I know this is minor in the scheme of things but I fecking hate British Gas. I don’t use my home display thing (or app) because it makes me anxious watching that thing go up so I just check the usage every few days on the website. Now they have updated the website, you can’t see your usage only your dd, billing and readings. Presumably this is to force people to use their HDU and app. I phoned them incandescent a week ago and as I have a smart meter, they changed my settings so I could see my usage again and this morning it has reverted back and it’s all gone.

I understand there are bigger fish to fry. I understand there are other things in my life and the world to worry about but can’t companies just leave the duck alone?

Kach, I am so sorry you are going through this. I can’t offer any advice but what others have said.

CL, it’s crap when you are working with someone who is not great. More than crap in fact. It can be life changing and not in a good way. I left a school because of someone once. It took me years to get over it. I looked them up on SM because I was obsessed with how their career was progressing over mine (I know- only Mrs T knows how bad I was with this and LJC I was a complete bunny boiler). Sending you all the panda slides.

Can we have morning snacks? I feel it is going to be one of those days.

KCC sorry to hear this, I think your colleague has behaved like a twit in reporting this and not just asking if you were ok.

I agree to what others have said in keeping a note of everything. Are you in a union? Firstly, don't admit to anything as its your word against hers. Have you had a workplace assessment done? Making sure that your laptop/screen/chair are all appropriate? Have a look at your company policy.

If you are really struggling, there is no harm in taking some time off to work through your issues and put some time between you and the incident.

We're nowhere near Facturday (or are we? I am living in a World Cup haze, no idea what day it is), but inspired by that hippo post, I hope this will cheer people up:

KCC I have been through similar workplace bullshit (a false allegation which was so bizarre that I initially laughed it off - big mistake as it somewhat escalated from there) and it sucked. Your colleague needs a retrain in how to be a decent human being mental health in the workplace if nothing else. Hopefully your HR and/or line manager will tell them to go and raffle and then get you a bit of extra support, but if not...

Occupational Health were the most helpful in the process, my GP at the time was a diamond in listening and helping me stand my ground against bad employment practice (but not that great I realise now in terms of referring me for the additional specialist MH support I needed to get through what was essentially corporate gaslighting), union rep was out of her depth and HR played dirty. I also had good support from an employment lawyer, employee assistance programme (essentially providing a listening service, but it was what I needed) and while the ACAS helpline gave me poor advice on this one I accept that the issue was very niche and they helped make up part of the bigger jigsaw of support - it was important to my MH to make sure I had done everything within my power to challenge the situation and try everything so there were minimal 'what ifs' afterwards. Long story short, I got the time and space away from the place and incident, Occ Health and GP helped me realise and keep hold of the fact it was them and not me, employment lawyer was useful in outlining the pros and cons of taking action and my union rep at least witnessed what happened and made herself available to me to vent, even if it was completely outside her experience to actually deal with. I left with my dignity and reputation intact, which was the main thing, and now I have had a whole new, extremely rewarding career with organisations that match my values.

If I were to do anything different now, I would ask for a neutral notetaker or get my rep to take full notes in addition to the HR notetaker in any formal meetings - especially if they are not presented to you as formal meetings in advance or during, but treated as formal meetings further down the line. I didn't ask for a recording as it would have been distressing to listen back to, I can't even listen to voicemails letting me know my click and collect order is in, lol. I would also have called on people I know personally who are or have been senior union officials and get their input. I was very ashamed of the predicament I found myself in at the time, and too intent on 'playing by the rules' to keep the high moral ground or some such but I would have no qualms in drawing on all the support I have access to now I'm through the other side.

I got a wonderful surprise box of Christmas goodies in the post yesterday from my dear German friend , whom I've known for 45 years, (since we started writing to each other as penfriends ....I don't even speak German but her English has always been incredible)
hadn't seen each other for years but she finally came over to see "ABBA" experience in September and we had a lovely couple of days reminiscing
I shall enjoy sampling all these wonderful delights

Love this post and so much really resonated so thank you for sharing. Loved this bit - “have had a whole new, extremely rewarding career with organisations that match my values.” !! There’s a cheesy saying that does the rounds on Insta that says something to this effect that I’ll no longer stay in places or situations that require me to betray parts of myself that I love/is so true!

Our neighbours smoke alarm has been beeping every 40s (in a battery low way not a fire way) for the past week and a half, driving us mad and finally it seems to be dying because the beep is fading. Mr B saw said neighbour about a day in and offered to change the battery in case she couldn’t get it down and apparently she just doesn’t care about the beeping and wasn’t interested(!).

(We have high ceilings and he’s a lot taller than her, it wasn’t in a “here I am as a man” way, just here I am as tall person with ladders - he’s changed a few neighbours landing lightbulbs as they’re in an awkward position.)

One of ours did that a while ago (posted on here about it). Changing the battery did f all. Pressing silent did nothing too. We jammed the top on with a screwdriver too. Friends episode on speed.

Hope it goes quiet for you soon. I don’t know how your neighbour is tolerating it.

Dog when she was full of joy. She isn’t at the moment because she wasn’t allowed sandwiches.

(I get worried when I post pics of her because her eyelids are really pigmented- they aren’t sore.)
