I love ACOTAR and fourth wing etc for getting adults back into fantasy.

My bookclub were mocking me (in a nice way) for my love of ahem fairy porn. Then we had a new member so did a round the table of our favourite books from childhood. Most people's favourites were fantasy! I said you loved fantasy as a kid why don't you try it again as an adult? It doesn't have to be wars and boring, it could be spicy! They were all surprised but agreed to give them a bash and are now converts 🥳

it’s like we always say: read what you like! and if it helps you rediscover something you loved as a kid then even better!! i feel that way with any book (like fourth wing) set in a boarding school/academia setting because it brings back all my enid blyton feels 🤣 if it’s academia combined with fairy porn then even better 🙌🏻

I'm hoping to finish ACOMAF before the end of the month, but I think it's safe to say I'm officially 🦇 Team Bat Boys 🦇
And to think I was initially 'unsure' about trying ACOTAR series 😅 It works for me and is a nice page turner which can be lovely after a few books where I got into a slump.

p.s. how on earth is is nearly July already?!

On a kind of related tangent (oxymoron?!) I just bought I love you x3 purely for nostalgia reasons (it’s a One Day/Talking at Night style love story and I think the FMC is about the same age is me). Almost tempted to buy some WKD Blues to drink while reading it 😏

aw man reading books set in the mid 00s (when i was a uni student) fills me with so much nostalgia. i can almost smell the sambuca shots reading it 🤣 i found the rachel incident super nostalgic for that exact reason. now i want a wkd blue, even though i was more a watermelon barcardi breezer kinda girl!

Quoting myself as the edit feature timed out. I may have just bought Throne of Glass boxset on Amazon... woops! I like the writing style of ACOTAR so I'm hoping TOG will be similar. I was going to buy the series for Kindle but I found a boxset from a 3rd party seller on Amazon for 54 quid whereas the total of Kindle versions for the series would a similar amount, so I thought oh well payday treat. But I cannot buy any more books for a while! My TBR is ridiculous now...

Pineapple was more my breezer flavour but I wouldn’t turn down a watermelon! I spotted some in a shop on holiday last week and now I wish I’d got round to buying one (a couple) for nostalgia reasons.

I loved both of these series and somehow had forgotten they existed. Thoughts and prayers they’re still in my parents loft 🫢

I can’t remember if I read Jacqueline Wilson’s The Girls series (I may have been busy reading books about horses and Sugar magazine) but tempted to get them to find out before she brings out her new book in September.

omg sugar!!! i found the series of books they brought out (i can’t remember the name of them now) when tidying during lockdown and reread them all in about a day 🤣 it’s gonna bug me that i can’t remember the titles!

i reread the girls series last year and would strongly recommend giving them a read before her new book. i’m so excited for it, i love jacqueline wilson so much. i saw her in hay-on-wye once and was too scared to go and speak to her because i thought i would cry 🥲

also i have turned a corner in fourth wing and i’m into it. would like to find a xaden in real life possibly. it really comes to life when the dragons show up 🐉

Have you seen how she revealed the cover? 🥹 I just think it was such a lovely way to do it

I loved Jacqueline Wilson growing up! I wasn't sure if I'd read The Girls series but I recognise those names so I must have read them. Tempted to read them again before the new book comes out. I wonder if they're on Kindle?

Hi everyone, only just found this thread and hoping to join in the excellent discussion! I'm pleased to say I've just finished up book #35 of the year for me, "I Hope This Finds You Well" by Natalie Sue

I give it 3.5/5

Enjoyed the storyline, the dialogue was witty and clever with a bit of humour and the characters had depth - it loses points for being a little predictable towards the end and having the fatal rushed "tying up loose ends" final few chapters

Looking for recs for what to read next!

MindyLahiri what book genres do you like reading?

I've just seen Jack Edwards talking about this book, called Fourteen Days - a v interesting concept! Each character is written by a different author, edited by Margaret Atwood.

"Includes writing from: Margaret Atwood, Sylvia Day, Emma Donoghue, Dave Eggers, Diana Gabaldon, Tess Gerritsen, John Grisham, Erica Jong, Celeste Ng, Tommy Orange, Doug Preston, R.L. Stine, Nafissa Thompson-Spires, Meg Wolitzer and many more."
