alex Ox is in the closet but I don’t know if that’s a combo of the picture in bed and how soft his personality seems to be and people have just added the two together. I doubt it being known in the gay community if a footballer is gay.
