I’m finding the hypocrisy regarding CF’s alleged crime and the way many are saying ‘if this was a man....’ to be erm, amusing. Google Paul Gascoigne- the first descriptive word that comes up in my search box is ‘legend’, not wife beater, but legend.

I've been reading through this thread all day and it's exactly like the previous one, yous all arguing with each other, contradicting each other, how do you know this who said that, is that aimed at me, was you there, did you know her?? When you sit back and read it all from the beginning it's absolutely sad and a bit heartbreaking really!

It’s really sad that she’s killed herself and the reality is we will never now know what happened on that night. Hope her family and friends get all the support they need at this difficult time.

one thing I do find uncomfortable though is the double standards in the media/public opinion. People are quick to say ‘innocent until proven guilty’ about Caroline now, but they are often pretty happy to make snap judgments about others who haven’t been convicted of anything eg Shamima Begum.

It was similar with Princess Diana - she was absolutely demonised when alive for all sorts of reasons but as soon as she died was seen as this angelic/perfect person. The truth is always more complicated - everyone is both good and bad. Nobody is 100% one or the other.

That petition is hilarious. 'Safeguarding' celebrities? Are they a protected group now, like people with a disability?

Utter nonsense. Flack, like every single 'influencer' discussed in these pages, developed a public persona crafted from the manipulation of public opinion, usually done through their own private PR teams. The story is the same in each case; they try to control the narrative and when they can't they complain about 'trolls' and being hounded by the media. Meghan Markle and Harry are currently doing exactly the same thing; employing expensive Hollywood PR to drip feed positive stories to the press all the while complaining about the stories they can't control.

Flack used social media to try and influence the direction of the case. This. along with the facts of the case would not have helped her cause. She was clearly very badly advised and should have pleaded guilty and avoided a trial.

Davis has her own PR drip feeding stories to the press when it suits her. She needs to ask her PR how the system actually works, especially when it comes to attributing spin to unnamed 'sources'. Davis will have profitted from these tactics. Celebrities don't need more protection, but we need more protection from those with large platforms who attempt to control the debate.

There are existing laws that cover much of what's in that petition and there are new regulations for social media in the pipeline. Unfortunately too many of those on Twitter will take Davis at face value and not realise that she is part of the problem and not part of the solution.

I just can’t help but feel so disturbed by the news.
To think that in her final moments she believed the world hated her, which is what it seemed. Tabloids destroyed her, we all condemned her, she lost her job and probably a lot of friends and was likely set on going to prison.

Yes it was because of her own actions....and no she shouldn’t of got away with it.
But she must have thought she deserved to die. There was no coming back from this.
And to be honest, it would of been very hard for her to come back! But that’s an awful thought.
I won’t sit here and say she was this amazing, inspirational role model because i really didn’t rate her at all. But it’s awfully tragic that she felt no other option than to erase herself from existence.

I really, really hope her ex has people close to him.
people trolled Sophie from love islands ex and he went and killed himself not long after. Hopefully history doesn’t repeat itself.
THIS. I wont condone her behaviour with her boyfriend by any means, I wasnt there so I purely cant comment on it. But I've been there in that position, day in day out, ticking by, dealing with nasty people or people taking a loan of me and leaving me feeling like I have done something wrong and leave me feeling lonely and hated. So many times I've thought to myself I just want to end it. My heart hurts at the thoughts I've had, I'm just so glad that I have gotten myself back out that dark place on numerous times before I've actually done anything. I've never had any interest in love island or know much about her etc but for her to have taken her own life... I cant even think about how deeply she must have been hurting inside. I'm so heart broken for her and her family.

It’s very sad and she was obviously in a bad place. If you look at her last Instagram post she looks like she’s under the influence of something. I wished she had got help but I hate that people are going to use her death to say that the Police shouldn’t proceed with convictions when the victims withdraw their statements. Domestic violence is so dangerous and action needs to be taken whether the victim supports it or not.
DV is a victimless crime - they don’t need the support of the victim and although what’s happened is absolutely tragic i don’t agree that the cps were in the wrong. I work in criminal law and the amount of normal vulnerable people that are charged daily is huge but you don’t see the cps get bad press then because these people have committed suicide. Why because she’s a celeb should she be treat any differently?

She finds out she’s going to trial and kills herself. I wonder whether she knew whatever would come out about her would have been humiliating so took the other way out?

