Maybe this should go in the Zoella thread but hard disagree there. Zoella (the media brand rather than the person) hasn't been making content for 13-year-olds for years. A quick browse of their feed and there's articles about adoption, revenge porn, endometriosis etc. These are topics relevant to adults, not kids. As the exam board says in its statement - her content used to be suitable for kids but isn't anymore, but that doesn't make it wrong. They've made the right decision in removing it from the syllabus but her articles have every right to remain live.

To bring things back around to Carrie... I agree with her on this. Zoe Sugg is an adult making content for adults, the media are making a fuss over nothing. And I do have kids 😊

—————
I agree with you (maybe coming from a different angle) - if Zoe’s been making content for years for adults then fine I’m not advocating anything should be taken down but it’s right that her content has been dropped by the exam board (as far as her contribution goes) as she says herself she no longer focusses on teen issues. I’m not advocating censorship across the board as long as material is ‘age appropriate’ and this is what’s been done I think. It was the responsible thing to do by AQA.
I think what made me cross was not necessarily Zoe (you do you Zoe) it was the sanctimony of Carrie jumping on another’s loudspeaker as usual. On her soapbox. Carrie has always marketed herself as a big ‘sister’ only very recently trying to make that leap to ‘auntie’ - there is no content anywhere I can see that she makes that makes me think she writes for adults about adult issues: and so for her to lump herself in with Zoe ‘adults making contents for other adults’ made me laugh.

TBH I’m very surprised Carrie wrote the post at all. She must be scrabbling around for content (read: something to getting annoyed about on somebody’s else’s behalf) Andrew Lloyd Webber is very protective of his brand and Carrie will have to be careful what she says and who she supports while marketing Cinderella. Getting into rows about sex toys maybe not a great look for the show which even if it isn’t for them will attract kids and the parents of kids.

I didn’t know what Carrie was on about at first because I don’t follow Zoella. Just looked it up and Zoella was included on the GCSE Media Studies syllabus with AQA (students studying all of Zoella’s social media). Of course they are going to drop her when she talks about sex toys! It’s nothing about censoring an adult talking about sex. These are 14/15/16 year olds doing GCSE Media Studies! It’s completely inappropriate for high school students to be watching that kind of content for their GCSEs. My parents had to sign a waiver for me to watch Schindler’s List in History when I was 13. Imagine a parent getting a letter from a school saying the school needed permission to let a student watch a YouTube video with an Internet personality reviewing sex toys for their coursework!? I can’t imagine any parent giving permission for that. My parents are quite laid back- even they think it’s inappropriate!
AQA isn’t telling Zoella to take down the video, they just aren’t including her on the syllabus anymore because the content is no longer appropriate. Do Zoella’s fans understand that media studies is not the subject to learn about sex toys? My sex education at school was learning about condoms and safe sex in PSE and looking at the reproductive system in biology. I really don’t understand the logic behind the complaints about Zoella being dropped from AQA. And it sounds like Carrie is just jumping on it to make herself sound ‘woke’ about feminism. This isn’t about feminism - it’s a question of what is appropriate to be on the syllabus of a GCSE subject. That is all!
update- just found out it was an article on her website not a video- but again AQA just dropped her from the curriculum, didn’t force her to take it down. I really don’t understand how the conversation turned into a comment on teaching masturbation in school. The subject in question is Media Studies. Yes sex education does need to be taught better in school, but not in Media Studies. Have edited out some statements I made once I got more context.

I do agree that Carrie trying to align herself with Zoe Sugg is pretty laughable. She really tries to be an adult and show that she drinks and has all the sexy sex sex but it just comes off like an overshare. Zoella's core audience have probably aged with her and she's stayed relevant to their interests. Carrie's core audience are growing out of her, fast.

Exactly what I meant. But better worded 😂

Are her and Oli still together? Dropped away from her insta/threads for a while until she reappeared today 🤷‍♀️

Her “but it’s gonna take a lot for me to caption these lyrics” has kind of annoyed me. If you really don’t want to do it, don’t upload the story but a lot of people rely heavily on caption. I know it’s a small thing and I’m over thinking it all but as someone who has many family members deaf and hard of hearing, it’s a big deal to me that things are inclusive

