Why is she essentially asking to be published by an “established publication or media outlet” all while making it seem like it’s a privilege to the person that’ll allow her to do so? English isn’t my first language so I don’t know if she’s really framing it like this or if something got lost in translation here.
"I'm slipping from Z-tier influencer irrelevance into complete anonymity fast! I've ridden Jack Edwards' coattails as far as it'll get me! My manager does nothing and talent escapes me! Please, someone help me! This needs to happen quickly! I won't survive in a real job! Won't someone help this poor little nazi?"

The funny thing is that these "established publications" have contacts for pitching stories/accepting submissions. She could've compiled a list of all the media outlets she thought might suit whatever brand of neo-nazi Sabrina Spellman garbage she peddles in and had her management team reach out to them to pitch a puff piece about her crappy 'Rupi Kaur and the Dark Arts' poems, or if they don't want to do their job, she should've done it herself.

Either they've done that and it was met with resounding silence/rejection, or she just being lazy and begging for someone to write an ego-stroking ad article about her 'teen rebel's first freeverse' poetry collection was the best idea. In either case, begging for promotional coverage in the open like this is the most embarrassing tit and she could've easily spared herself the cringe by just not doing it - the exact same amount of articles will get written about her crappy edgy-try-hard poetry either way.

It's also probably not a great idea for her to push establish media outlets to look into who she is and do any due diligence research to find she's booked herself a seat on the white supremacy train.

It’s really been getting on my nerves how Dakota’s been getting invited to all these film premieres when she has never been or marketed herself as a film person. Until recently, a few months ago when she started doing monthly book & film reports. When you listen to her “reviews”, it really just seems like a marketing ploy in order to get her invited to events. Really shows how “consumption” of certain types of media is really just all about the appearances and aesthetics.

Coincidentally the same thing is happening to Jack Edwards lol, all of a sudden they’re cinephiles. I assume film events are way “cooler” than the literary ones, also with films being 2 hours long on average it’s much easier to be inside the latest trend than it is when it comes to books

It's simply because of the popularity of Letterboxd (and going to the cinema) as part of ✨️the aesthetic✨️ on TikTok. Once the hype (and the money they can make from it) is over, they'll just move unto the next thing.

I simply cannot comprehend how a professional writer can go for years without the slightest improvement and still cling onto dated tropes and quirks after having secured a publishing deal.

I know it’s a journal entry, but I do hope her novel is wildly different because how on earth can anyone read stuff like this for longer than five minutes? Word salad is what comes to mind, so much self importance and so little substance.

She’s literally what would come out if you asked chat gpt to create a human by feeding it “horrors of girlhood core” tiktok videos.

She wants her audience to perceive her as some sort of tragic (but beautiful) and tortured artist SO bad.

And what’s with calling hookups “lovers”? Baby you’re a 26 (?) year old tiktok creator living in 2025, we have the word situationship for that.

It’s ~romantic~ and ~poetic~. Using flowery language in order to romanticize something as mundane as a toxic relationship. Really emblematic of her whole shtick lol. Cheap and soulless.

this.

i read these excerpts and all i see is just someone romanticising suffering. listen to your mother dakota, it likely was a breakdown of sorts… therapy is good for that, not twisting and distorting it via boring long words for your audience of 15 year old girls who think peeling apart a pomegranate is some great metaphor for something.

Jesus christ her dear diary tiktoks are so insufferable
I’ve unfollowed her because of this lol. I can take cringe, but cringe boring and incoherent at the same time is waaay too much, I’m convinced her novel will be even worse than her poems.

Dakota reminds me sooo much of the circa. 2016 cult Tumblr poet/Soundcloud rapper Ginger Bronson (aka Kayla Day), to the point where I think she's deliberately copying her. She was influential for a bit on what used to be called 'nymphet Tumblr.' If anyone has her full poetry book to hand it would probably be interesting to run through it and look for actual duplicate sentences. The main points:
  • Run-on sentences with deliberately questionable syntax - Dakota example "New York air hangs hot and thick even though the dog days are behind us and September says we're older now and the cigarettes threaten to age us & I haven't called my mother in weeks and you said I should be ashamed of that," vs. one of many Ginger examples "Bloody noses cherry poptarts always breaking down pick up truck in the front sucking my thumb whiskey they drank by the fire while us girls watched from the porch & talked about the things we’d lost…n my baby like sand in the rain, just getting further away"
  • Romanticising of religious rural origins which are largely played-up (Dakota's got the Australian Bible Belt, Ginger wrote loads about a meth-infused upbringing in North-West Alabama, which turned out to all be fake)
  • Edgy language combining infantilised 'girlhood' with grotesque imagery, knives, drugs, etc. Loads of 'bad boys' and bar fights. Many mentions of 'gods,' praying, standard Christian/Catholic motifs. 'Feral' stuff (GB had a 'feral community' on Tumblr when her URL was bedbones)
  • Skinny messy vintage aesthetic, inspired by Courtney Love (GB is the cover image in this Cut article, was scouted to walk for Hedi Slimane when she was blonde). Similar makeup and a lot of vintage lingerie and fur
When I saw this para I literally thought it was Ginger lol:
Took the host on my tongue which is a big deal for me because I am a hypochondriac freak at the best of times and have always taken it in my hands. I like to feel the weight of the flesh of Christ in my own palm before I let it melt on my own tongue. Consecrate myself. Bless myself. Forgive myself. Save myself. I've always been a hands-on girl. Maybe a little too independent. I digress. Priest put the host on my tongue and I swear to God I could taste it. Love. I mean it, I felt the love spread from that wafer right through my veins. Static, from navel to nape. Cried in the pews and lingered for a while.
Spoilering for too many images and possible TW (violence/suicide/ED language) but it's all very 'On Sun Swallowing':

GB disappeared from the internet a few years ago but there are Lolcow and Soundcloud archives of her work, and most of her Tumblr is still accessible via Wayback Machine. She did have a few genuinely memorable tongue-in-cheek song lyrics and at least took inspiration from poets like Richard Siken instead of other Internet peers. Dakota's work looks incredibly unoriginal to anyone who has been in those Tumblr circles for five minutes, I don't know how she expects to sell books to anyone older than 15. Also it's hilarious to see her take this style and aesthetic from a notorious but relatively underground Tumblr scene to the influencer sphere, with management and sponsored trips to the Booker Awards and Hay Festival...

And it's unrelated, but the callout for press coverage is so funny and unprofessional. Demonstrates a total lack of understanding of how the press works. She needs to be emailing a proper release to journalists in that sphere, with evidence of her impact - surely her management could have helped with this? And the 'tight turnaround' thing is absolutely not up to her, it's up to the editor at the 'credible platform,' who will decide with the journalist if/when the article is newsworthy. If it's so vague that she doesn't even know whether it's an essay, review or feature, then it may well end up sitting in a queue for weeks to months!

i have her poetry collection (sad teenage me spent my money on it… oh well) so i’ll definitely have a look and analyse some of her and Ginger’s works and get back to you. even if there isn’t an overlap it still proves how boring and derivative her stuff is.

I feel like she’s just become too repetitive for it to be active 😭 other than the dog whistles all she ever does is try to pretend like she’s this chaotic intelectual while she’s actually just another internet influencer. If you read the first few pages that’s pretty much still the same thing, no growth at all.

I stopped following dakota everywhere a few months ago, but recently I watched a video by Lisa Fevral, who's a visual artist, with extensive academic knowledge on the subject, and what she says at the 25:16 mark perfectly describes the dynamics of what Dakota sells as art and how it might be related to fascism.