I don’t condone any violence - two exes tell me it’s not a one off - and so I don’t feel anything except sad for her family.

Love Island cancelled again tonight
I wish it was cancelled for ever, a bunch of narcisstic show offs being in situations that should be private. In real life its bad enough if a guy you fancy goes off with another woman at a club or in work or whatever but on national TV???? its parading the most private feelings in a very public domain no wonder it causes suicides. It should have been called the sex and humiliation island

Mental health issues and drug taking is too blame. How people can blame the CPS and media is beyond me. Fir all we know it could’ve even been an accidental overdose.
What I find worrying is that her family knew she was in a fragile state and didn’t do anything. I think this is the problem when people become your enablers instead of getting you help
The first post on this thread says to go easy on Caroline’s family. I suggest you go have a read and then read it again.

All her celebrity friends banging on about how amazing she was and how they're going to miss her....... Why the fuck didn't you check in on her, drop her a text to say hi or a call to say 'are you OK? Do you need to talk about it?' or drop in on her and have a coffee or something!? If you were that much of a friend you would have made sure she was OK every step of the way through this trial she was heading into.
How do you know they didn’t? She had a friend staying with her at the time, popped out to the shop and when she returned Caroline had done what she did. You can’t control someone’s actions and emotions so I think it’s unfair for people to insinuate that her friends weren’t trying to support her. Unless you’re in someone’s life 24/7 you don’t know what happens!

In the eyes of most people here it seems, yes!

I don’t know the details of what happened but hearing people talk about “domestic abuse” “brutally beaten” etc it makes her sound like she was kicking the shit of the guy all the time as part of her daily routine.

If it’s true her fella had an affair, she self harmed then threw a lamp at him then some of the comments on here are very sad (and quite scary) if you ask me.

There’s a big difference between calculated brutal attacks & domestic abuse over throwing something at someone as a one off when she was severely depressed and needed mental help.

Abuse (by its very definition) is about being in control and abusing your position/power over someone whether that be mentally, physically or both. She was clearly not in control of even her own self let alone someone else!
Finally someone speaking sense!

Most of the people hashtagging the BE KIND mantra are some of the biggest trolls or make a living from writing pieces for newspaper columns being extremely unkind indeed
total and utter hypocrisy at its best.
watching them blame the CPS ... but if their loved one was struck by a partner with a lamp they’d be singing from a different hymn sheet.
Yes, she was troubled ... I think possibly cocaine could have played a part in both the assault and her mental health... No one knows the absolute truth apart from the boyfriend and Caroline and unfortunately she’s taken that to the grave with her... it’s very very sad it’s easy to make scape goats of the CPS, The Media, ITV, LoveIsland etc
but at the end of the day she committed a serious offence that night and it’s just extremely tragic that she’s paid for it with her life ... May she Rest in Peace

Very informative insight from a Barrister particularly relevant to CF's situation is this part-

As a prosecution and defence barrister, I see frequently how, save in cases where an accused has severe mental health problems that impact upon the legalities of the trial process, there is little consideration for the impact of proceedings upon a defendant’s welfare.

Rarely is it acknowledged how the strain of the criminal process - whether the allegation is true or not - can affect a person. Can break a person. And this lack of care pervades not only the system, but our society.

And let's not forget that the stress of a trial is bad enough for the average person, but CF being a famous celebrity would have meant the papers/TV cameras/paps hounding her everyday and exposing all her private details over the front pages and social media. I can't imagine having to go through that very public humiliation and intrusion, especially if I was suffering depression and other mental health issues.

This should all have been taken into account by the CPS when deciding whether to prosecute, but it sounds like they either overlooked her mental health issues or didn't take them seriously enough.
The criminal justice system has been cut to the bone. It takes months, even years to bring some cases to court because there is not enough money to pay judges and court staff to sit. Courts have been closed up and down the country, compounding the delays.
Police budgets have been cut and they are only in the process of recruiting more officers.

I doubt the CPS or police would have wilfully ignored the mental health concerns of Caroline Flack. However there is no money or slack in the system to take care of defendants or victims for that matter. Mental health is complex and we know the NHS is poorly equipped to treat mental health problems across the population. There is clearly an issue with this but only now people care about it because someone famous has died, but no one gives a shit about the ordinary people who get funnelled through this system.