Just found out that Zoe didn’t even know she was on curriculum, admits that her content isn’t teen friendly anymore and that the comment on female sex education was an after thought. Carrie’s insta story makes even less sense now! Does Carrie even know what she’s talking about? Did she even read the articles? Is she just making stuff up based on the headlines? I don’t think she’s even looked at Zoella’s response to it. I just had a look Zoe’s Instagram and even she admits it shouldn’t be on a gcse curriculum! Of the articles I’ve seen talking about Zoe being dropped from the curriculum, none of them have made comments about sex education. Just that her website wasn’t appropriate for the Media Studies GCSE anymore. Zoe herself brought up masturbation in response to the articles announcing the AQA was dropping her and how she would have loved her own website as a form of education when she was a teenager. I am aware that Zoella has been using her platform as a form of sexual education ie live-streaming a Pap smear, for a few years now. Whether you like Zoe or not, she’s done so much for women who look up to her. The conversation about sex education in school is completely separate to Zoe being dropped by AQA- but somehow her fans are merging them together as if it’s all connected. It isn’t.
On Zoe’s thread here on tattle, the main focus is on what is Zoella’s target audience on her website. They don’t seem to really care about AQA. It looks like Zoe’s target audience has had a big question mark over it for a while.

Sorry for waffling about Zoella but Carrie’s response to the whole thing confused me so much that I went down a Zoella shaped rabbit hole trying to figure out what was going on. Learned more than i needed to know about Zoe Sugg in the process lol

Edit- also, just want to add that I know it was started by some parents complaining to AQA about Zoe’s website and the article in question, but again what parents want their 14/15/16 year olds learning about sex toys in a Media Studies class? If they are going to learn that anywhere in a school setting it would be in a class dedicated to sex education.

It all made me laugh because she didn't put those stories up until after she realized Zoe was sharing posts from other creators about the situation. Maybe I'm cynical, but Carrie reeks of clout-chasing.

It's really disappointing, but I'm realizing the only reason I liked Carrie was because of her theatre content. It was never because I liked her.

Apparently they are. He rarely appears with her on social media anymore though.
i must admit though I’ve noticed a distinct lack of Oli on her socials, at least compared to when they were doing the tic tok dances Etc- unless he’s needed as the answer to a question her Instagram stories and posts are all sponsored, herself or Edgar

They've been together for quite a while now, I guess they just post about each other less because it's not as much of a novelty anymore

If he’s under contract to Frozen Disney are fiercely protective of their brand. He has to be extremely cautious with his social media and as we know his girlfriend is only even one step away from a Twitter meltdown. Ollie will get lots of young followers and maybe a GF posting about vibrators isn’t a good look at the minute 😂
Particularly now we’ve been made aware she’s ‘an adult creating content for adults’ I guess we can expect less of yawny faces and Edgar the wonder cat and more juicy stuff 😉
....
Nope. It’ll still be all yawning and cat stuff.

Carrie just posted the stories to be featured in Zoe’s IG. That’s the sad truth.

Carrie doesn’t have any idea what her audience is, according to her her books are for adults but her brand is mostly for teenager (like with the auntie thing) she really censors herself on videos to make it ~friendly~ and now she is trying to be a children’s writer (which I assumed bombed).

In another note I’m curious if she has slowly being buying followers on IG she has been getting over 10k when her content is so dull and she keeps losing followers in twitter and I assume YouTube too. She is definitely not getting 10k for making a Patrick star impression

Yes it’s like she’s seahorsing about getting swept along on this money making project or that without any ‘brand’ or audience in mind. Jack of all trades master of none. Forgot about the short lived stint as a children’s author. As a children’s author writing ‘cosy’ non issue led fiction can you imagine Tom Fletcher putting up anything political or ‘adult’ themed either independently or in support of another instagrammer?
Carrie leaps onto the next ‘cause’ because it’s a worthy sound bite or as someone said further up she might get clout or followers by tagging in. If she was a serious children’s author then her publishing house would advise getting involved in anything that could be deemed controversial (see Disney/Oliver starting his Twitter again)
And if she was serious about being offered another stint writing kids stories about ballet schools (age group 7-11) and the like she should take care what she posts.
I think the first thing Carrie needs to do for 2021 is focus on who her target audience is and build from there. She’s stuck between her old career of being a YouTuber/influencer and seems to spend a lot of her time trying to catch up with Tom and Gi (children’s author, contemporary fiction, podcast, forming a ‘super’ band - remember The Cardinals? etc etc) but cannot sustain the audience they do.
It seems Zoella has moved onto the ‘big kids’ maybe it’s time for Carrie to do the same

Carrie preaching about being "an adult making content for adults" is precious coming from the person who stars out letters in swear words and encourages people to pay her to do mediocre tit on Cameo. No way is her Cameo targeted at adults, no adult would pay to hear her scream Into the Unknown in front of her gin shelves.

Carrie really needs a social media manager because she has no clue what she wants her image to be. She’s jumping from one edgy cause to another. Just chill out and stop being so desperate to stay relevant.

I really don't know many people that still watch her/look up to her? She's definitely not very relevant nowadays. I'd say she's kinds slipped off the radar even with Cindermehla.
