That's awful. If we have contact with a positive patient we do not self isolate because the theory is the ppe is protecting us. We get very up close and personal and will be in a room with them for hours.
We have been told the same about staff contact. Ppe and social distanceing keep us at work even if we have been working with a positive staff member.

It's not driven by safety, but it's driven by very low staff levels 🙄

Lead by example...no better way to boost the uptake IMO have Van Tam and his mum pictured together as they receive the first doses and the cabinet lined up behind them ... I think that’s what it will take to reassure the sceptics...I wonder why Whitty and Vallance weren’t at the side of Boris as he announced this life changing news 🤔
Whitty was busy doing other things 😁

Completely agree, however I have a very good friend currently working on a Covid ICU ward who caught covid (thankfully fine, flu like systems for a few days). Her occupational health phoned her and said she could end up having disciplinary as it was “impossible” to catch covid with the PPE provided and she must be “breaking the rules”. She’s not she lives on her own and hasn’t seen family since she was sent back to the ward so she didn’t spread it to family.

So demotivating for someone newly qualified and committed to their job with the NHS.
Oh goodo, pandemic solved then. Let’s all just wear the ppe and then spreading will be impossible. Wow can’t believe the government haven’t just done that rather than spending billions on these other measures. Should have just asked this occupational health genius.

How ridiculous and horrible for your friend!

And they wonder why we are burning out. Can't see friends, can't socialise, can't keep safe from the virus, scared we will take it into work, scared we will bring it out of work, can't have Christmas, but hey we should feel lucky we have a job. Mood is so low at work, we are tired.

So sorry things are so hard at the moment platy but super grateful for you all ❤

Really hope 2021 brings better days for us all x

I'm lucky in that we are fairly protected from symptomatic women, but we do get covid positive women - (we offer tests to everyone who comes on our unit). It's just hard not to care as we normally do, not be close to your colleagues, worry if the woman who was breathing in your face was positive or not. Staffing is stretched and now we are starting to get the influx of isolation babies (don't people watch TV anymore? 😆). People are angry about the restrictions and take it out on us. I'm worried my other children may catch it from school so we have to isolate again and let my unit down. It just all feels a bit hopeless at the moment. I'm not usually someone who feels sorry for themselves but I'm having a pity party now. You are all invited 😂

A family member commented to me on how we’re having another baby when me and my partner worked non stop during lockdown number 1 🤣🤣🤣

My local birth centre is still closed, so hoping there isn’t a baby boom here with us all having to use the same hospital now 🙈

I definitely think we should wear them when we have cold/flu to help stop the spread of these viruses. Especially in close spaces.

I hate that they've had to shut so many birth centres, it takes away a lot of choice

God America’s in a bad way let’s hope the vaccine is “passed “shortly they’re losing a lot of people https://news.sky.com/story/covid-19...records-highest-daily-death-toll-yet-12149673
And that is not even including the Thanksgiving numbers yet... let's see where they are at in another 2 weeks, then another few after Christmas. YIKES

What an utterly stupid thing to say. That is like saying it is "impossible to get pregnant" using a condom, the pill, etc. Utter tosh. As nothing is completely fool-proof.

Is that all hospital deaths, I wonder? If not, I wonder if they have such high deaths due to lack of health insurance. When people don't have health insurance, they are less likely to go to the hospital as they don't want the high bills (people can lose their homes due to hospital bill debt)... Amanda Kloots husband was in the ICU for 4 months or so and she has hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of hospital bills to pay. Also thanks to Covid and people losing jobs, 20+ million Americans lost their health insurance this summer. It is sad either way.

Our friend was meant to self isolate after being in contact with someone positive. He continued to visit parents. They now have tested positive. He claims he tested negative. However, he says he has to self isolate after being in contact with his parents. Is this right even though he’s tested negative? His wife is still going out to work as she’s not seen his parents.

That is just idiotic behavior from your friend. He should have isolated for the 10 days or whatever it is when he was exposed to the first friend. It is possible that he could have actually come back positive if he got tested a few days later... that happens to people. They recommend that if you are exposed to someone who is positive, wait 5 days or so to get tested so the virus shows on the test and make sure you isolate. And yes, he needs to isolate now that he has been in contact with his parents who are positive. The wife should isolate if he starts showing symptoms/tests positive. That is how it is here. I hope his parents will be okay... I could never get over the guilt knowing I infected them due to negligence and not following protocol (not isolating when he should have).

We think he’s given them covid. So does his wife not need to isolate?

I believe she should only start to isolate if your friend starts showing symptoms/tests positive (someone please correct me if I am wrong) but the government website should have clear instructions.

Thanks. Find it suspicious as she’s not told me anything and it’s all hush hush but I suspect something isn’t right! 👀 annoys me as they are so OTT and won’t let anybody in their house, hold their baby etc but if the boot was on the other foot. Morons.

The other hospital does have a birth centre too thank god, but as I’ve only used birth centres before, it’ll stress me out when I go into labour it the birth centre is too busy and I have to go to the ward 😬
