One of her reels just popped up on Instagram and made me cringe so hard. I just don’t think she has an original thought in her brain - from the books she reads to the ‘aesthetic’ she’s dragging from 2014 tumblr to 2025. Also her pronouncing Jeanette Winterson wrong and putting on an English accent. NO, we don’t claim you!!!!

And "Baskiett"! (Hate to agree with her but Widow Basquiat is a great book)

My first thought was that she seemed to be on something.

If you’re going to act pretentious and pretend to be intellectual why not just give pronunciations a quick google first 🫠

No words omg.
Jesus, i get having a literary voice but her first collection was published written when she was a hopeful writer still living in Australia, years later she’s moved continents, travelled, had relationships, met new people, written a novel and she’s still stuck writing poems to please whatever “something-core” audience she’s gained in the pandemic back then.

I really do not see her having a solid career as a writer without the internet, if her book leaves her little corner she’ll be torn apart by critics.

Lol r/booktubesnark has finally caught on on the milk dog whistle
Not gonna lie it’s good to see more people are picking this up. Sometimes it does feel like you’re going a little crazy when there’s such obvious signaling yet her followers keep acting obtuse, but that’s the point of dog whistles I guess.

i think dakota out of all the booktubers seems the most… fraudulent? you look at her and all you see is an aesthetic. there is no out of place book… no outfit she wears that is too modern… everything seems so perfectly curated i find it so hard to believe that she is even a real person. like she seems like she was crafted out of a 14 year old dark academia fanfic self insert. and i say this as someone who used to like her when i was in high school… i mean… i grew out of it, she obviously hasn’t.i (unfortunately) bought her poetry collection, and her writing hasn’t even developed at all.

The ex-Catholic thing is so forced. We see the accounts you follow on Instagram honey. You’re not ex-anything.

She’s not special either, Catholic guilt is a very common phenomenon and being ex-Christian in general is common. Many ex-Christians actually write good stuff about their trauma…she writes like an edgy 13 year old on Tumblr.

Hello fellow haters and too-woke friends! I’ve been following this thread for quite some time now and I’m so glad other people see how insidious Dakota is. She is the most blatant poser there is. Self-proclaimed pretentious and a voracious reader yet mispronounces every other word in a sentence. I know when someone is putting on airs and affecting their voice, and the fact that she doesn’t think people can see through the act is insane. Even more insane is how she’s idolized by her no doubt young and inexperienced audience.

I don’t know if anyone here is familiar with her, but Dakota has become friendly with a social commentary Youtuber named Jordan Theresa through mutual friend Jack Edwards. This is troubling to me because I actually genuinely like Jordan’s content, it’s overtly left-leaning and pro-woman, legitimately critical, and plus she acts like a real person with a real personality. (All of which Dakota is too cowardly to be.) So for her to be associated with this white supremacist dogwhistler is not a good look for her, although I have to think she isn’t aware of the controversy. Dakota makes exactly the type of hyper-aestheticized, ultra-marketable content that Jordan would make a video essay about. I can’t help but think she wouldn’t particularly care for Dakota if they hadn’t met through Jack— who, by the way, I used to watch and now avoid like the plague.

don’t know if this has already been posted here… but i found this substack review on dakotas poetry collection. as someone who has (unfortunately) read this work it is such a perfect summary on its quality, but more importantly, the impact it could have on writing in the future!

Ive read a but of her poetry book from online screenshots and i swear to god ive seen some of those exact lines on tumblr. Idk if she plagiarised it or not but if anyone has a pdf of her poetry book post it here, i need to dig

Also if you look up her poetry book on goodreads the community reviews with some actual commentary are hating it, while her braindead fans are leaving 5 stars and talking more about how they love dakota, instead of talking about the actual poetry from the book

i might see if i’m able to make my own pdf scan of her book and post it here… it wouldn’t be a printer scan but it would get the job done

Why is she essentially asking to be published by an “established publication or media outlet” all while making it seem like it’s a privilege to the person that’ll allow her to do so? English isn’t my first language so I don’t know if she’s really framing it like this or if something got lost in translation here.

I would've also thought that needing to reach out and ask for someone to publish about your 'impact' diminishes any claim that you have any...
