I got this as one of my audiobooks to try after seeing a few of you loving it! I also got A Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, just scrolled through the app and it came up recommended from what I’ve bought on kindle

I loved Boys Don’t Cry so much 🥹 my favourite book of last year! Heartbreaking but just beautiful, absolutely loved Finn bless him
My favourites on Audible have mostly been autobiographies as I find them easier to listen to, and I’m seriously sounding like a broken record at this point but Young Mungo, the narrator was the first fiction audio to really grip me and not lose me the whole book

I'm currently reading The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches and it's so so good. I didn't expect that.
Finn and Sebastian (This is How We Are Human) are etched into my heart.It really is heart breaking. I listened to it on audible and the narrator did a brilliant job. Little Finn will stay with me

A kindred spirit! I also really liked The Crimson Petal and the White. I know there is a short story collection that supposedly follows it that goes some way to tying up loose ends but I've never read it and haven't ever seen it in a bookshop either. Maybe a sign that it's best left unsaid.I felt exactly the same about this book. Massive mug of coffee, some biscuits and 2 hours with the house to myself

but it's about witches (obviously) and they aren't allowed to tell anybody. In the past 300 years or so the parents of the witches died just after the birth so the witches were orphaned. Mika, the protagonist, for example, was raised by different nannies and tutors in the house of another witch. She never felt like she belonged anywhere and had a lonley childhood. Now she has to teach three young witches (who shouldn't even live together, according to the "Rules", but here they are!). She doesn't tell the other witches because they would freak out. Then she learns about the real reason why so many baby witches were orphaned and a lot more. And also, of course, she starts to belong and feel loved for the first time.
it sounds like a children's book, but it's definitely for adults. There is also a bit romance (which I like to read despite my always complaining about it. But this books feels different. Maybe because of the magical stuff.)

Ah, Michel Faber feels like such a niche fan club sometimes
The collection is called The Apple but probably leaves so many questions unanswered too I do like his short stories though so give it a go if you happen to see it in a bookshop. His introduction to the stories is really interesting as a book is just a book for him. He seemed quite surprised at how personally some readers took the ending!I’m alone in the office today so I have my headphones in and am listening to “You’re the Only One I’ve Told”. Great recommendation from this thread again and so easy to read whilst I am working
