Glad you all ‘ enjoyed’ the documentary I feel very humble and blessed that you all followed my recommendation to view this life altering documentary. I’m trying to emulate the way Steven McCann and wife talk but it’s surprisingly difficult!!
It also came up on the screen after CTM as a recommendation to watch online. I hadn’t realised it was done a few years back.

Heidi Thomas is the guest on the new episode of Fortunately with Fi Glover and Jane Garvey. 
I think the writers are focusing too much on ensuring it's a cosy drama full of twee-ness. The social attitudes aren't correct for that era. People weren't as tolerant and non-judgemental in the 1950/60's. The writing and the scripts have become cringeworthy and as much as I admire Vanessa Redgrave, I find the script of her narration toe-curling.
Nurse Lucille's wig is very bouffant. It almost resembles a crash helmet.

I fell asleep while watching it.
Yup that he and his wife appeared in 2 episodes for a storyline that could have easily fit in to one, that plot point was telegraphed from miles away. I also read that the show may revisit Trixie's alcoholism...so if he ends up being a distillery/restaurant/hotel owner, the show will have definitely jumped the shark for me!
Aren't the midwives also supposed to be religious to some extent? The idea that they look at something and just go 'oh it's cool' seems a bit far-fetched on that alone
I also sort of hate how sort of obvious Trixie's storyline with the widower seems to be. Obviously a lot could go wrong (and it seems that it will) but I reckon she'll get a happy ending anyway
One of the things that sticks out for me is that there’s not an actual friendship between the midwives now. Previously, they were much closer and we’d see them gather in of their rooms to chat or do their hair etc. It’s those kinds of things that makes characters whole and get people invested. They’re all very one dimensional now and I don’t really care what happens either way. Although I do hope Trixie finally gets her happy ending!
I love the friendship between Phyllis and Mrs Higgins! Just two women enjoying each others company without any men!
For some reason I thought that Sr Francis was going to go to the dentist and it would be Christopher, Trixies former boyfriend!
If you listen to the Fortunately podcast with Heidi Thomas and Fi Glover interviewing Heidi Thomas, you will hear her say that when she first met Dr. Turner that he ate with one arm wrapped around his plate due to him having to protect his food from all his brothers.
I do too! I've loved Phyllis from the beginning and I think it was an inspired move to make them friends. Miss Higgins reminds me so much of my aunt it's uncanny! I agree, there doesn't seem to be any kind of relationship between the midwives anymore, maybe it's because they are so busy being a midwife down they don't have the time to socialise?
Or is it a filming restriction thing? They can't film scenes where they are socialising naturally with social distancing in place?
Speaking of social distancing, I noticed it a lot last night and I hadn't previously. A lot of passing things to each other with outstretched arms and practically throwing them at each other, Sr Hilda passing the thermometer to Louise to put under her own arm, the oversized picnic blanket with Lucille and Cyril perched on each end of it. And cutting out the birth scene altogether. But there were some lovely scenes like the ones with Phyllis and Miss Higgins eating their sandwiches which shows with a bit of creativity it can be done.
