It does seem to be the case, although I wouldn’t stop with just likes, overall engagement such as comments, following more people, responding to their stories and sharing them, all of that counts. I’m a printmaker in my free time and I’m trying to establish a small business to sell my prints. Instagram is a huge platform for me and has also a really great supportive creative community. Being active within that community definitely gets the algorithm on your side!
Yup. I don't really know that much about instagram but when one of my best friends was doing a blog back in the day (yeah, I'm old), she set aside hours every single day, to go through a list of people and comment on their pages and like etc. This drove up her following and views. It was such a giant mindfuck to me at the time. Like what? What a pointless, circuitous waste of time. So.much.effort. And revelation as to how phony it all was. LOL. But I do see now that it's the way it works and important if you have a business to get more exposure to customers (Readinginks obvs has substance).
I don't equate online popularity with talent but feel many do right? Sure there's a correlation but it's equally possible that they have little talent in their declared area of expertise (design, fashion etc) and are just sly marketers and mimics. I had a illustration professor from Japan who was very popular in the 1980's and 90's. He was absolutely genius. Awe inspiring. Zero online presence - which you know - given his age, understandable but reinforced to me at the time how much it's not an indication of much of anything creatively.
Click baiting everyone with headlines and WTF type expressions can rack up the points faster and easier. At least Brittany doesn't do much of that in an obvious way I guess, but I don't see her as a creative. Anything she does that seems cool can be traced back to copying, almost directly, another.
Can you hear my distain? Ha!
PS
Should we continue this thread?
I kind of feel like at this stage she's not worth the discussion or critique? She's become a boring trope of herself. I could just as easily comment on her occasionally on the Lindsey/ Lizzy thread.
