My partners working late this week so I’ve got a lot of time in the evenings once the kids are in bed to think. Just been fantasising about the first day trip we can go on as a family once it’s safe to do so. At this point I think it might be a shock to their systems but I cannot wait to have some fun in our lives again. I feel so guilty over what they have missed out on even though obviously non of this is my fault. It’s probably the anxiety talking but I feel like their childhoods are wasting away😔
I feel so guilty. We are facing another birthday in lockdown for my little one and I feel sad about it. Like everything I ever hoped and dreamed for throughout my pregnancy hasn’t happened so far. She went from having different playgroups and socialising with kids of similar ages to nothing. I just hate the fact that in years to come the memories we will have of her at this age will be clouded by covid and lockdown.

That must be so hard. There are so many ‘firsts’ when they are little. Children of all ages have lost out in some way through this💜

Wish Captain Tom all the best and he recovers from covid but its a bit of a poor show that his family are allowed to be in hospital with him (source sky news) when the rest of us aren't allowed such privileges, does this mean his family are also positive cases of ? Extremely unfair to people who have not been able to be with their loved ones when they pass away, for the person who has to die alone, to women who have had to birth alone.

I thought I would mention this here seeing as some of you have wondered how it works with new arrivals coming into the country:

I flew from Aus > UK on 27th Jan. I had a bit of paperwork (my visa in my passport, my visa acceptance letter, my negative COVID test, UK passenger locator, an exemption to leave Australia, paperwork for the airline)
This was all thoroughly checked in AUS before I left. What normally takes 10-20 mins checking in for a flight, took 2 hours per person. We were the only flight leaving that night. The authorities even called the AUS government to ensure I was ok to leave.

Fast forward to arriving in the UK > it was off the plane and straight through those eGATES. There was no checking any paperwork OR even my visa for that matter! I was truly shocked.

Now we are in day 6 (I think) of iso, not one call or visit from authorities to check if we are isolating.

To say I am shocked is an understatement.

And this is why we are a total joke. 😡

I understand your shock but given you were traveling from Australia, I think you were probably considered one of the safest arrivals that day

What I meant was, this must be expensive. How did it get up & running so quickly. It’s very efficient

We have either turned a corner (the best vaccine numbers & food to door testing) or I am missing something
The big change with this is they by passing national private test and trace thats more centralised and they working with local council public health it seems to enable them to do this.

I think there are more cases than they being told.
I don't know if thye worried about
Double infection like what they found in Brazil.
South African varient becoming the main strain and out performing the b117 Kent varient or maybe a mutation between Kent and Africa forming a new varient as don't know what this e sequencing means compared to b im no scientist.

With regards to captain Tom sadly I assume family might be there as he didn't have long left.
I do hope he recovers bit whats worrying is his age that he seems caught covid ontop on pneumonia.
I know he's not in icu or ventilator but that could be more down to his age and his wishes.

I should mention... this was for everyone arriving. My apologies - let me explain

Once we got off the plane, you’re divided into UK/EU/AUS passports and all other passports

Everyone in the UK/EU/AUS passport lanes just walked straight through the eGATES

Piers on his high horse. Honestly. It annoys me as we are all in this together and that’s why people are vocalising their dismay about capt tom getting covid. Why is he trying to call everyone with an opinion different to him a troll? Correct me if I’m wrong, but he has a pretty shady past with his publishing doesn’t he? What’s his game?!

Smokescreen, to detract from his Antigua trip?

His family probably is there because he doesn’t have long left but the issue is that hundreds of thousands of families haven’t had that privilege? They’ve had to say bye on FaceTime after being unable to visit hospitals. It’s disgusting that that family has had such preferential treatment when so many would have done absolutely anything to be able to say a final goodbye.

👏🏻 I get he did a wonderful thing for the NHS but the NHS is for everyone and everyone should be treated the same. His family didn’t care about him when they dragged him to Barbados for their own gains.

If family isn’t allowed in, no ones family should be allowed in regardless of who you are.

Exactly. I mean look at Kate Garraway's husband Derek. I don't think she been in to see him at all due to the rules.

It may differ between hospitals but I know of two families who have been able to say goodbye to their relatives in person if they are dying from covid. They may only visit the hospital once and they then have to isolate for 10 days after.

Edited to add - these were recent deaths. One passed away last weekend and the family were allowed in last week. And the other in December.

I've never commented on Tattle before but I just want a little rant. I can't stop crying about how unfair everything is right now and seeing that Cpt Tom had his "family around him" has just spiralled me.

My husband died 3 months ago today from Covid and he wasn't "allowed" family around him. After alot of begging and pleading, our 7 yr old son was allowed to go in...alone...to say goodbye and hold his dads hand one last time.

I wish so badly I barged my way in and fought everyone who tried to stop me. My husband is just a number to everyone now and it all feels so....heartless and like I'm meant to just get on with life like nothings happened because well SO many people have died obviously 🙄🤷‍♀️.

Why is Tom allowed such a privilege and why are the news flaunting that in peoples faces who are already suffering with depression / grief?!

😬 sorry for my little outburst. I'm coping for anyone wondering, I'm a strong person - but this is a huge kick in my lady balls!

The vaccines will absolutely help IMO but I think it’s obvious the reduction in cases is largely down to lockdown. As much as we keep saying X million have been vaccinated, they have only received the first dose and while it offers some protection it doesn’t offer complete protection or immunity so it is unlikely to be the cause for the cases falling right now.

Sorry for your loss 💔 you don’t need to apologise for your outburst. It’s so unfair to families like yourself who didn’t get to say goodbye. Your husband isn’t just a number. Sending love to you and your son xxx
