They've suspended their protests until the 25th but something like this was always going to happen - next time it might be worse.

What’s really annoying is the sanctimony of the middle class stunt protestors. The police are trying to protect their lives but are getting a great deal of grief in doing so.

I remember Greenham Common and had relatives on the police side trying to keep protestors from breaching the base. Stupid hags didn’t realise that they were feet away from American soil, and that as a nuclear site, the Americans were prepared to open fire on them and any unfortunate policeman trying to save them.

You see interviews with the now elderly protestors and 1) it made no difference to the presence of nukes in this country 2) they treated it like a holiday and a bit of fun when they put lives at risk.

I can see this going the same way.

I'd be interested to know the background of these protesters. Do they or have they ever lived an enjoyable life?
They have spoken about wanting to cut flights completely. How boring would that be. While I'm alive I want to enjoy life and experience other countries & cultures when I can, which involves flying. If I was to take a train or ship to some place like Asia or Africa, it would take up my entire holiday time lol. What kind of fun is that.

Was listening to Chris Packham on the radio and he was claiming its all peaceful however there's been over 300 arrests so they're obviously breaking the laws at some stage. It's also a bit pointless they are interrupting public transport as they are forcing people to drive surely? Bit of irony there. I've not actually heard any of them say what it is they are hoping to achieve. Surely the government is busy enough at the moment.

Also where is this action in other countries? They're targeting the UK government what about the rest of the world? Are they not contributing to the problem then?

Has he been out participating in these latest protests or is he bravely inspiring people from the safety of his webcam?
He is encouraging a lot of well meaning but misguided people to put themselves in harms way and risk the ire of the public.

I suspect he is sitting at home on Twitter, there was a naked lady on tv the other week who was sure XR and IB were not connected or associated with each other, but either way, XR is clearly encouraging their behaviour and allowing them to take the brunt of any violence the public may inflict.

What I do not get is why they think the government care about a traffic jam, these roads always have traffic on them, it is not new. Stop the politicians coming to and from parliament or something, not the general public who have appointments, jobs, funerals, etc to attend.

Their cause is great but their actions border on criminal activity sometimes. I don’t agree with blocking of major roads or smashing up Barclays Bank. That’s not making people want to like you. They’re no different to the thugs and rioters who burned down stuff for the sake of it during the BLM marches.

I got caught up in one of their London demos (I think it was around Marble Arch) in 2019. Some chap appeared to have glued himself on the road causing all sorts of delays and chaos. They did another protest in another city blocking a bridge which was a major route into the city. It made a friend almost miss her shift at work. The blocking also caused major major traffic jams.

Notice the ones who block motorways and march in London all go pretty damn quiet during the wintery months and when the weather is poor in general!

I dunno, I just can't think of any other explanation for why they're not just being dealt with promptly and efficiently back on day one.

I think there's some complicated legalisms around it, including but not limited to right to protest versus obstruction of carriageway, mix in some questions over reasonable force and you get a minefield that to us looks simple but to the lawyers is paved with gold.

I think the point is it's a pile of plastic and whatever else, a lot of it is single use. It's from people claiming they care but can't use a reusable water bottle or are chucking carrier bags, which a lot of us don't do. It's a bit hypocritical to claim they care about the planet but are doing less than the average person.

By their own logic, I'd say they already are!
And when gluing themselves to the roads and inevitably obstructing ambulances they were getting pretty close, whether deliberately or simply failing to think it through which seems to be a major common feature.

Would the actual surface of the stones have some kind of legal protectionattached/implied like with certain listed buildings or something?
Seeing lichens spray painted has set me off a bit which is uncommon for me.
Wouldn't be surprised if access to the site is totally prohibited after this. (I know there's existing access covenants already)
