honestly, i can write the aftermath right now:Oh jeez I can't take more months of brooding, miserable Ben
ben is moody, miserable, snaps at lexi, lola and kathy look concerned in the background. callum huffs, looks at the sky, says ben why won’t you talk to me, ben storms out of a few conversations, callum huffs continuously, like a ridiculous amount of huffs, conversation with phil where he implies ben isn’t up to the job. some emotional running off to quiet corners of the square to cry alone. callum huffs. someone says “ben!” in an exasperated way as he storms off screen.
all of the above for probably a few months before we get a really rushed reveal week.
We could all write EastEnders better than the current load of writers. Absolute gutting of the writing room needed.
I think it would’ve been a bit more interesting if this happened to Callum. He is usually the ray of sunshine to Ben’s storm. As pps have said, the script is going to be so bloody predictable. They should’ve just explored a PTSD storyline with Ben and educated people on how they can ask for help and manage trauma in the long run and given this storyline to Callum.

i know that there are some limitations in writing a soap but there’s no excuse for the sheer laziness going on with the writing on ee at the moment - plots started but not finished, major events happening that are then never spoken about again, a huge number of characters being completely wasted…. it needs a huge overhaul.
where is the ptsd even going to come into it? when you break it down they’ve given ben ptsd into becoming some kind of gay vigilante into this in the space of about two months. like you say, why didn’t they give the initial storyline a chance to breathe before piling the rest on?
this storyline with callum would have had a more “interesting” themes to it - both with him being in the police and ex-military and just coming to terms with living out and proud and doing that magazine shoot. there’s a lot they can explore with callum tbh, especially with how violent we knew his childhood was, but he’s basically a crutch for ben most of the time.
Ugh Groan... I'm really not looking forward to that at all and agree that if we have to have this awful story it would have been better to give it to Callum rather than Ben.I don’t know if that’s true but there is a story involving that same character

To be honest it's really not a story line that I want to watch full stop so it doesn't matter which member of the cast gets it.
