I’d prepare for the probability that it won’t happen. My friend is a music journalist and he has heard on the grapevine that Glastonbury has been shelved for next year already. I imagine many others will follow. I just can’t see them ever being able to make a big festival COVID “secure” and the insurance bills would be enormous.
I just need a reason not to throw myself off a cliff rn so gonna keep imagining that they will happen 🙃 if not will have to pitch up my tent in the garden and take a load of drugs and have my own festival experience (I’m joking of course... I don’t have a garden)

I'm in the north east. As is typical for us it's been a crappy weather day so we took the kids for a long muddy walk.

I'm not even exaggerating when i say in the 2hrs we were out we must have passed groups of teenagers every 5 mins.

It doesn't take Einstein to realise why our figures are so bad. I'm not a curtain twitcher look at them breaking the rules tut tut type of person but what I've seen today has well and truly made me mad.

I want this to duck off as much as the next person but OBEY THE bleeping RULES MAN!!!
Of course follow the rules but the figures are so bad because it’s getting into flu season, viruses will ALWAYS spread more in winter. The vast majority of the spread is still within universities, schools, care homes and hospitals so we can’t say this is the fault of people socialising. Obviously it doesn’t help but there is a massive sector that’s being sidelined right now while the focus is on hospitality. Plus wouldn’t those teenagers have probably been in school together all week anyway, so I’d assume the damage is already done.

Same 🙄🙄 They’re not even trying to hide it either.
ive see people being like 'out for drinks with my housemates ;) cant wait to have the most housemates ever in the next few weeks'... also today i went to do my food shop on the retail park near me and driving there i saw more than 5 groups of over 6 teenage/young adults walking around not social distancing, we are tier 1 here so totally fine to be out and about with friends but not more than 6 and social distancing is important!!!

We are tier 1 but on the cusp on moving to tier 2. Tonight my daughter has a friend sleeping over from her school bubble. Making the most of it before it's banned. Seems crazy that they'll be able to spend all day together at school with no social distancing but then won't be able to socialise outside of school 🤷‍♀️

My son was negative. I'm so glad!

We take part in the ONS study and get stabbed regularly. The lady came today and asked a few different questions, including if I wear a mask in outside spaces. I said no, and asked if she thought it was needed?

She said most probably. She said from what they are seeing the virus is spreading more rapidly this time than it did the first.

I took my daughter to the park and didn't wear a mask. I just cant, not outside. I need some normality in all of this x
Glad you son tested neg .Maybe it's the new potent strain they're seeing in the US among other places that they're seeing here if they think the spread is more rapid, it'll be interesting to see if they implement mask wearing for all outdoor activities next ,it's bad enough having to wear them in shops.

Nope. There’s videos of them posing wearing visors rather than masks too.. no doubt they don’t want to ruin their makeup on their night out 🙄
This was a mask wearing problem I did not consider... whenever I go out for a meal with my husband I take my mask off and it basically has an imprint of my face in makeup on it 😂😬

I also went out for drinks and may have had twenty a few sneaky cigarettes. Did not take into account that I was wearing my mask in and out to go for each one, it ended up smelling like an ashtray 🤢 good incentive not to smoke though 😂

It feels like people have forgotten that you're supposed to SD. Rule of 6, fine meet up with 5 friends but ffs distance.

I think people have forgotten as well that social distancing also means not passing things between you/touching each others stuff - seen a lot of passing phones and other items back and forward between people whilst ive been out

Somebody did this to me earlier in a shop. A friend I've not seen for years. She gave me her phone to out my number in. I typed it in whilst thinking "tit, tit tit, in touching her phone". Hand sanitised as soon as I got back to my car.

oh im not judging - its so easy to not remember and then think oh ffs! I'm just trying to make a huge effort to remember now and if i do have to touch stuff wash my hands before/after/wash the item if possible! I carry anti-bac wipes now which are safe for devices so i can use it on phones etc if needed!

They said more contagious but less deadly

Im sure when pandemic started was 2 strains most America milder strain but said newyork and Europe had more dangerous form.
No idea if British studies done.

But how can such vast numbers at uni get it.
Over 700 at bristol unlikely they were all same halls or classes and thousands Newcastle

Maybe theres some truth its more contagious which is why masks not making a difference.

I think I wrote that out as more of a 'tit, tell me I'll be okay cry for help!". My husband said "you shouldn't have taken her phone from her". Urgh.

I'm so so careful. 2m from others at school. Not been in anyone's house since June when it was allowed.

My area is T1, and my local village is abiding by the rules (old and new). But I think some of the older people are getting a little weary of what they can and can't do, and with who and where.

Rolling out new rules that haven't really been thought through properly is just going to confuse and/or piss people off

Are there any statistics for how much that drove up numbers?

I’m losing hope for seeing my boyfriend this year. Canada has started allowing families and partners in so why can’t America?? I feel so forgotten about
no statistics because none were collected... I want to reply to you in a polite way, but yoour attitutude is insane. I feel bad you for boyfriend situation but I am leaving this thread as people like you are dirivng me mad. good luck, but your attiutide it literally making seeing your bf again soon unlikeliy and you have noone but yourself to blame tbh.

Yes they said more potent but no more deadly,,10,000 students wow ! that's a lot,,it could explain why Europe is seeing the massive surge in cases even Merkel is concerned for Germany's numbers.

It’s so weird, because during lockdown time I only heard of two people I know contracting it. It seems like everyone has it at the mo 🤯
I've said the same thing, seems really close to home this time 😩

I was thinking today....how I can see some positives? Does anyone want to join in?

- I have wonky teeth but pretty eyes, so masks are my friend. Long live the mask life.

- Lockdown meant that my tight-fisted husband capitulated on my demands for a chest freezer (ongoing since about 2009). I am now living my best middle-class-chest-freezer-owning life.

- I've avoided the stress of 3 kids birthday parties this year. #winning

- I potted flowering plants this year and they are still alive and blooming!A first for me, aged 41. Charlie Dimmock eat your heart out.

- I have been reminded how much I bloody love my own company. Going forward I will happily refuse so many more invites, because I never really appreciated before how much they stress me out.
