This has made me cackle, there are video profiles now?! Is it like when you see those 80s dating agency videos in movies?!

This would be such a fun day out! Love Ole & Steen too, the staff in the Piccadilly Circus branch have the patience of saints and I appreciate that they let you skip the ticketed queue system if you’re a regular. The rye bread is amazing, loved the prawn-y thing they did on it, and the cheesy mushroom flatbread things (don’t know the name of it). The cinnamon swirls are SO good but impossible to eat a whole one. The potato focaccia is amazing too although I hated that they kept it by the entrance, uncovered! 🤮 Why oh why has covid ruined everything!

Out of interest what do you make of crosstown donuts Mustard? I like that their Brick Lane store is open til 10ish so you’ve got somewhere to go after work that isn’t a pub & they do a free hot drink with your donut..
I'm gonna have to ask all you London-based frauen for recommendations when I can finally visit my mum again. There used to be the most amazing Vietnamese place just round the corner from her flat, but sadly it closed down a couple of years ago...I still miss that softshell crab...

I miss having so many options about where to eat. Food quality here is generally very, very good, but people are quite unadventurous in their tastes, so international cuisine is limited.

yes absolutely! I don't drive, but I feel like I've noticed this when my boyfriend drives us up to my dad's, like, oh that's a whole new slip road to the metrocentre, whatever 🥴

and yes to the teeny things too ❤
I never drove when I lived there but I walked the roads and got the bus and it’s just weird there’s a particular road that doesn’t exist now and you don’t have to drive through the village any more so it’s somehow even more out of the way. But the old colliery buildings are still up, mad

As a softy southerner with 🔺roots in the north🔺I’m loving it too. Amble surprised me so much on my last trip up. It’s transformed!
I think Northumberland’s been so popular for tourism the last 5-10 years it’s had a bit more money in it for development in the coastal areas at least

@Spoonfulofjam - You were in my neck of the woods?! We could have had our very own mini-frau meet up! Hope you enjoyed yourself and dodged the shit balls weather.
Lolling at ‘the lurky weirdo who once told you about a chocolate bar’. Mate, that tale has been seared into my memory, and as others will attest, I have a good memory 😂

So sorry to hear of all of the stuff you’ve been going through. Remember what I said about Lois Lane and Superman ❤
Lord, weeping at your Lois Lane reference afresh.

Yes this is why I can't understand why Dentists wake up one day as a teen and think, I want to spend all day everyday working on teeth 😬😂. Sorry any Dentists reading this!
And proctologists. I mean, I'm glad they exist, glad someone wants to specialise like that, but.......🥴

Nearly 3 months bless her 🥰 I need to get over the guilt with leaving her by herself, we’re either cuddling her, watching her sleep, or trying to entertain her which is bad isn’t it, she’s never alone. I need to get over the guilt ASAP as it won’t be good when she’s got to go out into the real world. God speaking of guilt absolutely traumatised I put her in a thick knitted coat type thing yesterday and her thumb got caught in the lining and bent back it was horrifying struggling to free her, she cried, still feel sick to my stomach I did that. She forgot about it in seconds and we’ve been checking the thumb but ☹

Does anyone else watch the bidding room? One of the dealers isn’t half bad 🥴

omg this is so cute! I love the idea of this, thank you, she had this electronic swinging arm which they claim is moveable but you’d have to be the sonic arm like JM to do it! I’ll check if she needs to be a bit older cos I worry about her floppy neck omg
Oh bless you! The guilt never ends 🥴 its not bad to cuddle her 🥰 just about getting a balance isnt it? I quite liked when they were in their high chairs/bouncers because I could get on with cooking/showering whilst still within reach and interacting with them.

This is worth trying from Sainsbury’s. It keeps well in the cupboard and needs to be added to water. Will absorb flavours you add.
I spotted these the other day and wondered if they were any good. I think they also do a falafel mix too that I'd like to try. Thanks for the ideas, getting a bit stuck in a rut food-wise at the moment so these are really helpful.

I love leek & potato soup. Mind sharing the recipe? I tried THAT MAN’S one from his Ministry of Food book but it came out super watery. Yours looks lovely.
I didn’t properly use one so it’s liable to be rather Jack! I screenshot this one and had some of the stuff to hand but not everything in this recipe so just whacked it in but the principle was kind of the same!? It’s rather mashed potatoe-y my one

I tried that ages ago but was terrified about how much it made!!!! It swelled up so much!

But I agree it did absorb flavours well.

Especially the Sainsburys ones (when they aren’t overdone)
Hot seafront doughnuts too 😋
Still on a grunka so really hope this doesn’t land inappropriately...but yes yes yes to this!!! The sainos ones were like crack for me when pregnant - you can smell them as soon as you set foot in our store (or maybe my smell is still super heightened) even though the bakery is all the way at the back. The ones in ours are *chefs kiss every time. I prefer proper sugar on donuts not powered sugar. Also seaside donuts are amazing - and love that they’re hot.

Desperately trying to recall the place that sells Cronuts in East London - I worked off Brick Lane several years ago and a work thing I had to go to was round the corner and they were sublime (my geography of any is rubbish but it wasn’t a million miles from Brick Lane. This was easily 6/7 years ago now though!

Catching up here while scoffing my lunch (parsnip and lentil soup, looks like proper slop but it's delicious so I'm not too worried about it being anything like a JM monstrosity). Love this thread, have totally gone off the MT recently. I don't have many mam/foodie friends so this place is a godsend!

How do I do a spoiler for boring toddler chat? Anyway, boring toddler chat incoming...

Another night of hijinks for my lad. Same performance as Friday night, wailing and wimpering in the cot, brought into our bed to calm him down and bingo! Crazy party fun times. I have a cut on my eye this morning because he accidentally punched me and has ridiculously long nails at the moment. He looks like Mr Burns in that Howard Hughes pisstake episode. Maybe I should get a shimmery Urban Decay palette out and post a selfie?

Baked spuds with baked beans tonight, my partner has so honourably offered to 'cook' as it's almost always me sorting food. Typical that it's the bloody easiest thing on the menu all week!

Also, I had a vegan Nutella doughnut today and it was better than (marital, post-childbirth) sex. We're really spoilt where we live - used to be a run-down seaside town on the North East coast (🔺- free chicken livers to anyone who guesses correctly) but has been gentrified recently by twats like us so all these cool coffeeshops and bakeries keep popping up. Not doing my bank balance any favours mind.
Ouch! How’s the eye now? My daughter did the same to me a few months ago and 111 told me to go to A&E. I felt stupid but they checked that it wasn’t serious and numbed my eye so definitely worth making a call if you’re uncomfortable (though I understand if you have to be/are wary re: covid)

No idea about the town but that donut sounds amazing! I think the presence of chains in every town has made the independent places feel the pressure to offer something special more than before. My town is a bit rubbish but the quality of independent cafes/restaurants has improved dramatically in recent years. It’s really nice to see (no gentrification here, though the neighbouring village is fancy)
