People say that he went to Barbados on the 11th of December, Hannah posted on the 2nd of January a picture of the beach, so that’s plenty of time to have had the pneumonia that lead to COVID, I 100% believe he’d be with us today had he not gone on that trip, that also didn’t seem to require any masks or social distancing.

They went away long before the vaccine started its rollout in his area. I think it's probably people assuming he'd had it and others rolling with it.

I'm more interested in the actual dates as the families version of events does contradict what was previously posted on social media. I think they've been dishonest about how quickly he was hospitalized after returning and tried to make it seem like longer to avoid/ pass on blame.

Where's all the ba staff and hospital staff that posted here to backup the dates? 🤨

I feel pretty crappy after a long flight, god knows what it does to your body. Then theres going from 30 degree heat to 0 back here. Impossible to say that didn't cause the pneumonia.
Have to say I managed to get a freebie upgrade to First once on a long flight and it’s the first time I’ve never felt rough....but I’m not 100. It also spoilt me for flying long haul again 😂

I know you’ll all enjoy this, someone on a local FB page has shared a letter they have sent to Eddie Stobart insisting that they should name a truck after him and have his face on the sides 🤦🏻‍♀️

Sky news was going on about "why are you using an old man for your gain? Dressing him up in medals. The veteran doesn't even understand. Why are you torturing him. He'll have a heart attack. He shouldn't be used like this!" I thought thank duck they're finally asking Hannah the right questions! But it's about the Russian opposition leader navalny 🤣🤦

A friend of mine got blocked by Piers Morgan on twitter for asking why he wasn't angry at Cliff Richard's lack of social distancing with Tom.
The funniest thing I have ever read. 😂🤣

2021 is turning out to be just as surreal as 2020!

He blocks anyone who decides to challenge him. Big girl‘s blouse he is. 😂

I find that blocking is the coward's way of showing that you've either lost the argument or have no valid comeback.
Well as to the question of why Cliff wasn't properly distancing.......he definitely didn't!

I just cannot believe he would have gone on such a long flight, espeically not during this time, it just seems like such a bad idea on so many levels. I am young and healthy and wouldn't risk taking a flight anywhere atm, let alone a long haul one

Oh I’m glad I’ve found this thread, no disrespect to the poor man but all this fawning is making my blood pressure rise.
Firstly I’m sorry but you can’t condemn the influencers for travelling and praise Tom for doing the same thing because it was legally allowed- you can legally marry your cousin it doesn’t make it right.
Secondly why haven’t BA gifted all the other people who did the same as Tom albeit without the media coverage and fanfare a voucher for them to travel once the pandemic is over?
What really gets me is the fact he was 100 and nearing the end of his life seems to give him a pass for example my husband is in all support because he was dying but when I said well when I get my 82 year old grandads shopping tomorrow instead of dropping it at the door I’m going to go inside and have a cup of tea & a slice of cake with him I got “you can’t you’re not allowed, your not in the bubble with him”.

I wonder if the trip was insured.
It would be interesting to see quotes on direct line etc for a very elderly person going long haul.

I feel like this is the one place i can say my piece! I made a post before Tom died saying that it was so irresponsible of his family to take him there, when i wont even see my 83 year old grandad who lives alone and is entitled to a bubble, because we do not want to put him at risk and he is petrified of dying alone in hospital so he doesn't see anyone, and wont until hes recieved his second vaccine. I have a family friend who has continuously made facebook posts about those 'slagging Tom off' and hopes that they all feel crap now! I knew it was about me, so i told her how i felt and that i didn't feel crap, it is terribly sad that he has died, but 100,000 others in the UK have died from coronavirus, unable to fulfill their bucket lists and haven't been clapped for. We have majorly fallen out over this and i just can't believe the hipocrisy. A road near us had a 'street party' where everyone stayed on their own driveways, whilst one neighbour did a dj set just after christmas. She was first on the bandwagon saying how unacceptable it was even if its out in fresh air! I have seen several of the same people who have been slating the influencers in Dubai - who i do not agree with - but when it's Captain Tom, it's fine! I have had to delete facebook on my phone after seeing post after post and petitions about two minute silences on the day he died and his birthday, statues, his face on currency and his birthday to become a national holiday etc. Posts about those who disagree with him going away being 'rum' and 'evil'. Another point noted was that his family, after being with him on his death bed, whilst he had covid, were not isolating at all (as seen during the clap)?? Maybe i am just cold hearted, but i really can't understand the outpour. What he did for the NHS was great at his age, but without public donations, no one would even know who he is!! Rant over!

Poor Captain Tom - his ghastly family seem like absolute chancers. Poor old fella probably just wanted to stay at home and watch The Repair Shop.
His family remind me of someone similar on Twitter, the son of Harry Leslie Smith. He was an old man who wrote numerous books and was an active campaigner about the environment well into his 90s. When he died his son took over his SM and just appears to live off his memory and has made it his profession.
These children don't realise (or do and just don't care) that they are slowly but surely tarnishing the name of the person who did all the work.

Captain Tom had probably taken the view that he's 100. He's not going to live forever. Live every day etc. Spending weeks ill with pneumonia, including time spent in hospital where he caught Covid and then returning to hospital and dying, was, I think sadly not considered. In pre Covid days, it would have been daft, given how many germs are in recirculated air on planes.

In the middle of a global pandemic when we were told it was risky to see family, even for Christmas, and really risky to see vulnerable people, travelling to Barbados and being with god knows how many complete strangers, is off the stupidity scale. Let's not forget that if Tom had met Cliff Richard, Russ Abbot and loads of cricketers in the UK, he'd have broken the law. I can't see my parents, but Tom can meet complete strangers. The only person he didn't have a photo taken with is Elvis.

I've just been reading this article in the DM. It is very similar to the one that someone posted a link to yesterday, I am amazed at the change of opinion.

What I meant to say, was the change in opinion, by the people in the comment section of this article.

having my rant .... it is sad that he has died and yes he did a lot of awareness and fundraising for the nhs but are we really going to see those millions. also, i totally disagree that he was made an exception to have family there when he died, daughter and grandkids. i have had to make many a calls to patients relatives saying only one can attend for end of life not the whole family. imagine all those relatives of those who have died thinking was my family member not special enough to be made an exception.
also, dont get me started on the clap :oops:.
and whats with the whole he deserves a statue - yes he raised millions but what about all those front liner nhs staff who put their lives at risk of covid every single day and died as a result of it, why dont they get a clap, why dont they get a statue, they did more for the nhs than raise some money for it

rant over
