I don't think people realise what an excruciatingly rude, personal and potentially very painful question it is to ask someone why they don't have kids. The fact she had to give a reason why she didn’t have children.
Totally agree. My mother in law has started to tell us that 'you're not getting any younger'.I don't think people realise what an excruciatingly rude, personal and potentially very painful question it is to ask someone why they don't have kids.
We really need to normalise saying "It's none of your (bleeping) business", regardless of the reason, until everyone learns to stop asking.
A big part of my answer is because I've never wanted them and always wanted to dedicate myself to my career, but there is also stuff in there about my abusive crappy ex husband who took up my entire 30s and refused to have sex with me, and then being diagnosed with an incurable neurological condition, and having a current partner who absolutely does not want kids and would not look after them, so why the duck would I want to bring kids into that situation? But sure, go ahead and ask me why I don't have children, Mrs Random Nosy Person.
They didn’t let them stay did they?! I wonder if it was booked independently and they’re just trying it on or if a tour operator has cocked up.Currently on holiday adults only hotel (16+) went to reception to ask about something and a family of 4 were checking in mum dad and 2 sons. The receptionist takes their passports and has a look.
Receptionist- so your son is 15 this hotel is 16 and over
Mum - yeah i know but he’s 16 this year
Receptionist - yes at the end of December this hotel is for over 16s he is 15
Mum - but he’s 16 this year whats the problem
The cheek of it! Did they let them stay?!Currently on holiday adults only hotel (16+) went to reception to ask about something and a family of 4 were checking in mum dad and 2 sons. The receptionist takes their passports and has a look.

Hope you say “you’re not either, and it shows”Totally agree. My mother in law has started to tell us that 'you're not getting any younger'.
They did let them stay!? The mum started kicking off a saying that she did call the hotel before and they said it was fine. Which i know just know is absolute rubbish. Husband stood there gormless not saying a word and kids glued to their phone. They didn’t let them stay did they?! Wow which company was this with? They did let them stay!? The mum started kicking off a saying that she did call the hotel before and they said it was fine. Which i know just know is absolute rubbish. Husband stood there gormless not saying a word and kids glued to their phone.
Don’t know why you’d put yourself in the situation of potentially getting turned away and having to find somewhere else to stay last minute And completely unfair on the hotel
No idea why the kid isn’t at school this week
I feel like since covid no one can be bothered with the basics anymore! Like the rate of kids being absent from school is really high, especially on a Friday. And stuff like increasing rates of abuse of shop workers. Just this general feeling of 'whatever' from people. After seeing in this thread about kids not being in car seats I saw this TWICE today?! In the space of about half an hour. One time was 2 boys about 4 both standing on the passenger seat and both screaming pretending to be police sirens out the open window as it drove along. Next was a young girl maybe 3 in the back seat with the window down again stood up looking out of it…. In moving cars?! WTF is actually going on with people. Why does nothing bad ever happen to them either I don’t get it?! Why are there no consequences even being pulled over for child endagerment. I was in a serious car accident as a kid after someone hit us when we were just parked up but these absolute knobs are just driving around not a care in the world like it’s a theme park ride. I dunno what’s happened since covid but everyone’s just lost any sense
It's as though society has gone feral from lack of socialisationI feel like since covid no one can be bothered with the basics anymore! There's an article in The Times today with a similar situation but thankfully they didn't let the child stay (much to the parents dismay). It seems like these parents are repeat offenders who finally got their comeuppanceCurrently on holiday adults only hotel (16+) went to reception to ask about something and a family of 4 were checking in mum dad and 2 sons. Aw I loved her! I never knew she didn't have children but somehow assumed, I guess. She had unmatched vivacity, I hope she had a great time being alive.Iris Apfel has died at 102, I didn't know she hadn't had children, but I was cheered when I read about her thoughts on this, and maintaining a sense of wonder in your life

Pisses me off honestly. Your child is a child. Get out of our adult only hotels that we’ve paid a premium for 🫣There's an article in The Times today with a similar situation but thankfully they didn't let the child stay (much to the parents dismay). My godmother said the same yesterday. She’s childfree too and completely understands why I don’t want them. The climate and planet in general are fucked enough as it is!There was a segment on Jeremy Vine earlier about being childfree by choice and a woman wrote in with a brilliant response to the "selfish" criticism most of us childfree folk get. I'm massively paraphrasing but she basically said people who choose to have children with our overpopulation and climate change etc. are the selfish ones. It's a nice little comeback I'm saving for future interactions