I personally think the criminal justice system would be frightening for the average person, struggling to fund their defence because they have no entitlement to legal aid, whereas a celebrity can fund a good defence team to help them navigate the system. I imagine many people end up with mental health problems because of the stress and money it costs. But again no one cares about ordinary people or the system that has been failing people for years.

Itv news about CF. I'm disgusted that two quotes from celebrities, one from bloody Philip schofield and the other ant & Dec. The two biggest cover ups in ITV. 🙄
Exactly. Ant drives drunk and keeps his job. Caroline loses hers before being found guilty! Not bloody fair. I bet her ‘friends’ dropped her. Sad sad news.

The self harming because she read texts from other women - gaslighting. My ex girlfriend started cutting herself whenever I did *anything* she didn’t like as a way to manipulate me. So it leaves a bad taste for me.

The thing that gets me (and I suffer terribly with my mental health. Suicidal thoughts, ideation and numerous attempts) is how low and desperate she must have felt in that moment she attempted.
I don’t care what she did and yes I know there are consequences for whatever happened that night but for someone to feel so bad they are at the point of no return. Something so drastic to end it all. Alone and probably incredibly distressed with no one to talk to. That’s the most horrible part about it.
feeling suicidal and feeling like that is your only option is a horrendous place to be in.
No matter what her actions were towards Lewis, towards any of her previous boyfriends, everyone deserves someone to confide in at their lowest point. That was hers and she felt like she had no one.
Or maybe she reached that point and attempted, as a cry for help but was actually successful. If she had survived I’m sure she would have been called attention seeking. That’s what’s wrong with this world. Not enough understanding for how people really feel to end up reaching the action of irreversible suicide.
It’s so sad. She’s not the first and won’t be the last.

This has been pissing me off since last night but whatever.
There have been a number of posts about how we don’t know what happened the night of, and for some reason we’ve got the crack team of CSI: Tattle on the case, talking about which blood evidence belongs to who and stating the obvious. Some of the more horrid ones are questioning the boyfriend’s input and responsibility of the alleged assault. The amount of minimising DV is astounding.
The only thing we know is that the police were called and the CPS have reason to bring to court. It was widely reported that the bf was fearing for his life.
We don’t know what happened and probably won’t know. Any and every narrative is speculation. And speculation from a high horse is still speculation.

Should itv be responsible? Should
Employers be responsible for sorting out their employees mental health?
They said they were sad to see her go and that they would welcome her back apparently in their statement. ITV shouldn't have to hold the hand of their staff and parent them and be responsible.

Why are people constantly trying to shift the blame? The media, the CPS, ITV... when the only person to blame for all of this in the first place is Caroline and her actions.

exactly. the same mob of people shouting be kind, have also moved onto their next targets - dan wootton, love island, the cps to lay blame. Wanting a head on a spike and to ban newspapers, social media and anyone with an opinion whilst simultaneously salivating over the circumstances and details of the whole sorry affair that played out in the last few months of her life. The hypocrisy is everywhere.
Its laughable at this point.
And I hate to constantly sound like I’m on some kind PR spin for this site, but I don’t go on twitter, I don’t comment on there, I don’t visit someones social media to tell them what I think of them or what I dislike about them.
I come her and gossip about celebrities and Influencers who put themselves in the limelight.
I’m not going to saint anyone because they’ve passed, even under these circumstances, celebrities who turned their back on her now crying on twitter and Instagram to make themselves look good,
the public that dragged her, now holding up as an angel amongst us, the hypocrisy is unreal

Twitter has a mob mentality, And I’m STILL not arguing that it should be removed, there has never been a time in history when people didn’t gossip and speculate and discuss celebrity culture!!
But the same people crying over her death found it acceptable to go onto her ex’s Instagram and blame him, blame journalists for doing their job, twitter is filled with blame blame blame.

the aggression hasn’t changed, the tone stays the same, the tweets of outrage screaming they want change whilst blasting the next victim,
but they started a hashtag so their hands are clean now 😐 influencers posted a story so that’s their bit done.

I'm happier discussing events here, knowing everyone and nobody is to blame when shit happens..
a series of events lead to this. As it does with all suicide cases

I'm so fed up of idiots that don't have two brain cells to rub together saying because the victim didn't want to prosecute the CPS should have dropped it. No, no, no, no, no! It doesn't work like that, quite rightly as the professionals need to do what's in the public interest.
